You should it's way better. This was new to me until I moved to Reston and every friggin body here for the most part does it. and after 20 attempts to remember my bags and leaving them in the friggin car I finally remembered to bring them in and I love it!!! They hold way more and are way more durable, I get money off for each bag I use (not much but 6 cents a piece) and it's awesome for the enviroment. I even got mesh produce bags(you can order them online) to bring so I don't have to use their plastic ones for my fruits and veggies. If you don't already do this please consider giving it a try there are just no cons here other than having to remember them haha.

Reston is really into reusable bags! I only use reusable bags, mostly because I bus to and from the grocery store. They're just so much easier to carry and they hold so much more, and they let me be OCD with my bagging, what a win!

Yep I do! :D Love the way they hold everything nicely and I don't have to deal with too many plastic bags at home. Also, I like to think that when I bring my own bag out and tell the cashier that I've got my own bag, I'm shaming the person queuing behind me if he/she doesn't have a recyclable bag and needs to get plastic bags from the store. "Ha! I'm being green and you're not!" =P
  • No I don't, I can barely remember to take my wallet to the store let alone anything else :) Kudos to all who do though.

yeah I love bagging my own groceries, I am really good at it ,$250 dollars of groceries in 3 bags haha. Plus the baggers never really care about your stuff and what gets put with what even though I try to place it on the belt the way I want it bagged. I am like step aside baggers and see an old pro (my first job was as a bagger at Winn Dixie).

I do all the time. And, I use them as a grocery cart too, as long as I'm not getting a ton of stuff. Helps burn a few extra cals while blitzing through the store carrying my groceries, rather than pushing them.

I do use my own bags...it took me a while to remember to bring them in the store and then to remember to return them to my car so they're there for the next time....Love it...especially at stores that give you credit for having your own bag (Target/Giant).

It helps me not to over shop...if I know I'm only going in for a few things...I get take my bag and nothing else...if it won't fit...I don't buy...lol

I take my own bags to the store for the most part, since it makes for waay less to lug back into the house afterwards.

Sometimes I will use plastic (:noway: gasp!) though, because I like having them around to use for bags when I clean the litterbox at home.

Most of the time I do. On occasion I forget them and do not remember until I am in the process of checking out. Funny thing though, I keep them in my car so I will not forget them. My husband also keeps some in his truck too! I agree with what someone else said they are so much sturdier and can hold a lot more. A really great benefit in my mind in addition to them being better for the environment!

@ Emmy - I thought I was the only anal retentive person who places the items on the belt the way I like them bagged. IE all the perishables together, pantry items together. Glad to know I am not the only person who does this.

Yes! Been doing it since they started making them. Have about 20 of them. Hubs asked why so many once. My answer....that way if I forget to return them to the car I still have a few left. In fact, this reminds me I have to take them back out to the car.

Me too!!!! I have something called the litter locker. I use that mostly. It works similar to the diaper genie but is made for cats. But I use my plastic bags from the stores if I am scooping on garbage pick up day!

hehe yeah I don't really like my seafood with my laundry detergent..............common sense is gone these days. I do frozen together, meats together, boxes together, cans together, smushable stuff last so it goes on top boxes first so I can pack them in, things like that.
  • Only thing is...you should really wash them or get some new ones occasionally. The stuff you put in is not always super clean! I saw a special on TV once where they checked for bacteria and found more than any of us would want touching our groceries!

I have to, the grocery store I shop at does not have bags or baggers. They do sell heavy duty reusable bags for 20¢, so I buy a few and use them until they are full of holes, then buy a few more.

I always tell my Husband that I get the worst bagger (aka me) every time I shop!

    Yes!

I also have my own-washable produce bags. They are awesome. I always get questions of where I got them.
I hate putting my produce in plastic. So my little mesh bags do the trick.

Yes, I do. Here in France, if you don't take your bag, you have to pay for the plastic ones.

Half the time yes and half the time no. I need some of the free plastic bags to clean up after my dog  at least I re-use them...

i do. i got the kind that have straps long enough to put on your shoulder - i can put 60lbs of cans in one and not kill myself getting it home. LOVE THEM.

though i will admit that i put chicken into plastic - it's actually greener than having to wash your bags every time you shop. those are then the poo bags for the puppy, so i feel justified.

You know, I have like 4 of them and every single time I forget them. My new years resolution was to be more earth friendly and this is something I really wanted to do but can't seem to remember.

    Anybody have any tips?

I have them in my kitchen. WHEN I have remembered, I will put them in trunk and use them. Then bring them in kitchen and forget them next time and the next and so on.

Here on Maui, you HAVE to bring your own bags. The plastic ones were outlawed last year and they charge you extra for the paper omes.
  • I don't, but I use a mix of paper/plastic and everything gets recycled (I use the paper bags to sort my recycling and have a bag saver for the plastic bags that get used for misc. things before they're recycled again)... If I have a huge amount of bags saved up then I'll use my fabric ones, it's just so easy for me to forget to bring them with me since going to the store is usually an on the way home after classes are over trip

I don't because I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Every plastic bag I bring home gets used for poop.

I always use my own bags. They're bigger, eco friendly, and I keep them in my trunk so I never forget them. Plus i like to bag my own groceries as well.

Another thing to is I was raised in Europe, so you either brought your own bags/basket or paid for each plastic bag you used...not a bad concept.

no i dont, and honestly never will...also i read that if you dont wash them regularly, then they can become a place for crazy nasty bacteria and what-not...from the fruits/veggies/and meat products...

ill stick with plastic....(dont go all Al Gore on me)
