Yay @Camaramandy648 that’s great news.
On hats, @mbaker566, I always wear one, not only for sun protection and sweat absorption and keeping my hair off my face, but they will also keep rain out of your eyes. Not just any cap though, has to be quick dry fabric and no Velcro as I put it in the washing machine after every run (a lot of people don’t, I’ve discovered).4 -
Hello All, I really enjoy browsing the posts on here and often end up gaining motivation after I read them and then going for a run or walk. While I haven't been posting, I have been running! I started the couch to 5K back in February and am now up to a 5K of continuous running and working towards a 10K. This thread has been super helpful in keeping me at it. I've never stuck with it this long!
@mbaker566 I always have to wear my hat for sun protection and to keep the sweat out of my eyes.
@Camaramandy648 so glad to read your news, I was wondering.

Deciding to do something that scares me a little and aiming for 10 miles this month! It’s my first time joining. It’ll most likely just be walking, but hey, gotta start somewhere!11

@Camaramandy648 that is fantastic news.0

Nice to have you here @enaliba and @natacosupreme3

Welcome to the new folks!!
@kgirlhart sorry about your Aunt.
@mbaker566 I can probably count on one hand the number of times I have worn a hat or visor. Usually only if it’s raining, otherwise my glasses get wet and I can’t see…oh yeah it’s has to be raining when I leave the house ha ha Skip wears sweatband hats and swears by them
@brittanystebbins95 I didn’t used to run with glasses, I just went blurry eyed until I started to trail run because I really needed to see the roots etc. I can’t wear contacts because I can’t get them in my eyes, even the contact specialist guy at the eye doctor couldn’t get them in.
@Teresa502 I’m not really streaking I’m just trying to get my 600K in before Labor Day weekend ha ha. If I miss a day I’ll be okay with that. I’m 30% done, I have I think like 30 miles in reserve. But then again in June and July and part of August I’m supposed to run as many miles as I can for this other race, and then Fleet Feet just hit me up to run I think it’s 40 miles in one week which is a distance from our town to another locally. I guess the ultra runners used to run it all the time on Saturdays ha ha

Well, great. It’s going to be 90 degrees at sundown, dropping to 80 shortly thereafter, and we are under a curfew starting 10 pm. At least it’s not earlier.
Warning, contains my opinions.So, I spent most of last night watching live feed from various sources from our local protests, which were 100% peaceful - although they attempted to walk to the bridge which the police did not want them to do - until police in riot gear started firing tear gas at peaceful protesters. All of the TV reporters present got a snootful, except the Fox News people who apparently were forewarned and were above the crowd looking down. After that, a single individual broke a single window, and was immediately reprimanded and chased away by everyone else. This is being reported as if there were huge riots. Shortly afterwards massive National Guard presence rolled up in a bunch of humvees. Who asked for them? They weren’t needed, and they made everyone there instantly hostile.
Previously I had been warned by a friend that a local mall was going to get hit. She claimed she had heard this from police. I did some poking around on reddit and everyone had the same rumor. It was completely unfounded and no one seemed to be able to say where it had come from.
The suggestion has been made that there are outside agitators involved. Well... the crowd split into two, before the protests, with the past organizer of the peaceful protests being followed around by a guy with a siren who set it off every time he attempted to speak, led chants saying the peaceful organizer was a cop (which is absurd) then took over the megaphone and said that he wasn’t going to go where the police wanted him to go, he was goin across the bridge. The peaceful guy then said he wasn’t going to burn his own city down and anyone who wanted a peaceful protest needed to leave with him now. He left, with about half the crowd at that time. Later more people arrived without having any idea the protest had been hijacked.
Unfortunately Memphis can’t blame this on “outside agitators” because I know the second guy and he is a 100% home grown doofus with a history of protesting trivial things such as parking at the zoo and provoking police into arresting him. He is white, by the way, he’s an all purpose doofus who will protest anything. Later in the evening the megaphone was taken by a black guy, and I know him too, he’s been active in the past as an activist demanding MORE police presence at the basketball courts near the East precinct, since people were getting into fistfights over games right in front of the police station. He’s not exactly homegrown, since he lives in Olive Branch, Mississippi, but he’s not exactly an outsider. I guess he doesn’t see the contradiction between demanding that police referee basketball games and demanding that they leave everyone alone.
Ugh, very annoyed at everyone right now. But I am mostly annoyed that someone felt it was necessary to call in National Guard when the local police were already causing trouble by being too heavy handed. If they had just allowed everyone to walk across the bridge to Arkansas, there would have been no trouble whatsoever. There are no businesses on the bridge and nothing to be set on fire, and traffic was already stopped.4 -
Beautiful day here. Going for a walk in a few. Summer is here already going to be in 90’s this week. I love the hot weather. But not for running lol.
@Camaramandy648 Wonderful news! Hopefully you can go run and celebrate
@mbaker566 Always wear hat - to keep sun out, sweat out, hair out of my face and rain when it does. I do run without sometimes, but not often.
Welcome to the newcomers!

