Sorry all! I was on vacation with little to no internet access. Loved it! LOL
@shanaber The big fire is east of Phoenix. We went to the White Mountains this week and usually there's two main ways to go. We couldn't go one way because it was closed due to the fire. Then when we got home we found out a few hours after we went through the other route was down to ONE lane. Not one lane each way but just one lane total. We had Shadow with us so we were glad we missed that one. Sitting and waiting for the lane to change directions sucks as humans but I'd feel bad having a dog sit through that.
Going through the White Mountains and looking at the devastation and recovery of a 2011 wildfire is a reminder that we need to be better because it takes a looooooong time for the earth to heal. It's looking like this year isn't going to be any better than last year for fires. We really need some rain but I read they are expecting a pretty dry monsoon season. Joy.
Of course we come back the week that will have 117 degree highs and overnight lows in the high 80s. Yay. We went from 90s to high triple digits quickly this year. No gradual increase. And it's been so freaking dry. I bought a humidifier for while we sleep and it's not helping much.
Speedwork thoughts: Newbies don't need to focus on speed work. You will get faster naturally with training. Once you've been doing it for a while then start with simple fartleks.
28 miles out of a hopeful 100. A little behind but had 4 days off.6 -

I have a city half marathon next week and most of my running lately has been on trails, so I did a 22k route around the city. I wasn't pushing the pace, just trying to cover the distance, but road running must really be different from trail because all sorts of stuff hurts now 😆. I did my stretches and rolling.
Then we took the kids to a nearby town for a model train show at a mining museum, climbed a tower, ran a kilometer to the nearest train station to be there in time to see the train, walked around a town square and ate at a restaurant(!!!) - well, outside the restaurant, on the square. There was a stage set up and wind bands were playing concerts. It was great.

Nice variable weather today: sunny the first k; rained for kilometers 2 and 3; cloudy for 4; and sunny again for 5, 6, and 7.
After pondering why my legs haven't seemed normal, finally remembered that it takes me about 2 weeks to recover from race pace effort. So I'm happy again.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)

@shanaber I hope you can get your bicep injury looked at soon and start to heal.
Well no long run (or any run) this weekend. Out of nowhere, my back seized up on me as I bent over to put the flyswatter back under the sink.
I could barely walk yesterday, but slightly better today. That officially ends my streak of running every other day since Christmas last year. But the good news is is isn't because of a running injury. The bad news is I feel like I'm an 80 year old man that needs a cane to walk to the bathroom 😢
But hoping the muscles relax and I can get back to running in the next few days.

June Goal: 116 Miles
6/1: 6.10 miles
6/2: 5.11 miles
6/3: 5.35 miles
6/6: 11.02 miles
6/8: 3.12 miles
6/9: 6.22 miles
6/10: 6.55 miles
6/13: 11.03 miles
53.49/100 miles completed for June
I got out and ran 11 miles this morning. They were slow, but I wasn't trying to be fast. It was already hot and humid at 7:50 this morning. I wish I could make myself get up earlier on Sundays but I just can't seem to do it. Honestly it wasn't much cooler at 6:50 than it was at 7:50, but it was more humid earlier. It was 75°F feels like 76°with 86% humidity and 71° dew point at the start. When I finished up it was 84°F feels like 89° the humidity was down to 68% but the dew point was 72°.
But despite the heat I had a great run. I just went slow and didn't worry about my pace. I was able to just kind of zone out and run.
@rheddmobile We had heat indexes over 100 all last week and it has been so humid. We did finally get a break from the rain and floods and now the mosquitos are ridiculous.
@scotty6255 I hope your back is better soon!
@shanaber I hope the bicept isn't too serious and feels better soon.
2021 Races:

Great run @kgirlhart and @rheddmobile! I know it is miserable outside.
Thanks all for the well wishes. Sorry for playing the sympathy card, but I seriously thought I was done running for at least a week (at best). But I felt better today, and thought I would take a chance on the treadmill. That first step was scary, but it didn't really hurt. I kept my stride short, and pace slow. Didn't want to push it, so stopped at 3 miles. Time and time again I have proven to myself that running fixes so many problems. It didn't let me down today either. And.... my streak is still alive

I was hoping that an easy run would help loosen it up. Glad it worked.3 -
@Scott6255
*dew claws up*
*whispers* we still call it crazy
In other news:
Fitbit completely died on me today. Until I decide what to do about data, I will run based on time. Very disappointed in fitbit. Maybe I have relied too heavily on my data and need to go back to just running.
For the challenge on MFP, I will compute 5.5 mph, 11 min/mile10 -
@scott6255 So glad the back is better and you were able to get a run today.0

Great news @Scott6255
@AlphaHowls I understand the frustration about data reliance. I suspect you'll manage fine, until you want to see data of course.
It all depends how important that data is to your goals is all. For me, gotta have it for now. Everything is based on it save for the ever important common sense "how I feel" that lets me know if something is off.4 -

Aye, I am very dependent on my data. I have used fitbit and mfp for six years come July. It gives me a sense of control in order to maintain my weight and life. I am going to try it a few days, but suspect I will have a new fitbit delivered.
*sighs* I don't even own a watch to time with.....

