This will probably open a whole can of worms but here it goes anyways. What's with all the articles on Belly Fat? How to lose it, best foods for to reduce it, best exercise to shrink it, etc... While the articles do a good job at giving us the information to lose weight you can not target what areas of your body you want to lose weight. Are they using the term Belly Fat to get the readers attention or do the authors actually believe you can target fat in certain areas of your body?

Selling dreams to ignorant wishful thinkers is profitable and you don't have to believe in the product to sell a product.

Are some of the authors sincere?
Probably, stupidity isn't a barrier to publishing nonsense on the internet. You only have to spend some time on the forums here to get a glimpse into a world where people go through education and life and learn very little but have very entrenched but false beliefs.

Are some of them simply supplying a demand despite knowing this "weird trick that no-one wants you to know" is a load of cobblers?
    Yes.

There's a quote attributed to many people - a lie told often enough becomes the truth.
Keep repeating the same message and it becomes part of pop culture, everyone says this morphs into everyone knows this.

All magazines on personal fitness ALWAYS have some article on "losing fat" imprinted on the cover. All you need to do is reel the person in to by the mag.

If people have fat bellies, then blame your parents for bad genetics and blame yourself for overeating. Get the eating down right, reduce your calories and do some exercise for health and fitness, and THAT'S how you lose belly fat.