@rheddmobile I lived in Memphis for years and I still find myself forgetting how hot it gets!1

Welcome newbies! Please jump into the conversations!
@mbaker566 - I always wear a hat for mostly all the reasons everyone else has expressed. I get specifically running hats ad they don't tend to get hot, usually have a lot of mesh like the one @elise4270 posted about. Recently I have been getting them at race expos with the race logo or just a cute saying or I pick one up when we travel at places I enjoyed running in.
@ContraryMaryMary - I wash my hats after every run too. They soak up so much sweat that I can't imagine not. I find that putting them in a mesh lingerie bag works well to keep them from getting worn on the edges and those that have velcro are just fine washed inside the bag.
I had a better than expected run tide and got in just under 6 miles. The first 0.5mile was warmup walking with Hobbes the Vizsla and then I took him home and dropped him off. It was already over 80 but with little humidity and a breeze it actually didn't feel too bad.
@rheddmobile - we had the opposite problem here. My response below the cut.We had pretty peaceful protest here in the towns near me with mostly no looting or rioting and the police just letting people do their thing even though it was pretty much past curfew everywhere. Further north near LA in Long Beach and Santa Monica they had a 4pm curfew and thousands of people out in the streets and the police were hanging back really only trying to make the crowds go in specific directions away from the downtown areas and shops. Unfortunately there were not enough police or national guard to really manage the crowds but mostly they were peaceful too. Then another group started setting fires all over but in the middle of the streets and while the fires were being attended too along with general crowd control other groups would go into a different area and break into stores while hundreds of people would run in and grab things. They hit so many independent and small stores and business and in both cities, broke into a mall and literally destroyed them. Not just doing damage to get in and take stuff but unnecessary destruction. One small restaurant/pub owner was able to get into his business while some protesters chased the looters away only to find they had broken all of his dishes and glass wear and destroyed the bar. In Santa Monica carloads of people were driving into the city (until the police shutdown the freeway) where they would drive into a protest area stop and let everyone out to run in and loot the stores then run out and get into the waiting cars and take off. There were not enough police to be able to do anything as it was happening all over the city. These are NOT protesters they were there to take advantage of the situation to commit crimes. Now we have curfews pretty much all over So Calif.. Ours starts at 6pm tonight. I just feel so bad for the small business owners who have struggled because of the Safe at Home order and were just preparing to reopen. I really wonder how many of them will be able to recover.5 -
@Camaramandy648 - Such great news! I am sure you are SO relieved!

@Camaramandy648 Great news!!!
@mbaker566 I usually don’t wear a hat but will if it is super sunny to avoid sunburn on my face and hair part. I have one from Brooks that is lightweight and keeps sweat from running into my face.
I was too tired to run this morning, so I knew I would have to run as soon as I got home from work since I wouldn’t want to run with a tummy full of pasta and wine later. 😊 Almost 90 degrees, but I stayed mostly on some shaded trails in my neighborhood. Ran 2.25 and walked the last .75 while chatting with a friend.4 -
I’m going to try and keep up with this thread this month. I’m aiming for 50 miles this month. This morning was able to get out during a mid morning break as I was covering the lunch shift. Felt really nice and was a beautiful run with white and purple wildflowers poking through. Managed to get a quick shower in too before it was time to take over the phones for lunch.
6/1 - 3 miles
Total 3/ 50 Goal6 -

You're supposed to put your hat in the washing machine?????
I thought that's what running in the rain was for -- to wash your hat and shoes.8 -

That's exactly how I ( and I suppose others) started!5 -

Hence my comment about discovering a lot of people don't. I got such weird looks at my running club when I said I washed my hats - no one else there did, and there were about 10 of them. It wasn't an active choice either, the thought never occurred to them. My hats are always so sweaty at the end of a run I couldn't not wash them, otherwise they'd get horrible salt marks and go stiff and icky.2 -

I wear visors not hats, because my head gets too hot otherwise. Anyway, I wash them every week or so. I have 2 in rotation, and yep even wear them at 530am when it's pitch black - they keep the rain off my glasses (can't remember who suggested that but was someone here).
Missed the last 50 posts, woah you guys are chatty today! Thinking of every one and hope you are all safe.
I was supposed to have my PT session today, but my youngest woke up vomiting, so I'm home with her while hubby is working, and he will be home in time to take over before I go to work.
It's amazing how quickly kids perk up though. For the last 4hrs she's been alternating sleeping /puking. Then about 20 mins ago she woke from a nap, and is completely back to normal. Eating, drinking. And won't shut up! Omg she a stream of consciousness atm haha.
But look how sweet she was when asleep!
Leg is feeling better, but definitely noticed pulling when I walked up a slope, so still not running till after the PT session.
Seriously though, how much will a week off affect my training? I got to 26k as my longest, that was 2 weeks ago now, I'm seriously thinking of dropping to just the HM in September, and concentrate on the marathon in November3
