Gearing up for week 2! Tomorrow is my non-official weigh-in day, but I think I'm going to start weighing in daily again to keep on track. Last week was ROUGH both in terms of feeling well and motivation. I made it to the gym twice and walked nearly every day as part of my dog sitting gig, but not much else. I spent a lot of time in my car, skipped planning and prepping food which resulted in far too much fast food. I managed to not destroy my calorie intake for the day but man, my macros & sodium intake sucked. Lesson learned, though! Today I've been cooking up a storm and packing up breakfast and lunch for the week (which are the two meals I tend to either skip or plan badly resulting in eating everything in sight once out of work!) I've been gearing up for the start of my new podcast in the works, Fat Chick Slim to stay accountable, motivated, and to let other people know that they're not alone out there!
This week's goal is to stay on track!
I'm hoping you all have a fantastic week with little victories everywhere!6 -
By the time I started this I'd already given up soda. It is expensive, and it makes my chronic pain worse. I get in a ridiculous amount of fluids a day; 3-4 24 ounce glasses of water and then anywhere from 2-4 20 oz mugs of tea. But my meds give me dry mouth, so there's that too.
I'm still sore today, but I had a friend over for a birthday lunch, and I made Pork Chops Normandy and steamed baby potatoes with parsley butter (I had wild rice pilaf) and green beans and homemade bread and butter. Then there was a chocolate angelfood cake with optional black cherry sauce to go on it. She almost cried she was so happy. (sigh of happiness) I love to feed people good food. She adored my analog organizational system, and we talked about the perils and issues of moving and of living with cats and of living with people who are mentally ill, including oneself. I hadn't been able to socialize much lately, so that was just LOVELY.
And I got Boyfriend's lunches made for next week, and his lunch box has all the non-food stuff packed (wipes, napkin, towel to protect his shirt, utensils, pudding cup, etc.) so tomorrow morning I just have to shove the top container of the stack in, drop a cold pack on it, zip it up, and send him off. I like when there's less work in the morning when my brain isn't functioning. That's much easier on me.9 -
Weigh in was yesterday! I really struggled with not weighing myself everyday but have learned my lesson lol. I kept seeing the normal up and down and getting discouraged but kept with it and am so happy. Lots of walks with my kids and trying to stay on track.
Does anyone know how to accurately calculate calories burned while pushing a stroller?
March BW: 276.something lol
3/7 weigh in: 274.2
Starting weight:283
GW: 180 (then re-evaluate)8 -
67 years old, Height: 5'6"
SW: 266 lbs
3/1: 261.8 lbs
3/8: 260.6
GW: Onderland 1st, maintain for a few weeks then 150 llbs.
March Goal get to 255
My March Weekly Goals are:
1. Continue to go to Aquafit 3 times a week
2. Continue to Improve my weekday breakfasts
3. Log weight, food and exercise
4. Get into the mid 250s this means my highs and lows get and stay below 260
5. Make progress adding in exercise on days I don’t go to aquafit
6. Make healthy foods at home
7. Get enough sleep and improve water intake
8. Check out this thread more often
Hello I just post my weight when I have made some progress otherwise I would be up and down and up and down. I was up on Friday, my birthday. We went and had BBQ for dinner. I was also taken out for lunch, a salad. We went for gelato after dinner since they didn't have bread pudding at the BBQ place. Last night my husband had to go and find some bread pudding and put candles on it.
I said I just wanted some earrings that are blue but instead I got kittens. Remember we lost our cat a while a go. My daughter wanted a bonded pair so we got two kittens from the same litter. They are almost twins. These will definitely be house cats. I have always had only one cat and it was always indoor/outdoor but it isn't safe anymore with coyotes coming into the cities.
Yesterday we just had our usual weekend breakfast and left over BBQ. I wasn't hungry enough for another meal so the bread pudding was dinner. So now with my birthday weekend over with I can get back to my usual eating routine.
1. We are continuing to go to aquafit since the Y is not crowded with many here (Seattle) avoiding it.
2. I am making progress with having Grande Lattes only 2 days a week and eating healthier breakfasts more mornings.
3. I am doing well with logging.
4. Making progress with weight.
5. Not really getting more exercise yet this month
6. We are doing this except for birthday meal
7. I am trying and I sleep in at least one morning on the weekend
8. I wasn't good at checking in here this week between birthday and kittens.
I probably won't check all posts I missed but will spend some time now trying to catch up somewhat.11 -
I decided on Friday to retake the 500 squat challenge with perfect form, since the times I did it before I definitely did more ducking than squatting for the last couple hundred.
I made it to 300 and then got dizzy and had to stop. Still, pretty good. My legs sure hurt. XD9 -
@chelleedub that is my approach too to focus on keeping the trend downward. I just post weight when I have made progress.
Too many people were having a bad week last week.
@BrownSugar I am glad you have such a supportive mate
@bluffgirl67 I plan to maintain for a few weeks when I get to onderland. I will robably do that when I lose 10% of my starting weight if I stall. It isn’t easy to maintain. You are doing great.
@fitchick37 hope your husband is better soon.
@speyerj I am glad the PT is helping and things are going well despite work stress. My daughter is delightful to have around too.
@HurleyHurley glad you are feeling better and find a healthy way to lose the next pounds.
@RavenStCloud hope you get through this safely. We are having to be careful here in Seattle to some extent as well. They have cancelled meetings and my daughter’s classes are all online at college. It is hard to find supplies here too. My husband can work somewhat at home but I can’t except for email. I am thinking of asking to do email at home in the morning and coming in late so I can get enough sleep since I am in a high risk age group. I do not tend to get sick if I get enough sleep. My son calls and gives us lots of advice. He is very sweetly worried about us being in the city in the USA with the most deaths.
@leanneellison1979 glad things are working
@lbostic89 that is also my son’s birthday. I was up on my birthday but down two days after.
@Missy1364 Hope March goes well too.
@Danielle good job prepping for the week.

