On hats, @mbaker566, I always wear one, not only for sun protection and sweat absorption and keeping my hair off my face, but they will also keep rain out of your eyes. Not just any cap though, has to be quick dry fabric and no Velcro as I put it in the washing machine after every run (a lot of people don’t, I’ve discovered).
You're supposed to put your hat in the washing machine?????
I thought that's what running in the rain was for -- to wash your hat and shoes.
Hence my comment about discovering a lot of people don't. I got such weird looks at my running club when I said I washed my hats - no one else there did, and there were about 10 of them. It wasn't an active choice either, the thought never occurred to them. My hats are always so sweaty at the end of a run I couldn't not wash them, otherwise they'd get horrible salt marks and go stiff and icky.
I wear visors not hats, because my head gets too hot otherwise. Anyway, I wash them every week or so. I have 2 in rotation, and yep even wear them at 530am when it's pitch black - they keep the rain off my glasses (can't remember who suggested that but was someone here).
Missed the last 50 posts, woah you guys are chatty today! Thinking of every one and hope you are all safe.
I was supposed to have my PT session today, but my youngest woke up vomiting, so I'm home with her while hubby is working, and he will be home in time to take over before I go to work.
It's amazing how quickly kids perk up though. For the last 4hrs she's been alternating sleeping /puking. Then about 20 mins ago she woke from a nap, and is completely back to normal. Eating, drinking. And won't shut up! Omg she a stream of consciousness atm haha.
But look how sweet she was when asleep!
Leg is feeling better, but definitely noticed pulling when I walked up a slope, so still not running till after the PT session.
Seriously though, how much will a week off affect my training? I got to 26k as my longest, that was 2 weeks ago now, I'm seriously thinking of dropping to just the HM in September, and concentrate on the marathon in November
I'm glad your little one is feeling better @avidkeo. As for marathon training - one week won't impact you at all really. However, I would caution against doing two so close together, especially for your first two. It'll be three weeks after your first before you're recovered. Doing a half six weeks before your full will be a good pace test for you. Just my two cents, but I really don't want you to get injured!0 -

Wait? The rain works fine, or natural springs... Right?1 -

Thanks. Yeah I've pretty much decided to just do Wellington as a half. As you say, good timing fo pace and at this point I'm more mentally prepared for that. My last half was 2:03:00 (or something). May aim to do 1:59:59. Given this is almost completely flat, it should be possible? Also I'm more thoroughly trained this time!2 -

I’d say you’re on track for that or better. Keep up the good work (and I hope that calf comes right quickly!)0 -

Well good timing, it looks like they confirmed the date, 30th August. So I signed up!
Wellington half confirmed for 30 Aug, Auckland full confirmed for 1st Nov!2 -
Is it June already? OK, put me down for 75 miles.
TBH, I'm following a new plan with low miles and heart rate training. It's the 9-Mile Marathon plan, very similar to MAF, but not quite the same. Anyway, it is lower mileage, so I'm a bit nervous... but trying to trust it and maybe will end up faster.
Anyway, 75 miles again is what I'm going to put down... not sure exactly what the plan is going to look like, but that seems reasonable.

Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
06/01/20 :::: 3.5 :::: 3.5
Starting out the month with 3.5 miles. It was a lovely afternoon and I ran a nice trail along the lakeshore.

58 posts behind... but I saw that @Camaramandy648 son is negative! YAY!4
-
As for hats... I have to wash mine every run or they will stink badly. I only use them in the cold weather though.2
-
June Goal: 15 sessions of moving faster than....a big turtle!
6/1 2.60
Total : 2.60
I will probably check in weekly to keep from overwhelming myself again....
As to hats, I wear one 1. to keep rain (I live in a rainforest/jungle.....) and sweat from my eyes and 2. My son died of skin cancer. I hat up, sleeve up, lather up (even to swim!).

