I've been following this slow-burning story for a while, whether bacteria transplants can help people lose weight like it happens in mice. This study says 'no', but if you are a teen with metabolic syndrome it can help there.

You can read about one of the participants here https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/nz-breakthrough-how-new-gut-bugs-can-help-obese-teens/7ZLFNVBGAOYIRBVK27XWBNNZFQ/

and the actual research paper here https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2774355?resultClick=1

So without diet control, it looks like they simply ate more. This study doesn't say no, it says there were no controls on diet, unlike in mice. Strict calorie controls in humans are always very hard to do -- without locking everyone up, most of it is self reported or self managed. And unlike mice, people lie -- a LOT.

Not just lie, but most people are tremendously bad about estimating the amount of calories they're consuming. I'm one of those.
