Needing some help/support/advice

Apparently on Wednesday I am going to my exes (we have a child together) Mother's birthday party which is at a steakhouse. I went to the online menu to try to plan but there is absolutely no nutritional info!!!! I am not a big fan of veggies or salads but I'm thinking that may just be the only choice. Can anyone help me pick something? Seems everything is cooked in garlic butter or gravy. I've never tried grilled salmon but thinking maybe try that and ask for them to keep the garlic butter off of it.
Here is a link to the menu. http://www.dakotas-roadhouse.com/starters-soups-salads.html
Thanks in advance!

I know this won't help you much - but i love grilled salmon . . .0

I'd go with the 6 oz. sirloin, a baked potato with butter on the side (limiting myself to 1 Tablespoon), and a side of cottage cheese. And I'd drink lots of water after that.
Here is a comparison of the salmon vs sirloin at a different Roadhouse, but I imagine they would be similar:
Calories Carbs Fat Protein Sodium Fiber
Texas Roadhouse - Grilled Salmon, 8 oz 530 17 32 30 0 2
Texas Roadhouse - 6 oz. Sirloin, 6 oz. 386 0 28 32 480 00 -
Maybe the citrus bbq salmon, ask for the sauce on the side, only use about 1/3 or less of the sauce when you eat it:
"BBQ Salmon An 8 oz. fillet of Atlantic salmon covered in sweet golden Carolina Citrus sauce with hints of mustard, red peppers, cilantro, lemon and lime."0 -
Why don't you call and ask if you would be able to have your steak (or chicken) prepared without oil or or have the gravy on the side. Many restaurants will accomodate special diets. And concerning the salads... I consider anything that is a vegetable as a "medicine" that I must take everyday in order to be healthy. If you were sick, the doc would prescribe medicine, right? This would fall under preventative medicine. Good luck!0

Most dining facilities now cook to your order upon request..... Heck.....nowadays when I go out to eat I order what I want & 10 out of 10 times I get what I want...............it's just that simple & easy...............NOW I am not afraid to dine out...........I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO GO OUT & ENJOY BCUZ U DESERVE IT..............GOOD LUCK & HAVE FUN...................0

I would go for either the salmon or tilapia. I LOVE tilapia, but I see that it is served on rice. I guess that you could ask them to leave out the rice, or just not eat it. I'm not a big fan of rice anyway!!! Definitely go for one of those two and you should be good:-)0

Deffo the 6oz sirloin with the jacket potato, choose another side of your choice ditch the bread rolls with cinnamon butter and ask for water! It's gonn be about a 500/600 cal meal whatever extra side you choose but if you specify no dressings it should be one of the least calorific on there and you will still enjoy it.
Be wary of salads someone posted earlier a healthy lookin salad in applebys was 1,100 cals! X0 -
I would ask for the a small steak(or burger) with no added oil or butter. If that's not possible ask about fish or chicken prepared with no added butter or oil. Fish may need some oil.
If that doesn't work, then eat an amount about the size of a deck of cards. You will be nourished and satisfied and the portions aren't crazy. That's about the size of portions any of us really need anyway.0 -
Oooooh, grilled salmon is sooo good! That's what I'd order. But yes, have them hold the garlic butter. The grilled chicken salad looks good, too. Have them keep their Jack cheese and croutons and take your own dressing if you don't like their low cal or ff ones. A small steak is an option, too, but have them cook it w/out butter. Tell them to keep their rolls, too. Gosh, those sound yummy! Go for the baked potato and take your own Molly McButter. You'll figure it out.
On a personal note, it warms my heart to know you're going to celebrate the birthday of your ex MIL. Of course I don't know your story, but my assumption is because you want your daughter to enjoy her grandma. Good for you and your ex! Our world needs more people like you.0 -
I would either go with either the chicken salad and ask them to put any dressings on the side or a steak with a baked potatoe0

What i would do it I would get the grilled chicken sandwich on wheat bread if they have that and if they have sweet potato fries take that and o ly eat half and that's it! Ask for a to go box when your food comes so you don't pick at it when you wait for the food.
Or get the grill chicken salad. No cheese. And get fat free Italian dressing. The chicken will put some nice flavor in the salad since you don't really like salad.0 -

I hate BBQ so I didn't even see this!!!! Good suggestion!!0 -
Three pronged attack: order the least damaging food you will enjoy, save some calories for it and leave some on the plate!0

I am seriously considering the salmon now. I want to thank you for you personal note as well. We were never married and he left for someone almost half his age (lasted only a couple weeks, go figure). You are very right on why I am going. We actually get alone pretty decent now and I try to do everything I can to make sure she has plenty of time with him and his fam.0 -

Didn't even see the Tilapia since it's cajun. LOL I have never tried tilapia and really want to so that's a good possibility too!!
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and advice. BTW The rolls with cinnamon butter will be my biggest test!! They are AMAZING! LOL I stayed away from free cake the other day tho, so I think I will manage these too! :happy:0 -
So I planned out my day for Wednesday already and if I get the 8oz salmon plain, green beans, and a baked sweet potato that is 483 calories. (None of this restaurants foods are listed but I was able to find similar places even for the beans so hoping values are close). With the calories that MFP allows me I can still have my normal breakfast, lunch, and snacks and still have over 297 cals left for the day!!!!!! So glad I came to my MFP fam for help with this!!0
