Battling the urge to binge

Hello fellow gym rats I am no stranger to this site, but this is my second account on MFP. I deactivated my other account due to emotional stress. I began my journey in February, in hopes to get in shape and living a healthy and active lifestyle. Soon enough, exercise wasn't fun to me and was merely a punishment for myself from eating. I was at a dark place in my life, and in August, I found myself compulsively eating nearly every night. Fortunately, for my fast metabolism, I've only gained back about 10 lbs. I kept telling myself that come this school year, I'd get back into the swing of things, but have failed to do so. I even began "scratching" myself as a release, but I know this is not normal behavior. I want to change my life around yet again, and do things the healthy way this time around.
This weekend, my boyfriend and I had a heart-to-heart. He's seen me break down over my weight a million times before, but this time he inspired me to break my habit of comfort eating. Tomorrow, I'm going to take advantage of the free counseling services at school. I set myself a healthy limit of calories to eat and am not going to live a sedentary lifestyle anymore.
I know all of this is a bit personal, but I wanted to share it with everyone in hopes of getting support so that my morale will be boosted. As a 19 year old girl, I never believed I'd get sucked into an eating disorder. I wish everyone the best of luck. Let's finish off 2011 with a bang

Sounds like the counseling is a great resource that you can take advantage of. eating is so much deeper than chewing and swallowing.... getting to the root of you emotions will help you tune into yourself. sounds like you are on the right track! stay positive and son't be so hard on yourself!0

Welcome back and sure you will do fantastic, the important thing is you are doing again... for yourself and your luv, you deserve to live a long healthy happy life! Can't tell you how many times I tried dieting/exercising but ended up giving up...just know the power is within you, just try to remember how great you will feel, and how much longer you will live with your luv dove by changing your lifestyle.
One little thing that helped me with dealing with being hungry is find low cal meat/low cal mayo/dressings/bread, I found by substituing the old products I ate with low cal ones I get to eat twice as much each day and feel full all day, that really made a big difference. And as overdandant as it sounds eat lot of small meals through day and eat stuff with good fiber content, it will keep you full, eventually you're going to find yourself forcing yourself to eat because how full/satisfied you'll stay through the day.
Oh and if you hate exercising try some at home video like Billy Blanks or Turbo Jam once in a while, it really makes it easier sometimes when you're busy or just to tired to drag yourself to the gym!
Oh and add some friends, they will constantly comment on your progress and it will really encourage you to stick with your plan and work out harder
Good luck sweety and know we're all here to support you!0 -
Thank you for the advice. I am trying not to deprive myself too much, as I believe that's what triggered my binge eating. I am cutting out things that I do not mind giving up, such as: soda, fast food, high calorie dressings, and I am slowly cutting meat out of my diet. Eating small meals throughout the day sounds like a good idea for the schedule I have. I currently live in an apartment off campus, so I spend most of the day in class, so I am going to stock myself with small healthy snacks that will prevent me from starving throughout the day.
As for exercise, I do normally enjoy it, I just can't stand routine. I like to change things up almost everyday so I've been looking up different videos online and am looking into joining a yoga or kickboxing class. If you know of any good videos that don't require any equipment, please feel free to send them0 -
Thank you everyone with your kind words. You are all such lovely people0
