65 and never had so much trouble losing weight! Have been using fitness pal for more than a year. Gave up for several months because it just got exhausting to work hard, eat right and still maintain or even gain a little. Two pounds down, 1 pound up. Two pounds down, 3 pounds up. Ugh! Looking for some friends to slog through this with.

Hi!
I'm wondering whether you might enjoy participating in this thread, in case you haven't seen it yet:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10718336/60-yrs-and-up#latest
It's been going on for a while, and like other long-term threads in the Community, be aware that the newer posts are on the later (high-numbered) pages, so don't worry if you take a look at it and the first posts are pretty old. It's still active.
I'm 65 too, lost 50+ pounds using MFP at age 59-60, and have been hanging around since to maintain a healthy weight.
Are there particular things you've struggled with, that you think others in the Community might have ideas for helping with?
I'm not the world's best MFP friend (kind of inattentive/lackadaisical on that side of MFP, more of a Community forum gal, I guess?), but wanted to acknowledge your post, say "hi & welcome", and wish you success!1 -
Thanks Ann, I thought I was posting in the 60-plus group, but just getting used to these forums. I went back through some of the posts and found info from someone who is doing intermittent fasting. I’m thinking I may give that a try. Frankly, my diet and exercise programs have not been great for the past several months. I just got frustrated and quit and though I have been mostly healthy for most of my adult life, I’ve been pretty lax of late. Nobody but me to blame. 😉1

IF seems to work well for people who prefer larger meals, or who are helped by the stricter eating-time rules, based on posts I've seen around here. If it seems like it might help you, why not give it a whirl? Experiments are good, IMO. Sometimes we find the perfect thing, and the worst that can happen is we learn something. 😉
I'm pretty much a hedonistic old hippie, go for minimal-rules kinds of strategies, so I don't have any personal experience with IF.
I hear what you're saying about mindset: I wish I could figure out what it is that will make my brain flip from "I ought to do something about X" to a sincere "I'm committed to doing something about X" . . . that switch-flip is magical, but mysterious, to me.
Any step in a positive direction is better than no step, though, I guess. Posting here is a step, right? 🙂 Betting you're heading for that good switch-flip, and you know the destination is worth it.
Best wishes!0
