Just Give Me 10 Days ~ Round 113

@kecward78 - I was interested in this too as was one of my neighbours I was talking across to yesterday. Boxing day I started with a 24 hour "bug", on comparing notes we both had a very high temperature, but felt tremdesly freezing cold, extremely fatigued & had no desire to eat whatsoever (which is not me!!). After 24 hours started to feel a bit better. Both of us wonder if we had contracted a mild version of the virus!! Who knows?
Back in late December (Christmas, actually) I got suddenly sick out of nowhere. Thought it was the beginning of a sinus infection (which I never had until I started working at that place and had 5 in one year). Went away and suddenly had pneumonia (first tested for the flu but it came back negative). Monday woke up face sore (like sinus infection) and by Thursday they were debating whether to hospitalize me with pneumonia. They gave me 3 meds and sent me home on strict quarantine for 4 days. Meds helped and by New Years, I was back up and functional. Took until mid-January until my lungs started feeling better, but that's just the case with that severe of pneumonia. Said it could be 6 weeks or 6 months to feel 100% again, glad it was on the faster end. I've been wondering (as I heard the reports of November cases in China) if I had a very early strain of it.3 -

@dawnbgethealthy - Maybe it's the weather, lol. I'm also in S.E. BC and even though I'm doing the same as always suddenly I seem to be going up a lb. a day.
Thanks : - )
Nice to see someone else in the SE B.C. area : - )
For sure those 2 rainy days when I have so much to do in the yard derailed me. It definitely felt like water retention. Have to squish that out somehow lol.2 -
@kecward78 I have read a couple of different articles that said basically the same thing although one said the first case was diagnosed in Wuhan on November 17 and the second article said mid-October. My husband was sure he had “flu” and was tested but that was negative. At that point we hadn’t heard anything about COVID. We wonder if he had it. He felt bad enough that he used his nebulizer early without me nagging him about it.4

05/07 187.2 Not what I was looking for. Eating well, under calories, but I have added strength and I’m eating some different foods at breakfast. Will wait this out for awhile but hope to find losses soon.
05/08 187.0 Guess I’m basically on another plateau. Doing habits “right” but I’m going to have to wait for results.
05/09 186.8 I’ve been looking for a bigger drop, but if I knew I would lose 0.2 everyday for the next few weeks I’d be happy.

Amazing how taste changes when you avoid that garbage. Also bloated and my shorts are tight when they were loose a couple of days ago.

@kecward78 We have the same issue. My DH went to India for 2 weeks in late Nov/Early Dec. Got sick (always does) with a fever, aches, slight cough. Took some antibiotics the doc gave him to take with him. He came home and proceeded to have the dry cough for about 3 weeks. Same deal with the guy that he traveled with. I am having him go get the Cellex antibody test next week as we are curious. I have doctor friends that said they saw Covid symptoms circulating in fall that tested negative for Influenza. My son lives in NYC. We are pretty sure he had it in March. Never got tested since he was not having major breathing issues but felt crappy for about 5 days. He is coming home in a few weeks and I have an appt for him to get the antibody test.
It sounds like your family had the same as us. It was that dry, persistent cough that was the worst. Just couldn't shake it and kept us up half the night with little rest. Maybe we were both starting to get over it when I finally took my mom to her doctor... and that's why the antibiotics were enough to finish it off. I'm just sad to see so many losing their lives over something that could have been handled better by our politicians, if they had been more aggressive and helped out all of us little guys.4 -

I really do think that many of us had an early version of this thing. It sounds like you had one of the worst experiences, but I'm really happy you were able to get past it. It did feel like a sinus infection (with sinus pressure) and a low grade cold, but for us, the persistent cough was the worst.3 -

Sounds like you're in the same boat as so many of us. For those of us that are older, trying to lose weight and/or are immunocompromised, I'm surprised that we have come through this as well as we have. Many of us fall under one or more of these *worst case scenarios* where we would be most at risk. I'm just really concerned since the public pressure is on for everyone to *get back out there*, even if it is still, obviously, not safe.4 -