@KeriA and @RavenStCloud i hope you manage to keep you and your families safe. Its so worrying now.5

I just read this in one of the MFP articles:
“In other words, successful weight loss requires a long-term commitment. “Weight loss is so challenging because people want quick fixes and aren’t ready to stick to something long enough to see results,” says Chelsea Cross, RD. Instead, aiming for consistency over perfection can help you stay motivated. “If you find that you didn’t hit your calorie goal one day or were too busy to work out, instead of getting frustrated and giving up, just get back on track the next day,” says Cross. This mindset sets you up for long-term success. “Oftentimes, people lose sight of the simplicity of weight loss and get lost in all of the new fad diets … and that can be a roadblock to weight loss because they end up trying something that’s not sustainable, fall away from it and then regain weight and get frustrated,” says Cross.
Rather than going on a restrictive diet, Cross suggests setting realistic goals and eating balanced meals that incorporate all of the food groups, including carbohydrates, fat and fiber, to help reduce cravings and make weight loss sustainable long-term. Think of it as a lifestyle change, not a diet.”

I’ve been able to keep up with the reading, but haven’t been able to respond. Everyone seems to have had a crazy first week of March. I’m inexplicably not myself either, I’m wondering if it’s just the collective consciousness of the whole corona virus issue.
What a weekend! I got a lot accomplished! Yesterday I got my hair cut. It was the first time my hairdresser had seen me since November, so she was quite amazed at how different I looked. Then in the afternoon, I had a mani/pedi session with a friend, along with a bit of a belated birthday celebration – hers, not mine.
Then my mother was up from the shore today and she stopped by my place for a few hours.
I managed to get out to run yesterday and I did my long walk/run today. Like @speyerj, I ran a bit more than 5.5 miles yesterday, 0.5 miles more than I ran last week. The amazing thing is that I did it before my hair appointment, I normally take my sweet time on the weekends. Today’s long walk/run was somewhere between 9.5 and 9.75 miles. I finished in 1 hour, 55 minutes.
Height: 5' 6"
SW (09/08/2019): 239.2 lbs
March SW (3/1/20): 179.4 lbs
3/8/2020: 180.2 lbs
March GW: 173 lbs
GW: 150 lbs (then reconsider)
My goals for March are:- Cardio for 45-60 min, 5-6 times a week, 2-3 of the sessions Couch-to-10K workouts, with a long run on the weekend. Cross training on the off-days – followed the plan this week!
- Increase walking distance to 10 miles for one workout a week – getting there!
- Core exercises at least 3 times a week. Also need to add other weight training for legs, upper body. – I did add exercises this week. My core workout alone was taking a bit of time, so I think I need to take a look at what I’m doing and start to mix it up a bit.
- Continue to drink water – I’m not looking to increase, I’m already at more than 150 ounces a day! - Done. If nothing else, I am the water drinking champ!
- Take better care of my skin in hopes it will start to regain its shape. Hoping faithfulness here will be rewarded in the long run. – still stuck in a rut with NOT doing this consistently.
I would have expected to be the same weight I was last week, so being up a bit this week isn’t a huge surprise. There were a lot of factors this week that might explain – I started cross-training this week and I’m still trying to level out on the bike so I can start workouts that will challenge me. I did better later in the week – my legs were definitely sore, but it could also have been from the squats I added this past week, too, and I really had some later nights this week. I’m normally a bit tired on Mondays and Tuesdays from my weekends, but this week it felt like it was all week.
I think I may be down tomorrow, we’ll see.
Good thing that happened this week: I passed the first of my certification exams at work!
Looking forward to this week, despite having jury duty on Monday and Tuesday.
I hope everyone has a great week planned! Keep washing your hands and, even more importantly, keep your hands away from your face! That last part is way harder than you think.

