I felt fired up ready for today's threshold run. I was hoping to maybe run a full 30 minutes in Z4, or at least the vast portion of it. Things started out really well but then after 15 minutes of running in Z4 my legs just didn't have enough left to keep me in there. While I was disappointed initially, after thinking about it this was still progress, I was able to run steady in Z4 without pushing myself into Z5 at all, and put out a lot more distance actually running in Z4 before my legs started giving out than the last couple weeks. I still have a long ways to go though.10 -
Yep, that great progress @WhatMeRunning! Gotta take those wins.1

Everyone is doing so well with their running (and summer weather) whereas I've got the mid-winter blues. My running is poor at the moment (the hip/foot/ankle issue persists making running slow and uncomfortable) and the weather has been grey, wet, windy and gloomy for a few weeks now. I'm desperately counting down to the shortest day (five days to go) and before that an appointment with my osteopath tomorrow to help my hip and foot.
It doesn't help that my girls weekend away to a trail event is now a bust as everyone has pulled out bar me (and I'm not driving 3.5 hours to run in the mud by myself - I don't even like running in the mud). However, we are all meeting for a drink tonight to discuss running - events, adventures, trips, etc - so hopefully I'll find something else to work towards.
I know these things are temporary, and are not helped by being on a work deadline (which is not helped by me procrastinating), so I'll give myself a proverbial kick in the pants, make another coffee, and get on with things.
Happy Thursday!13 -
@ContraryMaryMary hugs to you! Sorry you are struggling right now, but I've known you long enough to know that you will be back to crushing runs in no time. It's ok to have a few down days (weeks, months). Running is so cyclical, always has ups and downs. Just have to get through the lows to get to the highs.
Hang in there!7 -
I’m still getting out there. Pretty lonely without my running buddy. Husband had his stress and echo today but there was no doctor present and they don’t give you results until your doctor has viewed them which they say might be as long as TEN DAYS, really? We will both have gone barking mad by then. I do know that there wasn’t anything too horribly wrong because the tech (who isn’t allowed to talk about results) was merciful enough to tell him that if there was anything terribly wrong she would have cancelled the stress test. He doesn’t really know his max on the stress test since he had to stop early because he was having a panic attack from having to run in a mask with asthma - since asthma meds are a vasoconstrictor he wasn’t allowed to take them and he has exercise induced asthma. However he did 14 minutes before stopping - heart only got up to 158 - and they said that someone of his age and weight should be aiming for 9 minutes. The tech said the longest she had ever seen in her career was 28 minutes by a guy who ran a marathon every weekend.
So, at this point unless the techs are very good at hiding secrets it looks like his pvcs are probably stress. Which would not be a shock, we are both under huge amounts of stress.
While he did his tests, I ran the trails behind the cardio clinic. Nice weather, a little cooler and less humid. So, silver lining to everything, the trails back there are beautiful and really safe feeling, I passed lots of old people and women with babies. We will definitely be doing that again, particularly if I have to run alone. We have been back there before years ago but the trails have been extended since then. I got in a good four miles plus three walking miles, and there were lots more trails to explore.
Monday was my 53rd birthday, and I got up early to get my 5.3 miles in at WC Johnson before heading out to take care of my mother. It was brutally hot even first thing in the morning, had to take a couple of walk breaks because I was getting goosebumps which is my usual first sign of overheating, but I managed an 11 minute mile average even with the walk breaks. And I got a pr on the little hill at Cox park. Memphis is not a hilly place, so things we consider “hills” aren’t very big to other people from other places - @quilteryoyo runs bigger hills in her driveway than anything in the whole Memphis area! usually I look on Strava and find “that big hill” is something like 10 feet of gain in half a mile or something. This hill is 38 feet vertical in slightly less than a quarter mile which to us feels like a hill! Anyway I was trying to run very easy due to the heat but apparently chugged up the hill at 9:38 pace which is a respectable tempo run pace for me.
I had an okay birthday despite being very stressed and tired and angry the day before. My present to myself was a hip scarf and skirt for my belly dancing classes. I’m not very good yet but it’s a good low-impact workout for non-run days, and it’s a great stress reliever!
53rd birthday!
This was the view looking down from the bridge behind the clinic. The whole world smelled like mimosa and magnolia!9 -

Sorry to just drop in and not catch up right now. It was a busier than expected day. Went to HM/marathon group tonight and committed to it by paying the extra money (beyond regular run group which is included in gym membership). That keeps me a little more motivated to get my money's worth. Tonight's workout was a ladder of 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1 minute intervals with 2 minutes recovery between. Amazingly it was a much cooler night tonight at only 64 degrees, which felt cold starting out after 90s last week.6 -
What a difference a day makes - same run scheduled as yesterday but today, with the same amount of effort and the same time, I ran a whole extra kilometre!11

Another 6.25 mile run for me this morning. It wasn't quite as awesome as yesterday's run, but it was still pretty darn good. It even seemed a little cooler today. I really like that it is starting to get light out while I am running.
Happy Belated Birthday @rheddmobile!

@ContraryMaryMary I too find myself very affected by the seasons - the darkness in the middle of winter is so difficult, even with a whole list of things that help. Hugs to you, and it's bittersweet as you count down your 5 days until the daylight starts getting longer, because that's when it will start getting shorter for me. I've still got a couple more months of glorious summer in Poland though. It really makes up for the gloomy winters.
@rheddmobile I can hear half of us saying "28 minutes? Challenge accepted!" but I imagine they make it extremely tough, especially with stuff covering your face. I hope you get back good results quickly - you've got enough stress in your lives right now.

