I think you came to the right place. There are exceptions, but in general the MFP Community has a pretty strong bias toward scientifically-supported methods, with a dollop of "whatever works well for you personally".
What are your goals? Do you have any plans already about dietary approach, exercise types you enjoy, or that sort of thing?
