Newly diagnosed diabetic seeks carb counting advice

Hi, I live in northwest Wisconsin with my hubby (50 years this year), German Shepherd service dog, and two cats. I am disabled and unable to exercise.
I was hoping there was a group of folks here who are counting actual carbs--not carb choices--who can help me integrate this new lifestyle. I am already eating healthy--little to no processed or fast foods, no fried foods, pasture-raised dairy, meat, and eggs, and little to no baked goods--but I am over-eating. I have put on 40 lbs over the past couple of decades. I am certain I can be diet-controlled as long as I lose those extra pounds.
Does anyone have any hacks for carb counting?

I asked my CDE about net carbs. She wants me to have 45g (approximately) total carbs at each meal w/o subtracting fiber. Somehow, that doesn't seem right or maybe it's just that I am struggling to eat within the plan and remain at or under my goals.
Any further input you or others have about net carbs in a diabetic/low carb diet?
Is anyone working with a dietician or CDE who advises using net carbs?0 -

Honestly, I'm suspicious of "net carbs." You're still putting carbs into your body ... I was told 45-60 carbs per meal with 15 carbs for a snack. I've been too lax with all of that (and not getting in any exercise and my numbers are reflecting it.) Re-focus STARTING NOW.0