Hello everyone, ran my Ultra Marathon today and thoroughly enjoyed!
It was tough though, 31.45 miles with 5,050 feet of Elevation and very warm weather, running time: 8 hours 9 minutes. Terrain was trail, but for the most part it was like fell running, with some muddy and boggy sections.
Nearly took a few wrong turns but ended up running with a small group of other runners, which was lovely.
Legs are very achy and toenails are intact (for the time being!) and no falls/trips, so all in all it was a great race.
Going to rest for a few days and then get back to the trails... It's where I am the happiest 😊.
June cumulative:
69.3/120 miles
9,116/12,000 feet of elevation13 -
Congrats @sweetdaisy13. That is truly amazing!!1
-
Yay @sweetdaisy13 well done!
@AlphaHowls I hear you on the data. I'm not fixated on it but I LIKE it and feel naked without the watch. I have a good sense now on my neighbourhood distances but still like that reassurance of knowing pace etc. Maybe time for a garmin? Lol
@Scott6255 yay for the streak being alive and I'm glad your back is OK. Inspiring and well done listening to your body!
Monday today. 13 days till next HM. Today is WET! like insanity wet. It was glorious. There is a bit of a breeze but not bad. I've started looking ahead to what the weather might be, but it's too far out. Some forecasts look fantastic, some look awful. Today's run was 30min at race pace and I suck at sticking to a pace. I keep going faster and faster haha. I'm getting better at recognising when I'm speeding up. Sigh. Still it felt wonderful and I wasn't too tired at the end. Only have to do the same time, x4 haha6 -
Spent the past hour rage cooking and now I have breakfast and dinner for three people for six days. Not sure anyone will be able to taste the love though. So fed up with this, not being able to have even one day off. Now I have to do laundry and then hop immediately into bed for five hours sleep if I want to run tomorrow.11

@AlphaHowls sorry about the Fitbit. I'm guessing you know how long certain routes are, and if you check the time before and after you run, you could enter it manually on Strava. OR run with your phone and record with Strava or another app. OR get a new GPS watch doesn't have to be Fitbit if you're over them - maybe they can't handle your level of running
I can still run while my youngest rides her bike with me to school, so did that and then continued on, without a real plan on where I was going. Ended up with about 8k. Felt kinda tired but kinda strong at the same time. The weather has actually cooled down and was lovely.
I was slowed down slightly by these two [very different] things blocking my path:
Now I need to see what I can do to repair "galaxy icing cake fail" when I had several different colors of store-bought icing, warmed up according to package directions to be pourable... but ONE color (a different brand) didn't take my food coloring well and got clumpy, ruining the whole marble pour effect. I will not post pictures. Long-time members here can just imagine that awesome cake @Avidkeo made and posted video of a while back with her kids, as that's similar to what I was going for. Maybe next time! On the plus side, the kid doesn't know it's a failure, and is more excited about the Skittles that will pour out when we cut into it.
Happy running, everyone!9 -

My weekend at the RunningLane Track Championships in the spoilerFriday and Saturday I helped with the RunningLane Track Championships. I’m telling you these high school (and middle school) runners are amazing. Many set huge PRs, seriously how do you cut 10 seconds off your PR in a mile when you are already running under a 5 minute mile. Two age group records were set, including breaking of a WORLD RECORD in the mile set in 1973!!! 38 states represented 2 athletes even from Hawaii, 4 from Canada and can I tell you how nice they all were! I did the event check-in so talked to them all at one time or another, they were all so polite and happy to talk about where they were from and their running. Some just stopped by between races to chat with me, just a great experience. RunningLane does an amazing job of hosting these and since they ran in college they treat the meets like a college national meet, play by play during the races, the championship races were at night so they turned off the light and had people pull out their cell phones while they introduced the girls and they ran down the front stretch with everyone yelling and waving their phones. The girls were like OMG that was the neatest thing I felt like a professional runner. So awesome.
@shanaber that sounds painful how are you now?
@AlphaHowls as much as I complain about the heat I really don’t mind it too much. Glad you are loving it. Face it you wore out your Fitbit
@polskagirl01 your runs always sound like a fun adventure. I’m thinking a train would definitely slow me down.
@Scott6255 glad your back is better – attention seeker ha ha
Super job @sweetdaisy13
