    I think it refers back to gardening, sometimes you cut off small buds/flowers to encourage a plant to focus its energy into growing larger instead of blooming or fruiting. So when something/someone is going off track you "nip it in the bud" and help get them back on track.

    I don't like the phrase "I love you to the moon & back" also calling ppl toxic, I understand what that is & I actually broke off a friendship like that but the phrase makes it sound like you should be selfish & get rid of any people that are annoying to you in any way
