If you make a single serving of oatmeal, it's easy to count the calories. However, if you are making it family style, how much is a single serving cooked? 1/2 cup, 1 cup, etc?

  • Pretend you are making a single serving. I would say if you're not eating anything else with it a cup is fine, if you are half of that.

I would also say that if you are adding anything to it in the pot such as butter, milk, nuts, sugar etc, then maybe make a Recipe for it. Then you will have the calories for all the added things too.

1/2 dry is equivalent to 1 cup cooked

Um, maybe? Depends on type of oatmail (instant, quick, old-fashioned, thick-rolled vs. regular), and how much water. For example, I eat 30g oatmeal, dry weight. The former source (bulk bin, local store) required 1/2C water to reach the desired texture. The current source (Costco) requires 3/4C water, for my preference. That is not thesame dry to cooked equivalence.

I agree with the weigh the whole pot, then your serving, or create a recipe, as the most accurate.
