does anyone’s face get fatter with only 1 or 2 pound weight gain?

i’m just wondering if this is normal or if it’s in my head. i fell off track for a few weeks and i gained 3lbs (some of that is water weight i think) and my double chin was a lot more noticeable in comparison to now after being on track for a week

The scale is representative of your whole body including your face.
Water retention happens when carbs are high as they need water to metabolize, it happens when you exercise to repair muscle, and it can happen from too much sodium, heat, hormones..
It doesn't just bloat your stomach, sodium can cause water to retain in places likes hands, feet, your legs, face.. etc5 -

I go up and down 1-5 pounds regularly and when I'm on the high end of my weight I really only "see" it in my fingers, midsection, and ankles. That said, I wouldn't DOUBT that water can "show" anywhere, I've just never noticed in in my face.1

I can watch the bags under my eyes fill with water when I eat too much salt. Some folks get swollen feet. Not me. It tends to be my hands and face.1

No one's addressed this part of your post, but it could also be in your head. If you are feeling bad about seeing a 3-pound gain on the scale, you might be extra critical when you look in the mirror. It's possible your face has not changed, and you're just looking for flaws.5 -

Totally! I was out on a 22km hike in steep, but low elevation terrain last Friday. 36C, drank about 5l of fluid. My fingers looked and felt terrible at the end. My face though looked thin and wrinkly, with eyes sunken in. So yes, it's totally possible to lose water in the face, it's equally possible to regain it.
With regards to your double chin: are you sure you looked at yourself the same way as always? We tend to assume a posture that shows our weak spots when we're not happy with ourselves. It's really a self-fulfilling prophecy.4 -

I discovered that if I clench my fists during walks, my hands don't get swollen.1 -
I did an intentional surplus diet/deficit break in which I regained about 1.5 pounds and my face seemed to fill back out just a little. I say 'seemed' because it might be wishful thinking. Anyway I was pleasantly surprised since it was kind of stark before. I have a little more weight to lose so it may revert again.0

I have chubby cheeks and my face is the first place I notice weight gain or loss. For water retention, it's probably first in my hands and feet, then my face and calves. I also have a pretty flat stomach and that's the last place I gain weight or even retain water.
Then again, it could be in your head. I don't know anything about you.0 -

A lot of people find over time your fat seems to redistribute on your thinner frame. When I first lost weight my face looked kind of gaunt, but after maintaining for a while it looks better and better.0
