Just summarizing what 70% of the comments will be 😁
😂😂😂 I'm glad to see someone with humor in this app. Too many serious nut jobs here lol
Whaaat! People are great here
Not in my experience but it gets better overtime2 -
The only concrete way it’s affected me is they cancelled high school basketball state tournament. I don’t have anyone playing, I’m just a fan and would have gone to some games.
Emotionally, this is the first time I’ve been old enough and my health is questionable enough that I’m worried about ME and not some older relative or baby or small child.5 -
Everything in public is closed and eventually much else. Strange to drive through the big city on a Friday night without any life in the city. For myself, it has the effect that the kids a home. Then in a week, Corona has 2 more on conscience Otherwise, we can not train in the fitness center either. But what the heck, can't we buy the t-shirt on the other side ??1

It’ll be interesting to see this thread change over time as more people are affected. It’s like a time capsule journal thing5

A few schools have closed where I am, a few big events as well (I'm down in southern AZ as well). I haven't been out in a few days, as I and one of my adult kids are both in the 'higher risk' category and, since we don't work outside the home, decided to just get 2-4 weeks of stuff and hunker down.
So I haven't seen what the shelves are like, although even a week ago, you could start seeing less quantity of some items on the shelves (like tomatoes - last week Walmart was running out of tomatoes and oiling the outsides of the tomatoes they had left, to keep them fresh longer).
I'm worried for my family. My brother works in a restaurant. My favorite aunt is in a nursing home (in CA), as well as lots of other family. My dad just got over pneumonia this winter, and isn't bothering with changing anything he's doing. My 21 year old kid has half a dozen diseases, and I'm really scared for her.
I am trying to garden more this year, with the expectation that I might really be thankful for that, if things got REALLY bad. And if they don't? I have fun gardening, anyway.
I look at Italy and what has happened there, with the 2nd ranked healthcare system out of 191 countries (when WHO ranked them). And I look at the USA, with the 37th, literally the lowest of all industrialized nations. And I think that what's happening in Italy is not as unlikely to happen in the USA as I would hope.
I worry about all the people who are going to be REALLY struggling, as their jobs and income are gone.
So...there is a lot of worry, and fear. Not panic, but especially after seeing the way our gov't has responded to this, I'm was not feeling hopeful.
But then today, I started getting emails from local businesses. My power company, my bank, etc... And THEY are all trying to help. Telling me what they are doing to try and protect employees, suggestions for ways to use their services that won't put me or their employees at greater risk, giving encouraging messages of trying to get through this together.
And...it reminded me that one of the things that's affecting me is a real feeling of community, too. Yeah, there's panicked buying by some. Some folks are honestly awful. But there's also people voluntarily giving up things they like to do, or want to do, just to protect others in their community, even if it has to be instigated by local people rather than at a national level. And that's actually been a nice reminder of some of the awesome things about humanity too...which I really, really needed today!

You mean aside from inconveniencing literally every tiny little aspect of my life, and annoying me to the max?
Absolutely nothing.
This whole thing is asinine. Schools statewide (Wisconsin) closed for 3 weeks? Daycares are next? Then what, parents are forced to stay home from work and the entire economy collapses?
Not to mention, all of the sheep that are following the crowd and panic buying. The rest of us rational people would like to buy non perishable food and wipe our butts, too, thanks.
Awesome.
It's all being blown way out of proportion, in my opinion.5 -
We are taking advantage of schools being cancelled and us having to telework and we renting a house at the beach for the week after next. So I’ll hopefully be working beachside! When life gives you lemons make some vodka tonics on the beach.7
-
Midolmel1971- Oh the beach sounds beautiful for a working environment! Have fun at the beach you deserve it! I’m going to dream about the beach now.0

I don't know if it's being blown out of proportion or not.
The fatality rate is rather low....... but it's pretty damn high if you or a loved one is the fatality.
In our state, we have had 9 confirmed cases and zero deaths. Not exactly cause to panic.
At this point, we don't know how wide spread this thing really is & yeah, the economy has taken a gut punch.
Will the economy recover? It always does, although this will have an affect on consumerism for a very long time to come.
To the point of folks stockpiling goods, I agree. I went to Costco just to buy coffee & the way people were acting was insane.6 -

I didn't even need to buy anything.
I just went to 'hit on' all of the panicked housewives.
i'm sure they were comforted by your concern3 -
Was given some work equipment to take home, just in case I'm needed to work at home instead of in the office.4

I wasn't too worried about it but I'm starting to be. There are more and more cases where I live, they are all from people who traveled. Alot of people won't die from it but for people like me with cancer and a very low immune system it kind of freaks me out a little.18 -
We are shutting ourselves up at home right now. All the schools in our state are shut down for the next 3 weeks, and my husband can work from home, thankfully. 2 of my 3 kids are sick with what I suspect is very possibly Covid 19, but not severely affected enough for us to go to ER. Hopefully we can just ride it out. So far they have only 12 confirmed cases in my state, but my gut feeling is that many, many people have already had this virus (or have it right now) and just haven't been severely sick enough to get tested. We have basically been told over and over that even if you think you have it, you aren't going to be tested unless you start having breathing issues, so just stay at home. Which I get, since they don't have enough tests available and we don't want to clog up ERs anyway. But seems really inefficient at actually tracking the disease spread.5

Thankfully it hasn't really. I make a point to stay the *kitten* away from the type of people who panic buy toilet paper in response to a respiratory virus.
My kid has a 3 week long March break, half of which she'll spend at her dads. The rest of it we have flexible schedules so it's no big deal.
We hunt, fish and grow a lot of our food and I usually grocery shop for the rest once per month, which was done before people started losing their minds.
I work in healthcare so life is continuing as normal for me.3 -
March 14th: The panic buying continues. Most cases in our state that have been tested have come back negative, but the government and military in the area has already ramped up its efforts at "combating" the illness.
Schools haven't closed (yet), but there is no toilet paper or hand sanitizer to be found, our open air events are being heavily monitored with disinfectants and sanitizer. DoD has officially sent out a memorandum restricting travel for anything non-essential. It applies to both the active duty and their dependents.
I'm steadfastly in camp "be prepared, but not crazy". I did not panic buy any supplies, but we have enough through regular purchases to get by for a few weeks. That's the nice bit about living in a hurricane state; you're already somewhat prepared (if you're smart about it).
I continue to monitor the process as it happens.3 -
All I know that in addition to TP, people in my town are apparently hoarding bananas. I’ve been to 4 stores looking for them and they are wiped out and it’s annoying. People need to calm down.3

I won't lie: I bought one bunch Thursday when I went shopping because mmmm, bananas. But there were plenty when I was there.
Tortillas and bread are gone now in addition to hand sanitizer, counter disinfectants and toilet paper.2 -
Bananas 🍌- Some folks freeze them use them in protein shakes to bannana nut breads. Guess that’s what they want to live off if for the next year. Hubby said someone had a cart 🛒 full lol 😂 of Baking mix to nuts probably got bananas 🍌 next.0
