Can anyone please help with the maths working out how many calories in half a cup of skim milk?

Ok so I have Masters Skim milk
The serving size is 250ml which is 353kj & 85 calories
I only want half a cup of the milk so 125mls
Please can someone show me the formula to work it out?

Just divide the total calories in 250ml by 2.
250ml ÷ 2 = 125ml
85cal ÷ 2 = 42.5 calories per 125ml5 -

I thought that too, I did this formula you wrote with grams and it was incorrect, so I thought with mls it might be different. But if just dividing it in half is the way it works then I’ll do that.

The formula should also be the same for calories per gram.
If something is 10grams and 100 calories, than half that would be 5 grams and 50 calories.6 -

Ok so just divide it then.
What if I had a jar of pesto and 47g = 111.138calories
But I only want 10g
Is this formula correct -
111.138 divide by 47g= 2.364
2.364 multiply by 10g = 23.64calories

Yep. You're essentially finding 1g and then multiplying up.1

I don't understand why you're not letting the app do the work for you. It can be a challenge to find an entry that lists grams, but at that point, you only have to enter how many grams you've eaten (or expect to eat, if you're pre-logging) and let the app calculate the calories.8

Or, in some scenarios, it may make more sense to enter a fractional serving number. For example, if you found an entry in the database for 1 cup of milk, and are consuming only half a cup, just change the "number of servings" from "1" to "0.5" (for one-half).5 -

Because sometimes I can’t find what I’m looking for in the database. Or there are multiple entries from people who’ve added it and they are all different, hard to know which one to believe. But guess I can look pnr1982 the packaging see the calories and try find one that matches and enter the mls I’ve used. 👍

Yes. This is what you need to be doing. Find an entry that matches the information on the packaging. Then divide your actual portion (say 10 g in your pesto example) by the serving size on the package label and the database entry (47 g in your pesto example), and enter the result (10/47 = 0.21) in the field for number of servings. Then the app does the rest of the math for you.3 -

If it’s
250ml = 353kj = 85 cal = 1 full serving
125ml = 176.5kj = 42.5cal = 1/2 serving
62.5ml = 98.25kj = 21.25cal = 1/4 serving
31.25ml = 49.125kj = 10.625cal = 1/8 serving
20ml = 6.8 calories0 -
