What time do you try to stop eating by?

We typically have dinner around 5:30/6pm. Than I'll normally have a snack around 7:30-8. Sometimes if I still have calories left or if I'm up late with my 3 month old I'll want to snack again around 9-9:30. I try to make the 8pm my cut off & not eat after that. Is it really bad to eat late like that? I try not to eat anything too heavy during the late times. Thanks! **I am exclusively breastfeeding so I'm adding those extra calories daily**

When I am no longer hungry and I go to bed.
Calories for the day is what matters.9 -

Same as above. The do not eat so many hours before bedtime is basically a myth IMHO. It’s calories in / calories out. Although several hours of fasting does indeed help. So as long as you are getting a decent number of hours a night in sleep and maybe not eating for a few hours after waking up, you will benefit and loose weight. As long as you are not over eating (no calorie deficit) through out the day of course.1

I stop eating after my bedtime snack, which is usually around 10-11 PM. I cannot sleep on an empty stomach so I always save some food for bedtime. I eat dinner around 6:00 so I am hungry again late evening.3

Right now I have dessert around 11pm, then most nights eat a snack at 3-5am, then breakfast at 7:30- 8am. So I guess I never really stop eating
Btw congrats! I have a 5.5 month old so I'm up a lot
I had no issues losing weight this way (currently maintaining)7 -
I stop eating at 7 PM, but that's only because it is part of my GERD (reflux) plan. Now that I am trying to maintain, I wish I could eat later to get all my calories in!5

I've been trying to stop by 6pm. I do get up really early, so dinner is early. Bed is also early lol. If I go to bed on a full stomach I am almost always pregnant in my dreams!3

I stop when I go to bed.5

For weight management it doesn't matter. I have to be careful with evening eating though so I can avoid taking medication for acid reflux.4

I do not eat after 8 o'clock. That is a very strict rule i have. Typically I don't eat after 7:30 but 8:00 is the true cutoff. It's just something that has worked for me.2

I will usually have a snack around 10:0-11:00. If I'm still hungry, or again hungry, and have the calories, I'll eat just before bed. If I ignore real hunger, I can't sleep.0

I never eat while actually asleep. Right up to then - allowing time to brush my teeth after - sure, if I feel like it. Lost 1/3 of my bodyweight, obese to healthy weight, and have stayed there for 4+ years so far since, just that way. Works fine.

I eat my last meal of the day immediately prior to brushing my teeth & going to bed. I work rotating shifts so tomorrow it'll be around 1am, when I'm on night shift it may be around 7am, on day shift it may be around 9pm...0

Bedtime. I can't stand crumbs in the sheets.1

7 pm sharp is my cutoff. I have a lifetime of night binging behind me which made this necessary. Setting up this one rule last May has been life transformative for me. The only time I pause the rule is when I'm out socially. I've learned how to be hungry at night without responding, an immensely useful skill especially since I'm often up to 2 am.8

This us why I have a crumb towel... I like to snack in bed. I stop eating when I go to sleep, never later than that, sometimes earlier.4 -

I typically stop eating when the sun is down. I don't try to, I just do. That's what I've always done even when I was morbidly obese, so no, the time you stop eating doesn't matter much out of context. It's how much you're eating that matters.4

I don't try to stop eating by any point although I'll usually have my evening meal between 6-7 and then dessert and/or hot chocolate by about 9pm as that means it has a chance not to wake me up needing the loo at some unsociable hour.0

I have a snack about 7:30 pm, and have breakfast around 7:30 am. I don’t follow intermittent fasting intentionally, it just works out that way. I’ve never been someone that wakes up and snacks in the night.2
-
I usually end all my eating by 6-7 pm and start eating again by 6-7 am. I usually plan my meals and snacks ahead so I can eat every couple hours in that 12 hour period.0

I wish I could stop eating when I'm done dinner around 5-6 but munchies claim me when I go to bed and read, around 7:30. So I always have something(from saved calories). It's just a habit, I know. But that's the time of day I have to be extra careful because I could find myself making extra trips to the kitchen...just because.0

Why do you think it would matter what time you stop eating by, for weight loss?

I usually stop eating around 7 or 8 PM, but that's mostly because I don't like the feeling of having a full stomach when I go to bed. Although there are a few times I've gotten home late and eaten late..no big deal. also eat breakfast as soon as I wake up and never had an issue losing weight, so fasting at breakfast is not necessary either.0

About half hour before I go to bed I usually have some granola type cereal with yogurt. Been doing it for 30+ years and I just can't break that habit. I can't sleep well if I am hungry and that final treat just satisfies me.2
-
I try to stop before I fall asleep, lol. If I'm snacking on the couch and realize I'm nodding off, the snacks need to go!!! I try to put them up before then 😂3

Me too. This is why my bedtime snack is something that doesn't produce crumbs. Usually I will have some yogurt and a handful of nuts. Occasionally I will have popcorn.1 -
Can’t sleep if hungry. Will wake up in the night hungry, can’t go back to sleep until I eat. (I’m 70 and second childhood is real!) I didn’t go to bed until 1 am last night because I couldn’t decide what to eat.2

I've been having my popcorn around 8:30., just started doing that after getting rainbow popcorn for Christmas and now I'm hooked!0

I mostly observe an 8 hour eating window with a 16 hour overnight fast. That's just my choice, as I find it easier to keep my calories in line, andI sleep better with an empty stomach. I grew up eating 3 meals with no snacks, and dinner was our last food for the day. I got away from that as an adult, but am working toward following that again. There are some days that I eat something after dinner. Nothing is written in stone, and I don't try to push my ideas on anyone else.0