05/06 …..204.9….. ENDING WEIGHT LAST ROUND
05/07 …..208.8 ….. Another jump up on the scale from the carbs (restaurant) during yesterday’s business travel. I got the special order of indoor/outdoor carpet picked up for the cabins. It is only available for a very limited time due to Michigan weather so I am thrilled to have gotten it in time and when things are slow enough to have it installed (soon I hope). Even though I am an essential business that supports other essential workers, things have really slowed down. General travel (just for vacation or fun) has been cancelled thru the mandates since March 23. The mandate in Michigan (for the national emergency) is due to expire May 28th, unless extended again. In my area, all summer events have been cancelled. All the money makers and all the things that bring tourists to my community (which will kill my motel business!) However, I do understand that those in my small little town just want to put a wall around it and keep everybody from the cities out. I get it but financially it is difficult. Yesterday in the big city many customers were not wearing masks even though it has been mandated to do so in stores and public places. I would say about 25% had no masks and I was shocked so many of the stores allowed it, including a walmart! It was a very long day. I tried to make a few stops and walk around a bit. My diet was completely off. Today I will be back to normal. Sorry Carbs, Sorry Sodium I will be flushing you away today!
05/08 …..207.2 ….. Goodbye travel bloat! Yesterday had very little movement due to working on electronic downloads and ordering with someone more “expert” than me to help. It was an all-day process. Diet was on point and I was surprised to find no major extra hunger or cravings after a travel day that included extra carbs. That really helped make it much easier to stay on point. Today is more electronic stuff including new downloads to the visa/mc machine which will keep me on the phone awhile for instructions and imputing. I will try to move as much as I can in-between. Snow today in Michigan! Cold & gloomy outside so I will have to pull the ski-machine out again to burn a little. If I can fit in a dance or a Zumba, I will. Have a nice weekend everyone!
05/09 …..204.8 ….. Okay, there goes the rest of the water retention and bloat from the travel. It took two full days, but I’m back to pre-travel weight. I plan on pre-logging food, doing some prep cooking today for the freezer and FINALLY getting some movement back in again, although it will all probably be indoors due to more snow and cold/freezing temps. It’s supposed to be Spring for Goodness Sakes in Michigan! In no way can we plant yet. I can’t WAIT for flowers!

05/07 - 346.8 - A little tick down. I'm gradually starting to do more with weight/bands and it feels good. I found it feels even better if I stretch or do yoga beforehand. My morning walk is a great warmup, I just gotta keep going.
05/08 - 346.7 - Another little tick down. I like it. I watched a news story about COVID19 starting much earlier than previously thought (late December). Apparently, it was found in Wuhan in early November and in FRANCE in mid-December. I bring this up because in late January, I got a terrible cold and cough I could not shake. Then gave it to my mom. After about 2 weeks, I got concerned enough about my mom that I took her to her doctor. She was given some meds for inflammation and an antibiotic. It took a few days, but she got better. I bring this up because it now seems possible that many of us (up to 20 million) may have had an early version and most of us got over it. Just putting this out there. I'm not letting down my guard, but I'd be pretty happy if we already got thru this and my 82 y.o., breathing-compromised mom got past it, too.
05/09 - 346.5 - And yet another very minor tick down. At least it's not going the other way (LOL). I was watching an old Joe Rogan podcast on YouTube where he sits down with Diamond Dallas Page of DDPYoga. Every time I see him speak and show how he's been able to help those with mobility issues and, to a lesser degree, weight loss, I get motivated to use his product again. Hell, I already pay the $8.99/month, so I may as well get some use out of it.

