I’ve lost 3lbs & after a week progress has not been good. Been frustrated right now, just don’t care about if I’m in a deficit or surplus.

Losing weight is usually a long haul.
How much do you have to lose? How long have you been trying?

50lb, been doing for 20 days.0

With 50lbs to lose, you'll definitely need to learn some patience, since you've only been at it for 20 days.
Weight fluctuates, your weight will not go down in a linear fashion.
You might want to read this:

So basically: look at the long term trend. You've lost 3 lbs in 20 days, that's a good loss!1 -
I guess I don’t look at the progress I’ve made. Does myfitnesspal adjust your calories as you lose a certain weight or do you adjust yourself.0

In my experience it doesn't adjust automatically. I go through my goal settings periodically, changing my activity level setting and weight loss rate and then changing them back again. That usually updates my calorie goal. Every 5 or 10lbs lost or so, the difference is small.1

Thank you for the article, will be looking back at it for reference.0 -

3 pounds in 20 days *is* good. (So is that article leitchi recommended.)
Your best strategy is to understand what the realities will be, adopt strategies to make it as easy as possible to stick with, because even at the fastest possible (but still healthy) pace, 50 pounds is going to be at least a multi-month project. On top of that, I'm assuming you want to keep those 50 pounds off permanently, which puts a premium on figuring out new eating/moving patterns *during* weight loss that will keep you happily at goal weight long term, rather than treating weight loss as a quick project with an end date, after which things go back to normal.
I lost 50+ pounds starting in April 2015, fairly quickly - sometimes more quickly than optimal, honestly (and paid for that). It still took 8 months or so. (I'm still at a healthy weight here in 2021, BTW.)
A relatively easy, patient approach can actually be faster than trying to lose at breakneck speed, which often brings compensatory overeating along the way, if not giving up entirely.0
