Successes: My first meat free week. I'm still milling over what I want my relationship with meat to be. If I can meet my energy/protein requirements without it i think that's a positive. Had my highest mileage month ever at 278 miles!

Success of the week: I finally right in the middle of my maintenance range again. I did some reassessment of my goals, and I think I'm in a good place again. I may move a bit closer to the bottom; if not, that's fine. On a non-scale note, I made some great progress with my running setting some personal records and attaining two of my goals.

Struggle of the week: Some silly things at work.

Success: Complete my learn to row class and now I officially a member of the rowing club. I went out on a solo sculling boat this morning. So beautiful and the workout kicks my butt! Also managed to celebrate by Anniversary with a lovely dinner, wine and dessert. It was a 1200 calorie meal, but didn't go over my calorie limit. The 7 mile run that morning helped.

Struggles: Not really a struggle, but I do appear to keep losing, just slowly. I understand that happens a lot as people try to figure out their TDEE. I declared maintenance at 25.5 BMI, so if I lose 5 to 10 more pounds during maintenance, that's just fine. I adjusted my maintenance range just a tad.

Success/Struggles: Weight is staying the same. I went in for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound after my screening mammogram a couple if weeks ago. Everything looked ok and there a re just a couple of places to watch so it is back to mammograms every 6 months. It's a pain, but beats the alternative.  No real stresses or struggles weight wise. It's been really hot in Texas, but I have still been getting my runs done and feeling good about my food and exercise balance.

@speyerj It took me a while to finally settle at my maintenance weight.  I originally set out to lose 60 pounds and after I hit my goal I decided I needed fitness goals so I started running.  Then I just kept losing weight. It was very slow and if I had been trying to lose it I probably would have been very frustrated losing the last 20 pounds. As it was it was a little frustrating that I kept losing. But now I think I have finally found the balance. It's hard sometimes to change the mindset from losing,  but if you are very active then you may end up needing more calories than expect you will.

@figurethefat Welcome to maintenance! It has helped me a lot this time to not have any "forbidden" foods. If it fits in my calorie goal for the day I eat whatever foods I like. I do eat a well balanced diet, but nothing is totally off limits.

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I'm working on increasing my activity level/cardio a bit more each week. When I went into the office, I used to walk up and down several flights of stairs a few times per week, but since I've been working from home, I only go up stairs a couple of times a week and the difference has been noticeable, as I've felt a bit out of breath when doing so when I never used to be. I'm going to try to do a stairs workout inside my apartment complex's stairwells a couple of times per week to improve my cardio endurance/fitness. I'm also planning a couple of longish hikes with my boyfriend, and that will help get me into good shape again for hiking up hills etc. without feeling too out of breath.

Successes: I have lost a kg since last Monday – a bit lower than I was aiming for, but I have two weeks of holiday eating coming up. It only just dropped below 48 kg this morning and my trend weight is still over 48 kg so I’m happy. My average step count is over 15,000 a day (a lot of that is cardio workouts on Utube) and I have been out on my bike for at least 30 minutes every day.

Struggles: None really. I’m joining in a planking thread and have struggled to keep motivated with that over the last few weeks but I get plenty of other exercise.

    Stay safe, stay separate.

Maintaining is difficult but personally I don't find the idea of "forbidden foods" helpful. You are in this for the long term, try to find a way to incorporate all kinds of different foods including treats and meals out.
I find that I yo-yo quite a bit (just a kg or two) as I'm retired and take a lot of holidays.
Checking in with this thread every week will help you, we all have our own problems and coping strategies.

Well done with losing weight during the Covid-19 issues.

Success/Struggles: Still figuring out how to successfully transition to maintenance. I am a bit below 16% body fat and think I have probably lost enough weight. But I know from past experience losing it is easier than keeping it off. I am starting a reverse diet process, a few months ago I was under 1,200 calories a day, now I am up to about 1,500 and may increase again in a couple of weeks, particularly if I continue to lose weight.

