Problems Getting It Up

I recently decided I needed heavier weights, so I went out and bought some new dumbbells that were a 10 lb jump for me. It amazed me how much of a difference the 10 lbs made as I just can't handle that much weight. Does anyone have any strategies to help me get it up?

Are you facing toward the mirrors or away from them? I always find it's easier to get it up (and watch my great form) when I'm facing mirrors.

This "fluffer" you speak of, is that like an American word for spotter? I've tried a spotter, having someone put their hands on it to make sure it doesn't fall, but that just didn't do the trick. Are there any supplements I can take to help?

I have mirrors everywhere, and sometimes I even video tape so that I can watch it back later. I've tried different body positions and grips, but nothing works...

How can you choose that title and be so naive? Google the word or go to UrbanDictionary.com I'm sure having someone put their hands on it should help! Yes, there are definitely supplements!

I have no problem getting it up, but once it's started it can be a problem with it going down. Lifting is that much fun.

Maybe you need two spotters to help you get it up and keep it up...six hands are better than two!
  • Just do less reps and focus on form. This is how you will continue to build muscle and increase strength, by increasing the weight lifted. You will eventually be able to do lots of reps with the extra 10lbs and it'll be time to move up again. If you cant do a single rep, try increasing by 5lbs instead and save the +10lb dumbells for later.

Two spotters, I can definitely see the benefits of that. Then once I have gotten it up and am a little tired out, they can spot each other for a while and then come back and help me again when I am ready for my next set. That might just work.

Sounds like you need a workout partner... it is a tough road to travel alone.

Maybe if someone was talking really nicely while they are spotting you that would give you the motivation needed to get those heavy things up....

    You're an absolute master...mind Warren.

Nice, definitely getting some great strategies here. Having my spotters saying motivational things to me would definitely help. Maybe if I had some videos on in the background too. It's always motivational to see other people doing their routines, and I could study their form to make sure I don't hurt myself. This is awesome, with everyone's great advice I am sure I will be getting it up very soon.
