What’s up with all the spam?

Probable explanation: There was a data breach in (IIRC) 2018. MFP users were told to change their passwords. Some didn't. Looks like those accounts are now being used in a scripted (bot) attempt to send friend requests to people. That's probably not the end of it.

MFP staff is trying to shut off the avenues being used, and delete the compromised accounts, ut the volume seems to be pretty overwhelming right now.

Then just decline the friend request. It will get resolved eventually.
