So I'm 52 been overweight 25 years
Bmi 30-40 currently 36
Always done jogging and cycling
I can't run anymore due to arthritis.
Over the years I've varied from 180-245lbs
Currently 241
Jan 2019 189
I know loads about nutrition, how the body works, how food works yet for some reason I abuse myself and I'm fat.
I have done lighter life to get to 180
I've used ketosis to get to 180
But I still come back up, so it's my eating habits, no matter what I know I don't implement my knowledge.
What can I do ?
Lighter life, ketosis, hypnotherapy or gastric band ?
Or is there another way to break my mentality?

Stop trying fad diet plans. Keep it simple. Count calories, weigh your food, use my mfp and let that help calculate your calories, and set a slow and steady weight loss goal.9

I think the key thing is to avoid fads, im exactly the same, everytime i come back here im heavier than when I left. Ive done, slimming world, cambridge diet, paleo, ketosis, tiny pots, basically every fad diet on the market. And the only time ive ever reached my goal weight was through calorie counting, using my fitness pal and excercise. I know how to feed my body properly yet choose to live on pizza and chinese food. This time im going back to basics, weighing, measuring and calorie counting, its the only way I can re-educate myself to stop putting crap in my mouth.
please feel free to add me as a friend and we can re-educate ourselves together5 -
You know the problem. You said it. "I know I don't implement my knowledge"... "is there another way to break my mentality". No one can help you. Only you can change your direction.
You are 52 years old now. You won't fix it over night so stop trying.
Seriously, don't focus on the goal!
Start with next meal and eat in such a way that is more healthy than last week. Every week make one healthier choice than last week and hang on to it. Don't give it up! One small change at a time you can build momentum.
From a post that I shared with my MFP friends last week....
Kaizen is an approach to creating continuous improvement based on the idea that small, ongoing positive changes can reap major improvements. Typically, it is based on cooperation and commitment and stands in contrast to approaches that use radical changes or top-down edicts to achieve transformation.
How does this apply to health? A body can have good momentum or bad momentum. What stops a person from changing direction? Well Newton would tell you it's inertia. A body at rest, stays at rest and a body in motion will stay in motion. Are you at rest? Are you going in the wrong direction. No one can help you but you.
Wednesday I came across a cry for help on the community forum. Accountability Buddy Needed!
Accountability buddies are nice for starting out. But, to make a change in direction requires the individual to initiate it. Just like a rock rolling downhill, you will resist someone changing your direction as any body in motion resists a change inertia. You will revert to your original path when the external force is removed. However, when the desire and source of change comes from within change is permanent. Now you are steering the direction. Then support and encouragement only make that steering more accurate and effective.
You want to change your direction? Which is easier huge sweeping changes forced on you by some so-called expert telling you what to eat and how to exercise or small incremental improvements that you choose. These small incremental changes will result in a consummation of changes that propel you to make even more Kaizen continuous improvements!
I went the Fractional, Kaizen way.
In the words of a Mandalorian.... "it is the way"
I know what I'm talking about, I gained 35 lbs in 10 years and have since lost it in 4. It won't come back because I didn't diet, I changed my lifestyle! BTW I'm 48 years old and the profile pic is me.6 -
Wow, the post above me hit the nail on the head.
Im 58. And in my 20s and 30s I could drop 50 lbs in 3 months. And gain 60 in the same amount of time because I wanted real food and drink..
In my 40s I took the small change route. Packed my lunches. Walked a few more steps each day. Still ate "unhealthy" food, but less and less. Over several years the small changes became bigger changes and I maintained a 90 lb loss for several years. I embraced vegetables and concentrated on upping my fiber.
I hit 50 and I wasn't so diligent about my habits. A few pounds came and went.
It's all in the consistency. If you backslide, make an immediate U turn.
Start small with something, anything and do it consistently.
Learn to cook the foods you love just a bit more healthy and eat less.
Good luck!

It's easy to lose weight.
The hard bit is keeping it off.
I've seen many people in my life lose a lot of weight and gain it back.
I'm not sure what the answer is for YOU, but I'd say start a daily journal. Write about the reasons why you keep over-eating. For me it was a way to deal with discomfort. Food calmed me down and kept my hands and mind busy when I was trying to avoid something or was upset about something. Also, I just wasn't eating good varied nutrition. "Embracing vegetables" like bebeisfit said is something I also did. I ditched the treat foods...they are now relegated to "every once in a while" instead of daily.
There's a lot to unwind. Start writing about it.

Thanks guys n girls your words have helped me.3 -
A bit of harsh love today. Boot camp so to speak.
But if you want it and you want it to be your new normal, only you can do it. A coach or accountability buddy will only help if you want it.1
