Hi, My name is MaryAnn, and I am currently deployed in Afghanistan. I weighed 202 pounds when I got here in January. I am currently at 175. Im pretty happy with the weight I have lost, but still have some troublesome areas(hips, thighs, and "sparetire").
I would love to lose 10-15 more pounds before I leave here in a few months. I hoping to get a lot of advice. So send it my way if you have some. I would also like tighten a few things up just not sure how to about doing it. Seems like im at a point where im not losing anymore weight or inches. This is my first day with myfitnesspal. Just curious what you guys are doing to lose weight, eat healthier and fix those troublesome areas.

Hope you hear from you soon!!

    Hi MaryAnn
i imagine that you are fairly getting your exercise over in that 'Sandy place'. Im not too much up on what exercises you can do, but maybe watch out for what you are eating. If its mess food, isnt that very high cals. carbs etc. Fill in your diary for a couple of weeks and see what it is saying and you maybe able to see where you can lose some calories first and then work in whatever exercises that you are doing. I wouldnt think that you should be cutting many calories out over there in any case, but make sure you are drinking as much water as you are able. There should be plenty people on here that can give you exercises to do!
I think about you guys over there everyday, especially my cousin in the UK's 45 Commandos. Take care!

Hey MaryAnn, nice to meet you! Which country are you serving for?

I know that the Physical Training Instructors that are out there tend to do really good phys training sessions, and it's good to be able to do it as a class rather than by yourself. I lost a lot of weight whilst in training and I think it was because I got pushed so hard by them. Do you have any PTIs with your deployment at all?

For myself I am going to start going to lunctime circuits with the PTIs. It's just a class that is right there and whilst I detest the shouting and yelling and making me feel insignificant, I love the effects on my body! Winner!
  • Everyone hits "pateau's" from time to time. You may need to change things up a bit. Which you have already started by joinging MFP, just like me. Rethink what you have been doing. Maybe change up your workout routine. Make food choices that have even less carbs than what you have been eating. Research "PX90" online. I tried the workouts once and they kicked my butt. Also, for cheap supplements go to www.suppz.com. I've used OxyElite before with good results and NO side effects. Once in the a.m. 15-30 minutes before breakfast. Good Luck! And THANK YOU FOR SERVING!

First and foremost, Thank you for your service. I have two nephews who both returned from Afghanistan in July.

Secondly, welcome. I'm just getting started myself, so I don't have a lot of advice. Having support helps a lot. There seems to be plenty of that going around here.
  • hi everyone!! thanks for your support!! And Qatussa im serving for pennsylvania nation guard. Ive just recently started to run more. And i Have been watching calories usually try to keep it around 1200 a day with exercise. And yes there are alot of high calorie foods here and every base i travel too. It seems like everything is fried. Can't hardly find something good to eat that is healthy and tasteful. And as for PT we do not have instructed pt classes. it is all on us to find time to workout. I think part of of the problem is when i run "missions" i usually don't have time for the gym. And some days out for 4-5 days. I could prob do abs and pushups but as for running or cardio we usually don't have the equipment to do it at other bases or not allowed to run in open areas becuase of snipers....lol sad to say thats how it is. Anyone know of any other ways to do cardio inside??

been having a think. For Cardio, do lots of Jumping jacks and rope jumps, you can do them anywhere. They wont be really high calorie burning but they will get the heart pumping. Try for 5 minutes each and see if you can increase this as time goes on. I also saw a video clip for reverse crunches but i cant find it now but you could do this anywhere. Balance on your tail bone on a bench or edge of chair, sitting up straight, knees bent, abs in. Keep your balance and lower and raise your knees without dropping feet to the floor. I also had this in my favourites if you can get You tube!
