I am doing this 3 day apple diet for the long weekend and I am hoping to get good results! I just started this morning and I am planning on eating an apple whenever I get hungry. I have researched about it and even youtubed it and I have heard nothing but great results. I have been eating heavy foods/way too many starches the past week and I need to get back on track and I thought this may be a great way to help my digestive system. What do you think? Anybody wanna do it with me? haha!

You're not going to be getting nearly enough calories if you do that. Apples are only 80-110 calories each. I think it's a really stupid idea.11

I've never heard of it. You need to be careful whenever you eliminate a food group (or several food groups) from your diet entirely. Because it is only three days, I don't think you will do yourself any harm, and apples are good for you. Just pay attention to how you are feeling so you know if you need to add something more to your food intake. And don't forget your water! Let me know how it goes.... maybe I'll give it a try!6

I couldn't agree with you more! It is only 3 days so I don't think it would be bad for me. And I will be drinking plenty of water!! I would love to let you know how it goes.12 -
I agree with Lisa. This is not healthy at all.6

Is this it? If so, sounds like it is meant for cleansing your digestive tract, right? I have heard of much worse ways! I think I may give it a try after all...
Prepare for your fast by eating lightly the day prior to starting. Avoid the temptation to eat a big "last supper" the night before. Instead, have a green salad to brush your system clear and prepare your body.
2
Eat nothing but organic apples, red or yellow, for three full days. Drink plenty of water or apple juice as well.
3
Take two tablespoons of olive oil on the fourth day to aid in digestion and facilitate your movements following the fast.
4
Begin breaking the fast on the fourth day by drinking orange juice in the morning and eating a light meal of fruits and vegetables in the afternoon. By dinner you should be ready to add some light grains to your diet.
5
Eat regularly on the fifth day and return to a normal, healthy diet, and regular exercise schedule.
6
Repeat this cleansing diet once a month for two to three months to clear your entire alimentary canal, liver, kidneys and your system in general.

Yes! This is it. I have had some digestive problems lately and I thought it would be something good to try because I do love apples. haha. I really dont think it would be unhealthy for my body because it is just 3 days. What do you think? you should try it with me!12 -

do you think fasting is unhealthy? The is a cleanse. It is only 3 days long so there is no way that it could be bad for your body.13 -
I'd recommend you eat other healthy foods that aren't so high in fructose along with the apple.
Maybe brocolli, some lean meat like chicken breast.
Don't take it past 3 days and you should be ok...3 -
Dint think it is a bad idea at all, I would be interested to hear how you get on and now many apples you eat in a day.
If you go to a website called 30bananasaday you will find lots of forums, these are people who follow a raw vegan Diet. There is lots of talk of going to banana island where they just eat bananas for sometimes a week or more. People go to other islands so yu may find some support there for your 3 day trip to apple island
Good,luck11 -

Yes, thats true, you would need a lot of apples to get in enough calories , and apples take longer to eat than bananas so there would be a lot of munching, prob get jaw ache eating 2000 cal of apples a day!0

I would be more interested in hearing from you again in six months when you have piled all the weight back on because you are not changing your eating habits just crash dieting.12

