how much has walking helped you lose weight

i’ve decided to start walking to and from work. it’s like 50 mins to walk to work and i work 3 times a week so about 5 hours a week of waking
(on top of that i go to the gym 4 times a week)
has anyone else incorporated walking into their daily life and would you say that it helped you in losing weight?

Yes, it has helped as it burns calories but it has contributed far more to my fitness and general health.

It definitely helped me. - It's a form of physical exercise I enjoy, it burns calories (though quite a bit less than "real work-outs"), and it gives me time to just enjoy nature and think about stuff uninterrupted.5

helped me a lot. I burn an extra two lbs. in a month when i walk enough.2

Can't calculate it as a percentage but I purposely don't own a car (even though I'm a licensed driver) and seek out "walkable neighborhoods" exclusively when looking at real estate/living arrangements.
The cardio benefits come in handy for a lot of other life things.
Do change up your walking routes and routines though as a safety precaution.13 -
Its my main form of exercise these days...I do it for fitness, bit it definitely helps me kick up my calorie burn so I can eat more.4

I walk mainly for health and well-being, but it does burn calories & will help with a diet. I log 100 calories per mile, although tbh that's probably an overestimate, but that's what I do, because it keeps me motivated. I eat half of the walking calories back. Doesn't add up to all that much. An hour walk earns me one cookie .... but I really appreciate getting that cookie Walking has lots of benefits, getting more cals to eat is only one of them.8

I love walking! I burn about 35 cal per mile but a few miles here and there throughout the day adds up and can help create a deficit.4

I was a marathon runner turned walker. I LOVE IT! So convenient, easy to incorporate and mentally helps a lot. YES it is and can be a big contribution to health, wellbeing and also weight loss.2

I have a love/hate/recent slight anxiety relationship with walking and do it for the reason everyone around here says not to do it. I exercise pretty much so I can eat more. But, yeah, still lost weight when I was in that mode because I was still in a deficit.1

20 years ago I lost 70lb solely by walking and being careful about what I ate. I'd walk 5 miles a day, 5 days a week. I couldn't do it now, but it helped hugely at the time.3

When I had a sedentary job in London building more walking into my routine elevated my activity level which allowed me to eat more while losing at my desired rate of loss so you could say it made losing weight easier with a less restrictive food allowance.
Primarily though it's simply a great habit for long term health and good for the environment too.7 -
Yeah I love walking. It’s way better to do than HIIT (which ruined my health in the long run because that seemed to over tax my nervous system). It’s low impact and reduces stress, burns calories and makes you fitter! It’s an underrated form of exercise. I aim to get 10,000 steps a day.5

Walking was my only exercise for the first 3 or 4 months of my weight loss journey. I found it helpful for my weight loss in the sense that it allowed me to eat more food while maintaining the deficit I wanted (I eat back my exercise calories).
I've progressed to other types of exercise, but walking (high step count) is still an important part in maintaining an activity level that keeps me healthy and also gives me a calorie goal I can follow without feeling restricted.3 -

@trulyhealy All movement counts. I hike and walk and I don't really pay attention to the weight loss benefits. What walking does for your overall mental well being and health cannot always be measured in terms of calories or weight loss. Hope you had a good thanksgiving, trulyhealy. Good to see you again.8 -
When we downsized as empty nesters, we upgraded to a very walkable area. When rationalizing the move, I swore I’d take advantage of it.
The only time I take my car out is for the grocery store, but a new one finally opens next week, a mile and a half away. I’m so excited I can hardly wait. I got a massive basket for my bike and have cute saddlebags on order, and I already have a rolling market cart if I feel like walking it.
I walk for pleasure, as well as to my volunteer job, gym, yoga, salon, restaurants, farmers market, doctor. I greet faces I see every day, I know many of the dogs by name. I feel so grateful to be a part of this very Norman Rockwell place to live.
It’s not just physical health, it’s mental health, especially during Covid. I’ve probably tripled the amount I walk, just to get out of the house.
I really understand now why planners and Zillow rate “walkability” as important. The more I walk, the more I enjoy it. This week, I’ve been going slightly out of my way simply to pause under a pair of beautiful butter gold ginkgo trees.14 -
It helped me massively, not just for the calorie burn. Mentally, I have always been a person that is "if I get exercise, I naturally try to eat better". But it's hard me me to start with eating better. Exercise is the trigger for me.10

When I was actively losing weight I ran and did lots of other sport (I still do). I didn't make me lose weight faster but gave me more calories to play with as I didn't want to go hungry, being female, smallish and of a certain age.4

Definitely! I lost almost 80lb 7 years ago just with walking as my exercise. I still try to walk 3 or miles a day - it gives me more calories and it also gives me time to myself. It's not my only form of exercise now as I took up jogging in 2015, but it's probably my main exercise at the moment.2

I lost 11 pounds walking 40 min on the treadmill in the last 5 weeks. I love seeing the number go down on the scale each week! Walking definitely helps!2

Probably can attribute about 10% of my weight-loss to walking, another 10 to strength training and the rest to diet. I'm probably even underestimating the diet.3

It can help I suppose...but really, diet is going to contribute more to weight loss than anything. I exercise regularly, including taking a 3 mile walk most mornings along with about 60 miles of cycling per week and some strength training. I have lost weight and maintained weight doing plenty of regular exercise...mostly depends on how much I'm eating. One positive for me is that I've never really gained weight when I keep up with regular exercise and stay active.3

I've lost 29 pounds since March when I incorporated walking into my days. It started because I was bored during quarantine but turned out to be so great for my mental health and a very sustainable exercise because it requires no gear and the likelihood of injury is slim. I added in yoga to my routine, as well as sensible eating and the weight is slowly coming off.10

I am 52 now but after my first child at 32 I lost all my weight from walking around the neighborhood with her in a carrier, plus watching what I ate. It was a steady loss over months.7

I walked in January 2014 and throughout that year, a lot. Not only is it great for your body but a walk also works amazing wonders for the mind. Walking is therapeutic. Now I still walk a lot even though running is my preference, but I park at a distance and I walk great lengths into the store, won't catch me driving around for the closest parking spot. I walk all day throughout my house and into my backyard. Walking definitely helped me to lose weight and tone up. Stick with it! Make a goal and stick to it!2

I walk often but wouldn't say it has given me a big drop in the scale. The majority of my weight loss (40 lbs) is from diet. What I love about walking is it sets a healthy tone for my day. I can do it pretty much anywhere. My kids and dogs can exercise with me. I'm in my 30's now but can see this being a life long habit. It is great for reducing stress which helps me make better food choices.5

Yes walking is great.
Have you had professional help for your body issues? I am worried about you and your increasing obsession. I think its good to change things around, but your constant need to add more and more is concerning.6 -
I can't imagine not walking every day. Not only is it good physically, but its the place where I can clear my mind and think through any problems. For that reason, I don't listen to music or podcasts. (As an aside, I also feel far safer walking without headphones. I believe its important to be aware of your surroundings at all times; people, vehicles, and cyclists). Has it helped hugely with my weightloss? I honestly can't measure that. But I know it helps me mentally, and that's certainly been a big part of my weightloss.2