Happy Belated Birthday @rheddmobile! I saw that you ran your 5.3 miles on your 53rd birthday on Strava and was going to come here and wish you a happy birthday, then life got in the way and I completely forgot 😜
Glad you had a good run @ContraryMaryMary! Ride the wave 😁

Argh Garmin, what are you doing?!?
Yesterday was my restday. All looked normal. This morning I look onto my running coach programme to see what's in store today. And notice that the programme is gone. Look onto the Garmin website and it's gone there as well. Well, actually it's archived and I can't restore it. I don't have the strength to start another 17 week programme, starting with 4 weeks of slow and shorter runs. I'm not sure what to do at the moment. Today's run is still stored on my watch, thus I'll do that one anyway. Might actually do a shorter programme with another coach. Not sure yet. Argh!7 -
Wow @yirara, the Garmin gods are really fighting you lately Sorry for all your troubles. Not sure what to tell you, but hope it gets straightened out somehow.
7 miles for me this morning. Weather still hot and humid. Went out for an easy run, but splits kept coming in over a minute and a half faster than I wanted. Kept telling myself to slow down, but it didn't work. But HR stayed in the low 120s, so I guess that still counts as easy.
The last few days I have started noticing PF niggles in my right foot. Panicked last night and tried the Strassburg sock. Could only keep it on for about 2 hours. Just can't sleep with that thing on. But I didn't feel it while running until about mile 4. Then for some reason I felt like I should splay my toes more when I land. Instantly the PF pain went away! Not sure why I thought to do that, but I'm going to keep doing that and see what happens.
7 -
Ok then.. today's run has also vanished from my watch now. Ho hum... yes, the running gods are really not with me. Argh!7

@ContraryMaryMary hang in there, it’s hard to keep on task when things keep changing and weather is crap.
@rheddmobile you have too much going on my friend. I hate waiting for test results, it’s crazy. Skip had tests done a few years ago and cancer was a real option, I didn’t tell a soul (including her) that the doctor told me that, I didn’t want that out in the environment. The first words out of the doctor’s mouth was “no cancer” and I just cried like a baby. Waiting sucks. I did a stress test and the tech was like how long can you run on this thing, I said “when’s lunch?” it was like 8 in the morning. I’m glad they gave a clue to you all not to worry. Happy Birthday. There is nothing better than the smell of mimosa and magnolia! The lady around the corner has mimosas (as a matter of fact we took pictures with them the other day), when the wind blows to the North you can smell them a ¼ mile before you get to her house. She gave me a cutting but I can’t get it to grow. You can’t buy them and at least in NJ it’s illegal to dig them up to move them from the wild.
@yirara call Garmin they do a great job of standing behind their product.

They are useless here unfortunately. I had more problems with the Garmin Coach before, and they could not help. A week later they decided to send my support request to the UK, and then it took another week for them to tell me they can't do anything. I'd rather start again than waiting to be told they can't do anything for two weeks.2 -

Ret day today. Golf instead of running. Thought about running after, since it's nice and cool, but my wife/boss thought my body could use a break.
@rheddmobile Bitterly disappointed that the spoiler did not contain a belly dancing video. One of the things I miss most about Turkey (after the food) is the dancers. Happy birthday, and hoping hubby's just dealing with PVCs. I've had them for a long time, and once you get used to them, they're not as frightening as when they started.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

Good news! The cardio office called today and said the doctor isn’t even going to call to talk to my husband about results because there is nothing to talk about, everything looks perfect. He is still having crazy pvcs but it appears to be stress and there’s nothing to be done about it. Also it’s probably not that dangerous.12

Hey everyone. My step-daughter and her family left in the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday. My cousins are leaving in the morning, so I am trying to get caught up with everyone. I only managed to get in one run while everyone was here, but did do my fast walk every day. So, I'm way behind on my running and HM plan at the moment. I hope I can get back on track next week.
Going to try to scan through all the posts I've missed. I'm over 120 behind, so won't all happen at once.
@katharmonic Congrats on your new bench press PR last week!

Not much to say about today's run. It was good, but uneventful. I ran 6 miles. They were pretty slow, but I am always slower in the summer when it is hot so I try not to feel bad aboutit. I have been enjoying it getting light earlier. Tomorrow will be a rest day for me. I'm glad the weekend is almost here. Work has been crazy busy lately. But the running helps.

Treadmill run before strength training today. Kind of tweaked my back doing deadlfts, so I'm upset about that. But it's feeling better tonight after I worked on it with a massage ball and have been using the heating pad. It was very close to spasming so I hope I've headed that off.
I am off on a mini de-stressing weekend. I was offered access to a lake house for free for a few days so of course I did not say no to that, even though it was last minute and I couldn't really find anyone to come join me. It's a cute little house up on a bluff overlooking a lake, and there is a dock way down below (with a ton of steps to get to it). I brought my dog Stella and she has never really been on vacation before. She's doing well and is pretty wiped out from all the travel and newness of it all. I hope to kayak tomorrow if I can get the kayak down to the dock (they haven't moved them down there yet, they are brand new kayaks). If my back is not much better though that is not happening. But still, I will not complain too much. One pic of Stella and I enjoying the view:/

Hey all. Am still here hugging and liking as I go.
Been a stressful couple of days. But still managing to run. Well sort of. I skipped Wednesday cause I was so tired.
Today was 20 mins at race pace. It was a beautiful clear calm morning. My run was wonderful. I felt like I could have gone for ages.
Then I checked the weather forecast for the race. The local ones say 25knot winds. Oh well.
I guess anything less than 2:02:37 is what I'm going for...
Though this is the route I first did 10 years ago this week, and did in 3:07:12 so I'll be happy with anything less than that bahaha9