Weekly Weigh-In
So normally I weigh on Monday mornings. I knew I had two events this weekend which would have higher calorie food--a birthday party and a scout celebration, so I did weigh in on Saturday morning. However, I also weighed this morning, and was only up a tad from Saturday, so I'm still taking today's weight as my "official" weight.
SW(1/6/20): 260.4
Ending Jan: 244.8 (-15.6)
Ending Feb: 236.8 (-23.6)
CW: 3/9: 235.7 (-24.7)
So, I didn't make my February goal weight (234.8), so I'm working hard to try and make this months goal weight (227.3)...hoping it happens, but still happy with my progress. My weight on Saturday was 235.3, so technically I hit 25 pounds down for a day! But...definitely want to hit that this week. If I can lose 1.3 I'll hit 26 pounds down which is 10% of my starting weight!
I'm a teacher so we are all hoping to make it through this week unscathed...time change...full moon...Friday the 13th!!! It's like a bad trifecta! Here's hoping for a good week!9 -
Ive just ordered a android tablet and a fitness tracker watch. I think this will help me loads and encourage me to walk more. Going on MFP on my laptop is a hassle at times.10
-
I'm in the middle of nowhere for classes today and tomorrow so I bought meal replacement shakes. My only other options are a couple fast food places and I don't wanna drive on icy highways for that!
As I remember, the shakes are tasty and yet deeply unsatisfying. I'm still hungry. But it's better than having nothing. I shouldn't be dying by dinnertime like if I skipped lunch completely.
This class is so boring. Imagine being like, a professional driver with a decade experience and then taking a driving 101 class where they explain in detail what a steering wheel is and what it's for. That's what this is right now for me.10 -
@bluffgirl67 Thank you for the kind words.
@lbostic89lbostic89 I'ms orry for your loss. I also had a family suicide recently. You're not alone.
@KeriA Thanks, I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that, ha ha!
@Terytha Maybe you could also pair a boiled egg, nuts/seeds or string cheese, plus a piece fruit with it? If you ever have to travel again and you have a chance to plan ahead, maybe you can possibly find a different shake with more protein? I find it helps to read review articles and then search online to see where the ones I want to try are sold. Personally, I'm a fan of Orgain's 26 gram GrassFed Protein Shake if you're lifting, or something plant based with 20g otherwise.
It feels like the Ides of March came early for this group! But I'm glad we all had each other for support.
I think my slowed weight loss may have been due to "that time of the month," because I stepped on the scale this morning and my weight had dropped overnight from 168.8, where it had been holding steady, to 167. So that's nice.
I don't know if most of you are already aware of this (probably so), but I just read that for those of us who typically indulge on the American weekend (Friday - Sunday), we weigh the most on Sunday and the least on Friday, and therefore, our most accurate weight is on Wednesday. Food for thought. So I guess I'll punch in my weight on Wednesday, which is what I typically do ... when I like the number. Hehehe.4 -
Hi all, I am new here! I am the heaviest I have ever been at 220. I am determined to lose at least 50 lbs. Today is day 1. I am a 44 year old mom and wife. Looking for friends and support.12
-
@chelleedub I don't have access to a fridge or any storage so I can only bring things I can fit in my purse that don't need to be cold. So eggs and fruit are a no-go. No nuts either, I hate them. So gross.
I've got the high protein Boost shakes, 27 grams of protein per shake. But liquids are not filling to me regardless.
Anyways it's only today and tomorrow, I'll survive.1 -
Hey everyone!
It’s been awhile... feels like forever 😔
@lbostic89 I’m so sorry for your loss. ❤️I hope your cousin is finding comfort in her family and friends. Make sure to do wellness checks on her as often as you can
@Terytha lol @ steering wheel instructions 🤣. That sounds like “beat your head against a wall awful”. At least the classes are only for 2 days. Is fruit or salads an option? I know most fast food places at least sell salads these days, or are you trying to avoid the temptation of going in at all? That would probably my biggest problem... side bar: my heart broke when you said eww to fruit lol
@losin_it_focused welcome to the group and congrats on day 1. One decision to change is all it takes. You’ve found a great group of supportive women with lots of experience and knowledge. You can lurk like I did for a few days or jump right in 😊
@takera16 sorry to hear you’ve been having a difficult time. It seems like March has beat the hell out of all of us and we’re not even half way through it. Glad to see you’re focusing on your health and jumping back in.2 -
@kathrynegrady I love fruit! It's nuts that I hate. Mom was deadly allergic so I never tried any until I was well into adulthood, and I just don't like any of them.
I have nowhere to put fruit, is the problem.
Fast food salads are blech. I'd rather just cope with shakes.0 -
I get so wrapped up in the conversations, I forget to list my stats lol.
SW: 240
CW: 229.8
3/1: 231.9
3/7: 229.8
Yeeaaaa so I haven’t lived up to most of my goals so I’m going to change them slightly. I find myself walking a lot more than I’m doing any yoga so:
💚Do at least 30 minutes of exercise 3 days/week
💚Drink 64-80 ounces of water/day
💚Meditate for at least 5 minutes/day
I’ve been doing really well tracking my food intake, but I’m realizing that I’m going waaaaay over my sodium. There’s salt in EVERYTHING. Damn even some of the fruit has sodium. No wonder I have high blood pressure 😤. I’m definitely paying more attention to my salt intake, and that coupled with upping my water intake should help a lot.8 -
@Terytha ooooh... gotcha. I read too fast lol. It’s cool... nuts have a lot of fat in them anyway. Can’t really get much bang for your buck. Well, at the very least, here’s to hoping your classes fly by lol3