Round 113 - May 7 to 17
Female, 5’, 67 years. SW – 168.4 GW – 167 or lower, UGW – 140.
Goals: continue with 12 hr. IF, 5-6 glasses of water a day (I drink lots but it tends to be tea. I limit the black/green to 4 lg. mugs), complete my tracking every day and get some kind of outdoor exercise unless it is raining – in which case indoors. Did not do well on the exercise or IF the last couple of rounds and it shows – a steady creep up.
Day/Weight/Comment
05/07 – 168.4 – This is the most I have ever weighed, period. I am retaining water as my newly sized rings are suddenly tighter and my whole system seems slowed down. It may be that my thyroid meds. need changing but I have been the same dose for about 35 years. So first I’m going to just try drinking lots of water and walking. I have not been great on IF the last week but am quite sure I’m been within maintenance cals.
05/08 – 169.2 – This is crazy. I actually changed the battery in the scale because I couldn’t believe it. Tracked cals. and was under maintenance, IF 12 hrs. and did 20 mins. exercises. Supper was a little salty but something we eat regularly and haven’t noticed a bounce before. Yesterday was rainy but today beautiful so will be working outside.
05/09 – 169 – Tracked all (rather late) and was just at maintenance because of mango and hot choc. in the evening. Think I may have figured out cause of my water retention – black licorice. I don’t eat it often but every once in a long while get a craving for it. I ate about ½ a package in 3 days. I wonder if the craving is because my blood pressure is low because it both raises blood pressure and causes water retention as well as depleting potassium. Anyhow, staying away from it and ate some banana with frozen hascap berries.

Hello Everyone! New to this challenge, just finished another year of uni and after being stressed about school and without a job for the next few months, I thought I could use this time to shred some of my weight and get healthier as well as study for my medical exam. Ive struggled with weight all my life and I always quit or give up so, My goal for this challenge is to not quit and hopefully join on for future challenges.

05/07 – 157.4 lbs 1100 calories, 12,000 steps, IF 16 hours Lots of errand shopping today, hoping to pick a bunch of stuff up for graduation but most exciting I get to go the greenhouse today. YaY!
05/08 - 157.2 lbs, 900 calories, 10,000 steps, IF 16 hours. Feeling hugely relieved getting most of my Graduation shopping done, including the cake ordered. Unfortunately I can't plant my plants in pots, This morning we were 25 and tomorrow we are to have a low of 20 with 1-3 inches of snow and 30 mph sustained wind. Ugh!
05/09 - 158.6 lbs 1100 calories, 16,000 steps IF 16 hours. We definitely got the sleet and 3 inches of snow.

I"ve been gone for about two years. Glad to see the 10 day challenge is still here. Took my blood sugar a few days ago and it was well over 300! Gack!! No more fooling around pretending I am PRE-diabetic. I simply MUST at the tender age of 69 start paying attention. So, I'm going to do day/weight/waking blood sugar/walk steps/comment.
Food diary is open. I'm working with delivered food from the community we live in and what we can order from the grocery store.

05/08–174—Bad day yesterday. Gave in to cravings and went way overboard.
05/09–173.4—Headed back in the right direction. Did much better yesterday and got in lots of exercise. Feeling more in control today.

High stress day. Most of them are these days. No workout. Diet not good quality but managed to stay under calories. I really enjoyed the feeling of losses last round, Will be working majority of days this round which usually makes it easier to control calories but harder to work out, so we’ll see. Yoga is really helping me with my shoulder mobility. I used to have to stretch a while before I could raise my right arm overhead and now most of the time I can do it without stretching! Feel like my pants are a little looser.
05/08: 237.4.
I find it weird how I can go for several days without a 0.1 pound change in either direction. Jazzercise 20 min. Yoga 35 min. Today is my 15th day of logging, which may be an all time personal record LOL.
05/09: 237.4.
I’ve been eating all the calories MFP allots me including for exercise. I know what it is allowing for exercise is in no way accurate, how could it be. As much as I am enjoying those extra calories it’s not allowing the scale to budge, sadly. Went a little crazy today eating takeout pizza and eating my feelings. Will probably have a gain tomorrow but I’ll be back on the horse.

