Hello all I'm new to using this.. Am I able to enter 800 calories per day?

I am wheelchair bound and unable to do much in the way of exercise. I'm not burning many calories at all so I frequently do eat around 800 a day. I know it's not the best but I've tried differently and this is working for me. I eat quite healthy and cook my own meal. I have those Hello Fresh kits delivered and eat one meal of those per day, sometimes it's over 1000 calories but usually around 800. I drink around four cups of tea a day with one sugar a semi skimmed milk (although this week I have full fat because I ordered wrong milk haha)2

How about I ask WHY you want to eat only 800 calories a day?
How much weight are you trying to lose? What is your current weight and height? How many calories a day were you previously eating?
It isn’t healthy to eat that few calories, but I’m trying to understand what makes you think it’s a good idea.0 -
Typically, someone eating that low calorie will be under a doctor's care. Are you under a doctor's care for this diet?5

OP - you can log calories and choose to under-eat if you like, but you won't be able to complete your day as My Fitness Pal doesn't promote under-eating the way Michael Mosely does. Happy lean muscle loss......4 -
My question is WHY anyone would choose to attempt this. And WHY they would ask about it on a forum that promotes eating better (or at least within a safe calorie range).
This Michael Mosley person seems like a .... I will let you use your imagination 😜
Also before today, I never heard of him. So I googled this nonsense and found it to be an awful idea. OP I really don’t know why you would be considering this AT ALL.
Please consider one of the many healthy ways to lose weight instead.4 -
A very low calorie diet is sometimes prescribed for a short time to clear up Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, reduce visceral fat ( the dangerous kind), normalize chronic high sugar and reverse type 2 diabetes. Lean muscle is NOT lost at 800 calories ( 2 boiled eggs and a pat of butter less than what most women eat). There are several medical articles on pubmed if you want to read some good studies on the subject.

I'm not sure how you can make the blanket declaration that lean muscle will not be lost on 800 calories. This will be determined by a variety of factors including starting weight, activity level, protein consumption, and length of time on a VLCD. While some women would not lose significant lean muscle on 800 calories a day, others would.

That's a pretty sweeping statement... two boiled eggs and a pat of butter would probably average out at a couple of hundred calories (depending on the size of the 'pat' ). Do you assume that most women consume only 1000 calories per day?

I eat at least 3-4 eggs every day with a big slice of kerrygold butter along with other things for breakfast.
@bacpath I gave you that hug. Lean muscle mass is lost on 800 cal aday. I'm familiar with the 6 week studies where the peeps ate only 800 cal aday and the rest of it. Sounds good on paper.
When you try to outsmart your body...your body will outsmart you back. There will be blowback from a 800 cal day protocol.
We are bent on survival. Our metabolisms will do everything they can to keep us alive and functioning when food is scarce. When energy in goes down the energy out will go down to match it. It's not exactly the same in everyone. There are medical marvels and our mileage will always vary but there will be diminishing returns from dialing your food down.
Likewise. When energy in goes UP...energy out goes UP, too. There are some mathematical and scientific geniuses here. I am bent on finding long term weight stability. Permanent weight stability.
Losing weight with the ability and skills to keep it off is where the rubber meets the road. The adaptive metabolic, neuroendocrine, autonomic and other changes that happen in your body, the blowback from eating too little will only dig you into a much deeper hole with food.
It may seem useful for the short-term but will be useless for the long haul, the big picture. Waaaaay down the road.

Fast 800 is not a plan that suggests 800 calories every day but instead is a 5:2 programme.
There is also a Very Fast 800 programme which is directed at people with particular health issues with the advice it is followed for no more than 12 weeks and with input from a doctor.4 -
I guess I was just trying to give Karyn some support as I found many of the comments dismissive and sarcastic. My mistake. To clarify- I did mention short term, 2 large eggs and a tablespoon of butter is 300 calories-ish, women with a desire to lose weight who go on a supervised diet are recommended to eat 1000-1200 calories, and those with the metabolic disorders I mentioned above can go on a VLCD for the short term. You will not lose muscle mass on a short term diet, assuming the above.

There is a 5:2 option, but there is also an option to eat 800 calories a day. From the official website: "The rapid weight loss stage of the diet involves eating 800 calories a day. If you decide this approach is for you, we recommend that you stay on this stage for a minimum of 2 weeks, though you can stay on the plan for up to 12 weeks depending on your goals and how much weight you have to lose." From OP's post, it is not clear which version they are using.

I at least understood what you were trying to say.
It worries me though, when threads like this end up with arm chair experts parroting what they have read elsewhere because that is what they have read rather than it is because what they understand, as it reminds me of when a few years back when you saw similar posts a-go-go telling people they were going to enter "starvation mode".
I saw a post the other day for example where very large people were discussing weight loss that averaged around 2 pound a week to be brutally informed that 0.5 pounds a week was the only safe way to lose weight.
Help people for sure but giving people believed to be mis-informed rubbish information is the very opposite of help.
