So I joined about a week and a half ago and already I feel better. The difference is slight but I can feel my clothes fitting a little looser and I just feel better in general. The problem is I haven't actually lost any weight! In fact, I've gained a few pounds! When I got on the scale today I couldn't believe it! I just don't get it, and find it completely discouraging! I haven't been lifting weights or doing much of anything besides cardio so I find it hard to believe I've gained any muscle mass, and I have definitely been eating better and LESS. Any ideas as to why this is happening and how I can get past this? I really need to loose the weight !:brokenheart:

  • is it that time of the month? have you been drinking the right amount of water and what about your sodium intake? all of these could be factors! i realized that i can eat better but not drink water and do the exact same thing~~I drink at least 9 glasses of water a day-hope that helped

I had the same problem when I first started working out. Even if its cardio you will still build some muscle. For the first two weeks I was like 3 lbs heavier. Then I lost the 3 lbs and an additional 2lbs after another 2 weeks. I thought I would have lost more weight because my pants were so loose on me but I didn't so I decided to take my measurements. I ended up losing 8 inches! 3 around my waist, 3 around my hips, and 2 around my neck. You should take your measurements and then take them again after a month and you'll see the difference! You can't always go by the scale. Remember muscle weighs more than fat!

I have read that sometimes you will gain weight at the start, and then start dropping. Its your body adjusting to having the right amount of food and exercise. Hang in there, if you continue you will start losing........

Don't get discouraged, your doing all the right stuff.

Keep up the great work, and keep coming back to these boards for support and encouragement! You're doing the right thing! :flowerforyou:
  • There are a couple of things that can happen. First of all are you weighing yourself at the same time in the same clothing? Over the course of a day your weight can fluxuate as much much as 3 pounds. The other thing is that your body, when you make a dramatic change in lifestyle, goes into hyperdrive to save itself so it starts to retain energy in the form of fat. It can take anywhere from two weeks to two months for your body to adjust so keep at it and soon the weight will start to fall off.

Back to the weighing yourself thing. If you are weighing yourself in the morning it could be, race yourself for the grossness, excrement that is adding pounds or food if you are weighing yourself at any other point in the day.

Don't give up! I was at the far reaches of a month and a half without seeing any weight change what-so-ever and now the pounds are dropping like flies. Another fun thing that I have discovered, whenever I feel discouraged I read articles at msn.com for women's health or buy a health magazine like Self or Shape, it always seems to help.