I'm BACK! I've missed you all! If I didn't friend you and you'd like to be my friend feel free!
AND I'VE READ ALL YOUR POSTS AND YOU'RE ALL GREAT.

@lbostic My heart goes out to your cousin and family
@WynterDreaming definitely a good problem to have but it can get expensive real fast. I've been buying new clothes recently because I am tired of everything in my closet. I thought about how I would lose weight and the clothes won't be useful but I don't want to wait until then to feel good about myself and what I'm wearing.
@mmdeveau In this last week I've discovered that my hands LOVE my face. Still trying to be mindful but its so unnatural for me
@kathrynegrady nice loss!
I had a great weekend, lots of family time. I did not end up going to the gym this weekend because I had family over to watch a basketball game and they stayed longer than I anticipated but I wouldn't change a thing, I love spending time with my family as much as possible. My pozole was delicious, I ate a reasonable amount but didn't over eat. So I did 3.5 days of exercise since I jogged for 15 min Saturday morning. Not the 4 I hoped for but not 0. Something about goals to keep in mind is you don't have to meet them the first time you try. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt and that's ok. I'm very happy with how my exercise goal went. The plan this week is to go Tues/Wed/Fr/Sun.6 -
@sharpdust I’m glad you enjoyed family time. And your right... nothing compares to spending time with the people you love. I can imagine that the pozole was great... my aunts and uncles were the same way with using all the parts of the pig (southern recipes from back when all they could afford were all the discarded parts nobody else wanted) and the house would always smell AMAZING... at least everything except chitterlings 🤢🤣... I didn’t get the yoga in but I definitely walked a few miles everyday (today I walked just under 5) so I’m not too disappointed in myself. Just determined to try a little harder this week.
In other news... I just got the weirdest craving. Haven’t had bread in a few weeks and I’m craving a cheese sandwich. No meat. Just bread, mayo, and cheese. All the things I’ve cut out of my life 😒. I won’t give in but, what have been some of ya’ll weirdest cravings since starting your healthy lifestyle??? I know I’m not the only one lolol5 -
I’m converting everything from kg to pounds, let’s hope this makes sense!
SW: 220
CW: 220

I suppose my goal for this month is to get 218, which is down to double digits in KG. But mainly to just get started!

Came down with the flu last week. Mostly over it now but can't shake this terrible cough and shortness of breath, so I'm limiting cardio to walking for now. I've also but IF on hold for the week.
SW: 269 lbs (April 2018)
3/1: 238.5 lbs
3/8: 235 lbs

March GW: 230 lbs
UGW: ~165 lbs

Goals for March
1. Intermittent fasting 16:8 for 6+ days weekly Temporarily on hold
2. Exercise 3x weekly
3. Continue daily MFP logging
4. Weigh myself and log it every week no matter what
5. Post in this thread every week
6. Resume macro goals of 35% carbs, 35% fat, 30% protein6 -
Thank you all for thinking of my family...services tomorrow and Wednesday here in Virginia. My job happens to be quite close to where services will be so they have agreed to let me take a late lunch and attend; this was quite a concern to me especially since I have been there less than a month. The managers highly value and respect family time and they also respect my wishes to attend despite him not being a close relative (thank goodness for small towns and values.)9