Wow, we seem to be back to our usual and talkative selves, but I was not prepared for like 100 posts since yesterday.
@mbaker566 I wear a hat frequently, but not always. In the winter, I HATE stocking hats/ toques even when I’m not sweaty, so my go to is a ball cap and ear band. In the summer, ball caps are sun protection/sweat catchers. And they do help keeping rain off my glasses if it is raining.
@contrarymarymary - I do periodically wash my caps now that I run in them.... but growing up in a ranching community, it was almost a badge of honor how dirty and grimy you had gotten your hat.... eeps... but also why I am only committing to “periodically”....
Trying a new strategy on my goal, since I tend to miss it... if I set it higher, maybe I will hit what I actually want.
So, goal for June is 60 miles running/wogging. - with a back up goal of 75 miles intentional movement miles. So, if I can’t convince myself to run, maybe I can at least get some hiking time or quality time with the new treadmill via walking.
On track for day one, at least. 2.19 miles/604 -
@Camaramandy648 glad it was good news!
Re hats: I wear a cap to protect my eyes and face from the glare of the sun a little in good weather, to loop my earphone wire through so I don't lose them if they come out, and to keep the rain out of my eyes in bad weather! Felt strange at first, but now running without one feels stranger.
@Teresa502 re yoga: I have always been very scathing about the more 'spiritual' aspects of yoga, and on the rare occasions I had tried it I ended up wanting to stab the teacher or throw something at the screen. Then I stumbled across Yoga with Adriene by chance and never looked back. I've always had the flexibility of a concrete slab... it certainly wasn't quick, but months of dedication have gradually improved that, plus I no longer get neck or lower back pain and the bonus is it's helping me get through the joys of perimenopause and lockdown without actually beating anyone up!5 -
Hi all! I'm glad to see this group is so active (pun intended). I postponed last nights run and went this morning instead, and did a nice loop with some mild hills and a finish along the beach. 3.6 km in about 30 minutes. I took it at a moderate pace, which for me means quite a bit of walking. I don't really know what I'm doing as I've never been a runner, or someone to regularly exercise, until about a month ago, but I have noticed that I've been able to get less winded and walk less, so I guess I'm doing something right haha.

Just a bit of color from my yard for y'all...This is a wildflower. I mean I am sure a prior owner planted it, but it just grows in the woods at the edge of my property every year, so I call it a wildflower.
Might be peony.7 -

i wanted skratch and tailwind but they seem expensive so i put them on my christmas list. maybe liquid iv will end up there. i was also considering pedialyte packets

So, having thought about it, I don’t feel like spending the money for the June local challenge officially (don’t care for the shirt and no medal) but I am doing it unofficially. Three timed miles, one every two weeks, the goal is to improve mile time by the end of the month.
First timed mile June 1, followed by a walk break, then enough running to make 5k and change.
I had to cut short my usual cool down walk in order to get in by curfew. Very peeved about that still. The order is for at least until June 8. Protests last night were peaceful and everyone left before curfew except for our home grown pair of doofuses that I mentioned before, who got the bright idea to tell their people to try to drive very slowly across the bridges and block traffic, then speed up if they saw a cop. So there were a ton of national guard vehicles on the bridge and police ticketing everyone for driving slow. Blocking the bridges is a stunt this guy has pulled in the past on other occasions protesting for other reasons, and it’s not cool, because people from Arkansas need to get to the hospitals in Memphis quickly sometimes. They have prevented ambulances from getting though in the past, sooner or later they are going to kill someone.
Speaking of slow, it turns out right now I am slowwww for me. My mile PR is 7:58, last night’s mile was 8:33. I have run faster miles than that as part of a 5k. The main problem is I am still favoring my knee and trying to reduce impact on it, which has me shuffling instead of being forward on the balls of my feet. Gotta work on my form. Also, it was 86 degrees or so and that does make a difference.
Now I have a baseline, gotta see what I can do to improve it!5
