In my experience, walking does not really change your body all that much, but is a great start to move on to more challenging exercises that will.5

I have heard testimonials from people who lost a bunch of weight from walking but they usually started out quite heavy so any exercise helped a lot. Rucking might be something to look into - even a moderate weight can dramatically improve body composition and calorie loss. Even a little bodyweight exercise can really help reshape too.6

In 2017 I lost nearly 50 lbs primarily from walking. I was managing my diet at 3,000 calories and walking 12,000 steps per day. I am one of those heavy to start people. I started dieting in October maintaining a 2,250 calorie diet and easing back up to 5,000 steps. That has barely maintained my weight. With MyFitnessPlan, since 12/18 I have lost 8 pounds. Same diet -- increased steps.12

I dropped 20kg (44lbs) in less than six months in 2020 through walking. (And sensible diet with no alcohol).
I started walking 20 minutes before work, then added 20 minutes after work. Then went to 30, 45 and finally an hour before work and an hour after. (Prior to Covid I was spending more than an hour commuting each way. Walking was a much better use of time.)
Rain, hail or shine I was out walking. Had a couple of great walks in the snow. (It only snows once or twice a year here.) Saw some great sun rises and sunsets too.

Just a little background, I'd already lost 50 lbs, so I knew from dieting previously that I wasn't eating crazy amounts of food. That being said, I wasn't tracking calories, and was eating what I would normally eat to maintain. I was walking crazy amounts at work, and a little at home daily with my dog, weather permitting. I also did about 10 minutes of arms, legs, and core about 4 times a week- but I see that as negligible in creating a calorie deficit, honestly.
In a typical day I'd do about 2,000 steps per hour at my job in an office setting. I tried to walk as fast as I could, which was embarrassing at first. However, people at the office often commented on how fast I walked, and I eventually wore it as a badge of honor. (I like efficiency, so walking fast seemed smarter in order to get things done faster. )
I dropped around 20 lbs without changing anything diet wise:

I lost about 5 inches around my waist from walking,my diet hadn't changed..but,I had been very sedentary before that...I did best between 12-15k per day,most of it was completed before noon..that was the key for me;getting most of it out of the way early in the day.

I have lost 96 pounds in 14 months. The ONLY exercise I do is walking my doggie. Started out dragging myself around the block, now do 3 miles in a little over an hour.
Biggest thing is how much extra skin I have hanging everywhere except my hips and legs. I lost 15 inches from my hips and 7 inches from each thigh.
I started at 244 and and now 148. Oh...I am 64.

Photo is of me last December and this Dec. I changed my diet and started walking in June. I walked for 30 min every day. I'm down 67 pounds. I was in such bad shape when I started I was afraid to walk outside, I could barely make it to the end of the driveway and it was a hot Texas summer, so I walked in the house. I did laps around my hallway, living room and kitchen.

I try to walk 45 min each day. Adding weights has been huge! I started with 1 lb each and have now graduated to 2 lbs. You cannot believe the difference in exertion and breathing plus you are getting a whole body workout. I feel kind of silly lifting them over my head etc but I just keep going. If you don't have weights and want to try this, try some soup cans (full) to see if you like it.8

I’ve lost about 110 pounds walking ( well hiking) with my dog). I started barely able to walk a block. Now we do between 4-5 miles a day with some fairly steep inclines. I still have 50 pounds to go and a lot of extra skin. I’m adding some body weight excercises now to try to add muscle mass.

I have lost almost 60 lbs total (bouncing 59-60 this past week) with walking as my primary exercise (I have an issue with tendon injuries that makes me reluctant to attempt weight training).
I started around 260 and am down to 198 today, but that loss is over a period from a year ago August, with a couple of deliberate plateaus and one involuntary due to months of bad air quality from fires.
So far I have minimal excess skin, in my upper arms which is where I have always disproportionately gained fat--first on, last off. I am really hoping to avoid the skin issue and that has been a motivator for me to proceed slowly with a 0.5 lb/week target and deliberate month-long-ish plateaus every 20 lbs or so. I am 57 years old and don't know if the minimal loose skin is due to a luck of genetics or the slowness of my progress, or if I just haven't lost enough weight yet to manifest the problem.
A slightly younger friend (about 50 at the time) lost 70 lbs in a year and had a modest level of loose skin that has since recovered.11 -

Last January, I lost close to 40 lbs (225-189) from just tracking my calories and walking in a little over 3 months. Then COVID hit and my life changed dramatically so I'm back to where I was (and some more). But walking works and it will continue to be one of my main sources of exercise going forward7