I'm just too danged cussed to let this thing knock me back, and ruin all the effort I have put in to get here. I am stepping up my routine, and taking control. Sheltering in place means I can fully concentrate on getting in my exercise, and preparing healthy food.
- May: focus on maintaining and increasing my progress
- 2020: Goal is to stabilise weight around 145
- Strengthen strategies to reframe the tendency to use unhealthy snack food as a reward/treat.
- Make sure I have prepared healthy snacks available
- Cut down on eating between meals
Never give up! Never give in!
Back Story:2018 goal: get back down to 160 ✅2020
2019 goal: proceed down to 150 ✅ with 2 months to spare
2020 goal: maintain below 150 dropping slowly down to 145 ✅ So far, so good.
That's a WIN in my book!
Focus: maintenance! I might even manage to lose a bit more ever so slowly.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

05/07 122.6 Sweet, lost another .2! Yesterday was good food wise. I made carnitas in the pressure cooker last night for dinner and turned them into bowls with brown rice, black beans, and mango salsa. They were yummy and will be dinner tonight too! Had another good walk this morning, around 3.5 miles. Last night was fun and I had a random sober dance party for like 45 minutes because my husband was listening to throw back pop songs covered by heavy metal singers. So, I couldn’t help but dance while he continued to be on the computer and enjoy his beverages. Have a good day everyone 😊.
05/08 123.2 Water weight fluctuations are fun, this is probably due to my salty dinner last night but man was that Annie’s Mac and Cheese worth it. I had a craving and indulged but I did manage to stay within calories. I also savored every bite! So, it’s all good. I even squeezed in an impromptu cardio session before dinner last night! Just got back from our morning walk and it was accidentally extra long at 5.5 miles. I’ll take it 😊.
05/09 123.2 I’ll take the steadiness at least. Maybe I’ll drop tomorrow. Who knows. Bodies are so weird when it comes to weight loss. Today was decent with food but kind of a hard to track my dinner. I made myself an awesome bowl of oatmeal for my breakfast/lunch @ 11 because I intermittent fast. Then, for dinner I made buffalo chicken cutlets which were hard to calculate. I probably ate about 5 oz of chicken with a ¼ cup bread crumbs made from Ezekiel bread (the only stuff I had to make crumbs with) and a couple of tbs worth of oil. There were also some hand made fries cooked in the air fryer. So, I did the best I could with my estimates and I guess that’s all you can do. I’m pretty sleepy today and was happy that I attended a virtual christening for my baby cousin because it gave me an opportunity to see some family via Webex and lay in bed for a couple hours 😊. It’s been a solid day. Have a good night everyone!

Starting weight is 238.6. Lost 3.4 pounds last round.
Goals worked well last round, so I will continue them for one more: Walk at least 20 minutes every day, log food, avoid sugar and alcohol and the usual empty calories, take my meds every day on schedule, and drink my water. With those goals, my target weight for this cycle is 236.
05/07 Weight 238.8; Goals - walk: yes, 90 minutes; food: yes, 500 calories under; empty calories: 200, could have done better; med: yes; water: yes, 8.
05/08 Weight 238.4; Goals- walk: yes, 65 minutes;food: yes, 500 calories under; empty calories 250 too many; meds: yes; water: yes, 8. Stayed within my calories, but dinner was mediocre pizza from a local restaurant. Really disappointing, and I physically feel bloated and lousy. It's going to be below freezing tonight, so my morning walk may or may not take place tomorrow. Let's see how the weight and blood sugar look in the morning.
05/09 Weight 236.6; I am highly suspicious that this is a scale prank, we'll find out tomorrow. But even if it is tease it is very nice to see! Blood sugar was excellent (for me) this morning, 86. Goals - walk: yes, 90 minutes; log food: yes, 500 under; empty calories: FAIL. Too many, I am getting sloppy on this again; meds: yes; water: yes, 10 so far.

5/09- 149.4 YAY! I reached goal! OMG. I almost can't believe it. I even had chinese carry out last night, but hiked a good 5 miles. WOW! Just wow. Will FP adjust my calories to maintenance automatically or do I need to go change something? I'm going to complete this challenge because this is a lifestyle change and I'm pretty sure I'll need to keep logging to stay on track and continue to make good choices. Keep going everyone. It is worth it. The biggest thing I've learned is if you feel starved change what you're eating, for me it is making sure I get enough protein.
Congratulations! That's brilliant!4
