Recently being in the "dating" game where you are trying to find someone it can burn a huge hole in your budget paying for dinner a few nights a week. If he is a nice guy trying to find someone, give him a break. If he is a player then call him on it. How many ladies wouldn't consider a coupon if traditional roles didn't apply and you were trying to find someone?0

It's kinda sad. It seems to be the consensus that saving money on a date, even a first date, is a bad thing. I think this shows how materialistic you are being if that is your biggest concern. You supposedly had a nice date, good dinner, great conversation and then he uses a coupon and suddenly THIS is the one thing you take away from your night...he used a coupon?
Amen Brother!!0 -
personally, i would be impressed. And how is this any different than him/her pulling out a Diner's Club card? it wouldn't bother me at all - AS LONG AS S/HE STILL TIPPED FOR THE FULL PRICE. that's my thing. it's not the waiter/ess' fault that you're counting pennies, tip right and a coupon is just smart.0

A little weird and kind of tacky, but at the same time, when thinking about someone to spend my life with, being good with money is a positive trait. I might laugh about it, but I wouldn't write him off.0
-
honestly? i would laugh. quietly, and to myself... but i would giggle.
i would probably like him more, but i would wonder if he was frugal or cheap, and i would think of ways to test that theory.
a persons relationship with money, regardless of how much they have, speaks a lot about them. it's one of the things i watch for when meeting someone new.0 -
If he informs me before the date, I don't see anything wrong with it.
If he just whips it out when the check arrives, it will be a bit uncomfortable.
However, I'm not passing up on a Great guy becuase of a coupon. :flowerforyou:0 -
If I asked a lady out to dinner, picked her up and then drove to the golden arches because it was cheaper then a restaurant meal would that be okay?
If anyone wonders, never in a million years would I but same idea.0 -

Not even close in comparison.0 -

I disagree, if I was taken out for a nice lobster dinner at a fancy restaurant and we had drinks and the setting was nice...and then he whipped out a coupon for x% off, would NEVER be the same as McDonalds. Never.0 -

If you're pinching pennies and can't afford dinner in a nicer place than that, then don't take me to dinner. Think of a date that doesn't include spending money. Take me on a picnic, to an art gallery, ANYTHING else. I don't mind trying to keep it on the cheaper side, but don't make it CHEAP.0 -
man no wonder the whole worlds in debt? saving money is embarrassing? it* makes you some kinda lower class cause you actually try and get the most for your money?0

I guess it would depend where we were dining and what kind of coupon it was. If it was a newspaper clipping I might chuckle a bit, but if it's a restraunt.com coupon--he paid for that, and it's pretty smart! I get $25 off of $35 spent at the restraunt for a mere $4 online... So basically I'm spending $14 on a meal that is worth $35.0

I say don't be a cheap *kitten*... at least not for the first date. Save the coupon for maybe the next date.0 -
I think it would be better than having him pretend to be a big spender when he really isn't.....
I guess it also depends on the date itself...if you're really into them and are having a good time, it wouldn't be as big a deal as if the person was a bit creepy in the first place.0 -
I wouldn't have a problem at all. It would show me that they understand the value of a dollar.
I would be glad to know that they are someone that knows how to save money.
I'm a single mom, I would love that he used a coupon (unless it was a chain restaurant!), money is tight for everyone now and then. Its still nice to go out and have a good time...who cares hows its paid for (as long as its legal!) lol
Dine and Dash!!!!!!!0 -
Wouldn't bother me at all. Hell, with the way things are these days, I'd be surprised we'd have gone out at all.0
-
I wouldn't have a problem, and frankly, I don't understand the mentality that would... I honestly don't pay attention to how they pay. I offer every time, and if denied, I don't even look at how he's paying. I don't care if he uses a credit card, cash, or coupon. Presumably he's saving a few dollars so we can go out again!
I don't think it's cheap or tacky at all. And, if he can joke about it, even better! I don't want a guy who just throws his money away in the long run, so if he has a coupon to use, more power to him! Also, I don't care if you take me to McDonald's, so long as we have a decent conversation and a connection! I'm just a laid back girl who can roll with it. And again, joking about it helps!!0 -

amen! someone with some sense!0 -
my fiance jokes that if I were to take out a coupon on our first date, he would have asked me to marry him right then and there...lol
we are both "frugal"
haven't come across that situation in the past though, I would find it weird if someone did that...0 -
if your date (first date!) took out a coupon when it was time to pay for dinner?
I would think "why has this cheapskate taken me to a place that accepts coupons in the first place?"
It shouldn't matter. Really it shouldn't.
But I suspect for a lot of women, in the moment, it really DOES matter especially on a first date. If you don't have a lot of money then fine. Not everyone does. Make up for it with creativity. Cook for her instead. Take her on a picnic. Do something else rather than the typical dinner date. Just don't use a coupon...0 -
I paid for dinner while my husband was in the restroom our first date. I guess I'm not all that traditional?0

Actually, I love doing this... takes away any question0 -
The coupon would not be a deal breaker. I would just be happy someone else is paying!0
