Count fruit & veggie calories

I am a bit torn on counting the calories I consume when it's pure fruit and veggies. If I were to deduct the fruit and veggie calories, there are some days I'd so better in my overall calorie counts. Do the majority of you count those calories? Would love your input on this.

Why in the world wouldn't you count them? They have calories and if not counted you could be way over your limit.0

Sure, count them.0

Of course I count them. If I am consuming it, I count it. Calories are calories.0
-
I count everything but celery.0

Why wouldn't you count them. If you do not count EVERYTHING, you are only cheating yourself. COUNT EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0

They have calories. So yes, I count them.0

you must count them...they are calories.0

Not only are they calories, but they are sugar, and protein, and fats, and fiber, and vitamins...
Of course you count them!0 -
Yup. Calories are calories.
And even fruit and veggies add up if you eat too many. I know. I've pigged out on an entire bag of apples. Really.0 -
Oh yes, I count them...I count everything I put in my mouth (including gum)! Otherwise I'm only fooling my mind, definitely not fooling my body!0
-
I count EVERYTHING!!! Fruits & veggies are great for you, but you can overeat anything. Good luck!0

This question confuses me.0

I count them! Fruit calories can add up REALLY fast...certain veggies too. Today I had 3 beet slices and apparantly that's 40 calories!? who knew! A common snack for me is 2 cups of some sort of melon and that's 100 calories give or take a few depending on melon type. These things could really mess up my calorie count if not counted.0

This question confuses me.
I think she's probably asking because Weight Watchers lets you eat fruits and veggies "free" or something like that. Or so I heard, anyway.0 -
I also do weight watchers where I don't have to track my veggies and fruit but I have been on this site. I have lost 45 lbs with weight watchers and that was without tracking any of my fruits and veggies except potatoes, corn, and avacados0

If you eat something and don't log it, you still ate it. Even if your numbers on the screen aren't red, your body knows.
Count everything.0 -
I eat a ton of veggies and I always always count them..think about it, if you consumed a banana and an avocado that almost 400 calories!! Of course, that's an extreme example, but you should count everything you put in your mouth!0

I count everything including condiments and spices. It gives me peace of mind to know I was actually within my calorie goal and not be guessing all the time. I used to do WW and used to not count those and trust me they do hinder weight loss if too much is being consumed above your calorie goal.0

They count. They count. You are better off for eating them, and they are not the same as all other calories when you compare their nutritional value to a bag of chips. But they count.
I wish they didnt.0 -
This question confuses me.
I'm not sure if it's still this way as I have never done the program...but I know people who have done Weight Watchers. And Fruit and Vegetables were "free" foods, they didn't have to count points for them because you would have to eat a lot of them to over eat your calories in points. This is because the Weight Waters point system has the people eating very few calories (so i'm told..i've never been interested in the program so have never researched it for myself), so giving fruit and veggies 0 points wasn't going to hurt results.
I'm guessing the original question is coming from this type of mentality.
It should be noted that counting WW points and counting calories are two VERY different things. again I'm not too educated on WW, but I believe it's something like 1 point=50 calories. I remember a woman I worked with who did WW wanted to calculate my point allowence with her little slider tool thingy and My daily points would be 18 points a day thats only 900 calories! Then you get your extra weekly calories. Anyway...at 900 calories a day the average person could eat their free fruit and veggies and still see results because you're probably talking a few hundred calories at the MOST a day for fruit and veggies.0 -
Absolutely count them. Remember there is alot of sugar in fruits and some veggies. If you are experiencing problems with reduction that is ususally the first place I look to see how much "sugar" I have been consuming. It ususally requires that I cut back on the fruit. Also, I don't eat fruit unless I have some protein with it, so I make it part of my meal. I don't use it as a snack food since that sugar will turn straight to fat unless you burn it off right away.
I am seeing some comments about WW and how they have "free" fruits and veg. Well, WW is not a calorie counting program. If you are doing WW I guess you should follow their program and work to achieve the success you would expect. If you are calorie counting, follow it and work to achieve the success you expect! You can't take all programs and morph them into one.0 -
Do you think that if you don't log it your body won't either? What the heck do you your totals matter if you aren't logging honestly, and I don't believe your intent is to be dishonest, but it does sorta come to that. There are other things in fruits and veggies that are important besides calories and you should be logging those, like carbs and nutrients.
Even if you don't log it, your body does.0 -

i dont count all the veggie s but i do the fruit unless i am popping in one grape or berry.0

I appreciate all of your input. I did ask this question based off of some programs considering those foods as "free." (Such as WW's.) If you peek at my diary, you can see that I DO, and HAVE BEEN logging them...and everything else! I do forget to log gum or Emergen-C's sometimes though. Smiles.
I am in no way trying to "cheat" myself. Believe me you, I have worked too hard to lost my 45 lbs to try that now. Just wanted to know other's thoughts on that theory is all. And I certainly know where you all stand on it now! Thanks for taking the time to reply! It really is much appreciated!0
