Going to events??

Considering taking kids to their first VT game for sons birthday.

Thing is I'd have to drive 6 hours, and tickets are sold out. We can probably find some.
Are a 3 and 4 year old going to enjoy it enough for all that?

Might enjoy it but won't remember it.

I think probably not, but it depends on your kid. I can only get my 4 year old to sit through half a basketball game and we once got through 9 innings in baseball but I think that was a fluke.

I think it would probably be a little much including the drive, wait a couple of years.

No! And you just might be miserable too. I have two sons. The oldest son didn't go with me to a Bama game until he was 7. Old enough to understand what I was telling him about what was going on. I go to the games to watch the game..last thing I want to do is spend my time running after skittles, nachos, and bored children. And my second son? He is 5 and hasn't been yet.

My experience is that they become bored very easy and want to run around and play or will lay down and sleep. 8 and up is a different story if they really like something but 3 and 4 even if they like it they have to be on the move. Can't even sit and watch 30 minutes of tv without moving and playing.
  • I agree with Brannock. My little boy is 21 months and while I am a CRAZY sports nut, I'm not going to try and make him sit through a game until he's at least 5 or 6. I think he wouldn't enjoy it before that and he would wind up making me frustrated which, in turn, would make him enjoy it even less. I want his first game to be a completely positive and awesome experience for him so he can learn to appreciate sports as much as his dad.

we did take them to a baseball game, and they struggled.

However, both of them have been saying "go hokies" since they spoke.

My sons are 4 and are just getting into watching and playing sports. They watch them on TV with us, but can't sit for a whole game. They might enjoy it if there are things to constantly capture their attention, but I think at that age, they don't really understand exactly what's going on so it can be hard for them to get too interested.

    Amen!

And that will be followed by a 6 hour drive home!

Take em is you want to...that is a parental decision, not ours to make for you. Now, the people who you are going to be sitting next to may have a thing to say about a 3-4yo who is bored out of his mind and now they have to watch their language as not to offend you and your children...Hey, that sounds like MFP forums.

My oldest boys (twins) went to their first North Texas Mean Green football game when they were 1... My youngest son, went to his first Mean Green basketball game at 3 weeks.... He came out 11lbs 2oz, so he was already pretty much a toddler and sleep right through it!

All the boys love going to the basketball games, my youngest still loves the football games. I think they like basketball games better because they are indoors and have more comfortable chairs (definitely my boys :D)!!!