    Hey @figurethefat !
I’ve been in maintenance & I still weigh daily. I know opinions differ. I pay attention, though, to weekly, monthly, yearly averages! It’s just data!!

    Thanks, @mtaratoot

    @figurethefat

Maintenance is all about being over and under. Think of it as 5:2 intermittent fasting or something.

Some days are higher, some are lower. That's good.

Try not to think of an "over" day as a bad day.

Over is good, if you have under, and you've proved you can do under.
  • kgirlhart
    kgirlhart Posts: 5,185 Member
@figurethefat I also weigh daily and I find it very helpful. If you want to weigh weekly, then that's fine. But there is no reason that you "need" to weigh weekly especially if you are going to find that difficult. And @Orphia is totally right about maintenance being about being over and under. As long as you are averaging and not having more over or more under then you will maintain.

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I'm still figuring things out with maintaining while working from home. My weight has still been going up and is above the top of my maintenance range now, so I'm making some more adjustments. I'm bumping up my steps goal another 1k per day, and I'm going to add in an extra 100-200 calories on top of my calorie estimates from restaurant food when I order out. On the activity side, I'm likely burning fewer calories as I'm sitting/lounging for most of the day when working (v. using a stand-up desk at the office) plus not going up several flights of stairs and walking up a slight hill every day. I'm also still struggling with putting in maximum effort on my workouts, but I find it easier to increase my steps goal over consistently putting in maximum effort into workouts, so I'm going with that. On the food side, I'm probably underestimating restaurant food, and since I often have leftovers enough for several meals throughout the week, a couple extra hundred calories add up over time.

At the end of the day I’m averaging out where I need to be which is good, but I’ll have a day or two each week where I eat/drink, then the sodium/water weight/etc comes of in like 2-3 days, then I’ll repeat. Exercising has been a little tough, been very tired lately so I’ve skipped a run or two this week (did my weight training though!), but it’s been a tough work week so next week should be better.

It's great that you're approaching this with a healthy way to make small changes. I've been dealing with something similar. Mine bumped up in March and April. I stopped the gain in May, but it took until June and July to slowly start bringing it back down. My allowable range is larger than yours, so I never got outside of my "absolute" maintenance range (ten pound range). I did get outside of what I call my "ideal" maintenance range which is still larger than yours at six pounds. As a percentage, our ranges are similar - about 4% of goal weight. You've been pretty successful for two years now; you know what to do, and it looks like you're doing it. That's already success!

That's what maintenance looks like! Take a look at my last year (August 1 - August 1):

I pay more attention to the red line (trend) than the gray line (daily scale reading).

Thanks for the encouragement! Yeah, I've been trying not to worry too much about the weight gain, as we're living in crazy times now and, all things considered, I haven't gained too much in the grand scheme of things, so small changes like these should get me back in the right direction!

Successes: Hit 75 miles this week! Another week meat free and trying new dishes.

Struggles: went a little sweet heavy. And this week is my birthday so I expect more of that. Not that is shouldn’t have sweets, just if I have too many I’m not getting as much room for more fueling foods.

Hi! My name is Kristen. And I struggle to maintain my weight. I have had great success losing/gaining, but I'm hoping this group helps me be more accountable. I weigh only 1x week on Sundays, so that's when I'll check in. My 2 goals in 2020 are to not let the scale go above 153 and weigh in EVERY Sunday for the WHOLE YEAR. This seems easy to most, but I get lazy and make excuses why I don't need to weigh in and then all of a sudden everything in my closet has shrunk. LOL

Successes/Struggles: Logging for the win! It's amazing how much 1 week of logging what you eat will make you realize how off the rails you had become. And a few of the days I went over.

I still don't feel I have things under control but I do know what I was doing that made the scale go up so fast. This week I'll continue with the same habits and see if I can continue to see a slow downward trend.

Hope everyone had a great week.

Success/Struggles: My scale weight was low this morning, but the trend is ok so I'm not worried about it.  It has been so hot lately and when it is over 100°f every day sometimes you just don't feel like eating.
