Hi, I do really well on my diet when i am at home and with my family but does anyone have any advise for how to keep with your diet when you go out to eat, or go visit with friends, or have family visiting from out of town?

Research in advance!
Keep healthy snacks on hand!
Portion control!

portion control and be conscious on what you're eating, research on the more fatty substances.
My dad told me that when my Aunt was losing weight, instead of sticking around for the cake she would go for walks instead.0 -
Portion control is making all the difference for me. When you go out to dinner, of course make an effort to order healthy food - fish, chicken, salad etc. AND ask for a to go box up front and pack at least half the meal away - or share the meal with another at dinner rather than each of you ordering an entree. Always stick with water for your drink. When going to dinner at someone's house, just eat proper portion amount - you really don't have to clean your plate and it is socially acceptable to decline dessert.
Be strong - it's all just a matter of reframing the ways we think of eating. Good luck.0 -
If I know where we're going to eat out, I go to their website and look at the menu online. It really helps me to decide before I get there what I'm going to have. I don't have to open the menu and get tempted by all those food porn pictures! Add a To Go box when you place your order and either ask them to put half your order in it (more and more restaurants are doing this) or you do it when your food arrives.0

when I'm going out, it depends. If its somewhere I really love, I plan for the extra calories, and then take the hit....do a little extra time at the gym. If its just a matter of being with friends and isn't really about the food, I drink water, order a salad, and stick with something simple. Just remember no one is going to care if you clean your plate.
As for visiting friends, I usually plan for a trip to the grocery store. I'm always really up front about what I want/need as far as healthy food and snacks.
Same with family...usually family wants to support your good choices...there are so many great meals to cook that are still healthy for you, without making you or your family feel like they are "on a diet"
When it comes to dessert I like the "three bite rule" (you can have three bites of anything...and rally enjoy them) or, I stick with fruit...angel foodcake and berries looks beautiful and is pretty low calorie.
Its really just about thinking ahead, and deciding what you want before the choices are in front of you (now I sound like my mother, lecturing about sex when I was a teenager...lol)0 -
I went out to eat twice this weekend. I did research before-Texas Roadhouse and TGI Fridays. Really helps.0

What did you end up getting when you went to Tesas Roadhouse? I love that place, but I haven't been in over 6 months. I would really like to go back without blowing my calories. Thanks.0