I think everyone is misunderstanding this as a diet. It is a 3 day cleansing fast. The intention is not to lose weight, but rather to clease your body of built up toxins. A friend of mine recently had a physician put her son on a cleanse that consisted of him taking Muralax and Dulcolax (alternately) every two hours all weekend, and having only clear liquids to eat and drink. I think this cleanse sounds much easier on your system than that!
I have a disgestive disorder, diverticulosis, that causes a lot of pain and very irregular abdominal issues. An occasional cleasing does wonders to get me back on track when I am having problems. I don't use it as a means of weight loss (if that were the case, I wouldn't be 30 lbs overweight), but as a way of cleaning my intestines out.
There are also several religions that believe in fasting as a means of clearing your mind and body of unhealthy things. A fast is not the same thing as starving yourself. It is a short term (as little as a day, as long as a week - although I wouldn't recommend that) method of cleansing your system - not a diet! It should never be used as a method of weight loss.14 -
People need to stop being so hostile. It's a detox. Yeah, she mislabeled it, but if you read her later posts, she verifies that she is doing it for digestive reasons. Detoxes are not bad for you. You can go up to 10 days, assuming you ease yourself into it, and ease yourself out without doing any serious harm. You can actually go for longer, but it's highly recommended to consult your doctor beforehand if that's what you want.
I do one every couple of months. I have a lot of chronic pain problems, and after awhile medications stop working because they built up. Detoxes help clean those out, so a normal dosing of advil works fine for me again. It works the same for all toxins. I know a lot of people who have had success with quitting smoking after a detox as well.
It's a safer and more natural way them buying colon cleansers or detox pills at a health food store.
Personally I do the raw fruit and veggie one, I can't stand eating the same foods all the time. Make sure to keep it easy, DON'T EXERCISE OR EXERT YOURSELF. Very important. During detoxing/fasting you are not going to be getting a lot of calories. You can do damage if you try running a mile, strength training, etc etc. Do it on lazy days. Know that for for the first day/two you may become irritable, or have strange bowel movements. It's the toxins working their way out.19 -
IMO it doesn't have to be apples... it could be anything. Beachbody.com has a "3 day cleanse" using Shakeology. 3 shakes a day for 3 days. Shakes are 140 or 150 cals per meal. I'd recommend that over an apple cleanse. At least that way it's more distributed among the nutritional groups. Just my opinion.8

I don't think it will hurt you but it just sounds like something that someone made up off the top of their head without any real evidence or reason for any of the steps. Seems like there could be a better way.3

haha its not diet...its a cleanse. And I eat very healthy and honestly I weigh 130 and I am 6 ft tall. I seriously doubt that it would be a problem if I gained a little weight6 -
Not sure how I double posted...sorry folks.0

If your minimum a day for calories is 1200- that's about what....10-12 apples? And add a little apple juice (about 110 calories in an 8 oz glass) and you're getting quite a few calories. If you eat 2-3 apples every few hours- you're right on track. Sometimes fasts/cleanses/detoxes/whatever you want to call them help purge your urge to shove whatever in your mouth. They help you get your head and digestive system straight. Looking at what I eat on some days, I'd say I could do a lot worse than 10-12 apples. Fiber, natural sugars & gentle on the digestive track. It's clear you know it's not a long-term strategy - it's a system 'break'. I say, Go for it and see how it feels.2

It would probably be a good thing if you gained a little weight.... a BMI of 17.6 is underweight and it would be dangerous to go lower at your height.4 -

So if you are 130lbs at 6 foot, and eat healthily and would like to put weight ON, why are you doing it!?7 -
Maybe walk around in cycle helmet so you don't hurt your head if you faint ;-) Seriously, that's going to be pretty low cals, I'd be cranky and horrible - make sure you eat if you start feeling ropey.1

I don't see why so many people are being hard on you about this. I did a fast about 7 months ago that my DOCTOR, yes someone who actually has a medical degree, recommended. It was only for 5 days, but it worked wonders for my digestive system. I did a water fast, which I would not recommend doing without medical approval/supervision. I did lose 15lbs during the fast, and have lost even more weight since then. But, I was already exercising and had changed over to a vegetarian lifestyle. For 4 months after I stopped eating meat, I kept having stomach problems and that is when my doctor recommended the fast. My body really needed that cleanse. The most important thing is how you break the fast. I suggest you talk to your doctor before you start.8

I really didn't know people were so against fasting. Thanks for the advice and sharing your story with me. I always like to hear about different experiences and reasons for fasting.1 -
The liver, the body's key detoxifying organ, actually does a terrific job of cleansing the body all on its own. A healthy liver processes most of the things we throw at it, sorting out compounds and chemicals, and sending unwanted stuff to our intestines to expel as stool, or to our kidneys to excrete as urine.
So do it if you feel like doing it, but personally I think it is unnecessary.7 -
Hmm.. yeah listen to your body. I would be rubbish, and very cranky.
Too much fruit can have an adverse affect too on your digestive system (if you know what I mean.. huh hmmm)... AND not to mention the fruity sugars (which are the "good sugars") - will rot your teeth. So I wouldn't do it for long.
Errr... and bad breath... if you lose a friend or two over the weekend, you'll know why !?! Heehee...
Good luck x0 -
