I had posted the following blog mid july. Granted it is still tough but not overwhelmingly so.

Anyone else having a tough time getting started? Let's face it....I am addicted to food...it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside...the way it sometimes melts in your mouth. Yet, with trying to "get fit" I am begining to fear that which I love. And working out...I HATE IT. Ugh. I could cry...but with tears comes brownies. Sigh. I dislike the doom and gloom attitude I have come to adopt but, well, this whole process seems a bit fruitless.

How bad do you want to lose the weight?

That's just it. I want to lose just as bad as I did then. Just suprised that it only took a month and a half to change my perception of how difficult this journey was/is going to be. I'm no where near my goal and I have a long way to go but at least it feels acheivable.

I had to reread your OP, so now it's not so bad? If that is the case, then great job! Keep it up! It CAN and often is a struggle, but the right mix of MFPeeps makes all the difference in the world. Practice makes for better consistency. And accountability is EVERYTHING.

    Good luck!!

Losing weight & then maintaining once you are happy with it should be a 'life style' change instead of a diet.

We all have our ups & downs.

My attitude is that you should still be able to enjoy your food. Take the time to look at what you eat. You may find that you can still eat a lot of the things you enjoy, but just in moderation. You may also find that there are a lot of good, low calorie foods that you can enjoy which will help you achieve your weight loss goal. For example, I actually like jelly (I am a big kid afterall). One of my favourtie desserts is jelly, fruit & yoghurt on top or a scoop of ice cream.

As far as exercising is concerned - find something you like, or again set yourself a goal.

    I did both:

Firstly, my Mum dies of cancer 8 years ago & this year I finally took the plunge & signed up for a 5k Race For Life. Back in January I couldn't run 100 yeards without feeling exhausted. I actually hate running, but the challenge of the 5k race meant that I trained & eventually in July ran the full 5km without stopping in 36 1/2 minutes. I have already signed up for next year & want to get my time to under 30 mins. I still don't enjoy running, but I DO ENJOY the treat I can give myself with the extra calories I earn on the days I do a run !

Secindly, I tried Zumba at the local gym. I love it - It is fun & does';t really feel like exercising. I now try & go 2-3 times a week.

So, go & try a few things. There will be something out there for you that will earn you the calories to help you still enjoy the foods that you love & STILL lose weight!

    Good luck

I can relate to your post. When the day isn't going so good, or I'm very stressed, there's nothing I'd rather do than wolf down a large pizza.

    To stay motivated and on track, I've been trying to keep a couple things in mind;

    - When I feel the need to eat something I know I shouldn't, I think about the things that are important to me and why I'm trying to get healthy/fit in the first place...being able to keep up with the kids, look good for the wife, making sure I'll be around when my kids graduate from school or get married. I think about those things and make a decision right then; which is more important to me, the pizza/junk or my wife and kids. What's important to you (keep it close in your thoughts)?

    - I think back to the days when I was in shape and how I felt. I've seen various versions of the same phrase floating around, but basically it goes; "nothing tastes as good as fit and healthy feels".

Keep moving in the right direction, and eventually you will get to where you want to be ("no matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch").

"no matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch". I like this

I too am getting off to an extremely slow start. I have been here for a month now and have a lost a little bit, I need to stop comparing me to others who have lost vast amounts of weight. I am not making huge changes in my diet, I eat the same things as my husband does, just in smaller portions. I am not following any special diet plan or way of eatings (Atkins, Paleo, etc.) I have cut out processed foods, etc. I walk everyday - i can't afford nor do i have time for the gym.

I have a great support team here, your MFP family is very important for motivation and support.

    You can do it!
    Cheers

Today I was in a lunch meeting where they ordered pizza...I turned it down.
