I'm doing the same thing. CICO deficit seems to be the only proven method.3

Welcome, good for you! I agree diets don't work for me either. They are restictive, and by being called a diet in my mind there is an end point where I can return to "normal." For me nothing is off limits but I eat between 1200-1400 calories per day. It helps me to know that I can eat a food if I really want it helps me. I want unhealthy foods less and less often. I am losing weight on my terms.1