Hello everyone, happy (?) Monday! I had a busy weekend where I was so active. Everything kind of hurts today from my workout yesterday. Some kind of crazy treadmill/strength combo workout that focused on lower body. Then I rode my horse in the hills and made myself get off and walk up all the steep hills- there are a lot of them. My legs ache today and now I'm traveling for work so I'm chilling in a hotel and was pretty lazy today. I'm tired and I'm missing my family
My big hope is to get up early and hit the hotel gym, but honestly I have a really hard time with Daylight Savings Time. It's the worst! I'm jealous of anyone who doesn't have to deal with time changes. All day long it seemed everyone at my job was cranky, and I swear it's because everyone suddenly had to get up an hour early.
I am plugging away on making good choices and logging my food and exercising at least every other day. The scale hasn't budged a bit, which is frustrating. I think that my body is so screwed up from all these years of weight issues and calorie counting (losing 30 lbs, gaining 40 lbs, losing 20 lbs, gaining 30 more, and so on and so on). With each subsequent time I've tried to lose weight, it has gotten harder. I most recently lost 20 lbs two years ago, then stopped paying attention and it all came back. I keep wondering if that was my last chance, like now my body is just totally fed up with me and just won't cough up the weight anymore.
And yes, I know that is probably ridiculous.
I'm sorry to read of some of these rough patches in March. I agree it's been weird so far! @mmdeveau I think you are on to something about the collective consciousness of the coronavirus thing causing everyone to feel anxious. I'm trying to be optimistic and just do what I'm supposed to do, but it's definitely hard to pretend everything is normal.
@RavenStCloud if I were you I'd just stay in the apartment too! It's a good sign the school is open again, right? I hope the outbreak fizzles soon in your area.
@lbostic89 my heart goes out to your cousin and her family. A dear friend of mine's husband also took his own life a few months ago and I know how traumatic and awful it is. I'm glad your job will allow you to take time to attend the services.
@CupcakeCrusoe you did it! Way to follow through on your promise to us. I'm glad you picked up the meds. Gold star for taking care of yourself. Isn't it funny how sometimes things like that just get pushed to the backburner?
@speyerj I loved reading your post- how wonderful that life is so full of joy for you right now. And great job on that long run! That must feel good.10 -
I overworked myself over the last few days, and now I am paying for it. Normally on Tuesdays and Thursdays I drive Boyfriend to work, do the household errands, and then pick him up in the evenings. However, this morning I told him to just take the car. I'm much too stiff and sore to want to drive anywhere. So I am going to have a physical rest day and do yoga at home, eat within my calories, and generally read and game and there might be a nap in there, this afternoon.6
-
@sharpdust I think you're doing great with exercise. Life gets in the way sometimes, and that's okay.
@kathrynegrady meh, I don't really have cravings, because when I crave something, I find a way to fit it in. Last night I ate three mini kit kat lemon bars, 210 calories for the three of them, and, okay, I wanted more candy, because yes always, but eating a little took the power out of the craving.
@northropeandmoore welcome! this is a good group.
@jguldi11 Feel better and just take care of yourself. The flu hangs around for way longer than you'd think.
@lbostic89 you and your family have been in my thoughts recently. I'm glad your employer is so understanding. Take care of yourself today.
@shorepine I definitely do push things I need to the backburner- especially exercise. Being here on this thread has helped me stay accountable for what I do vs what I can find around the house that needs doing. Keep chugging away. The weight will come off if you're in a deficit. You may have to play with specifics, but it's going to work.
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 Take care! Sorry you're feeling poorly.
I'm baaack! And back on bp meds, which means water weight reduction! Which I'm honestly pretty okay with. If I have to take a bp med, might as well have a vanity side effect.
I've had trouble motivating myself to go running recently, due to the crazy shift, but now it's over, so no more excuses! Tonight's dinner will be easy to put together, easy to clean up (chicken sausage with feta and spinach, over spring mix and strawberries with some balsalmic dressing), so no excuses not to do my running today. Plus I'm only 6 miles from Crickhollow in my Bag End to Rivendell virtual running. Nerd alert.
I left my food scale at work yesterday, so I had to guesstimate my dinner portions last night. not going to do that again. I think it'll be worth it to just break my no-buying-new rule to buy a food scale for work. I haven't been able to find one at thrift shops.
It's Tuesday, just another day to do good work! Let's kick it!4
