@Ladybug8882021
The picture is gorgeous! Where are you staying? Do they have a gym? Most gyms have a scale somewhere on the property. Maybe off a bit compared to your home one but could help keep you on track with maintenance.3 -
@justanotherloser007
Well I lied to you awhile back. I said I had no intention of increasing my Elliptical time above the 150 minutes, I was doing. I have increased a bit to hit a certain mileage or watch the end of a movie. Well, I went up to 200 minutes and today did 210 minutes (3.5 hours) to hit that number and wanted the 15 miles, which actually amounted to 15.25 miles. I do this straight through. Pretty much first thing in the AM and don't eat anything till afterwards. Figure I makeup for my work days when I don't have time to deliberately exercise. Since I'm a nurse, I do get steps in but not usually 10,000. The nature of a Dialysis RN in a hospital.
Also finally got under the 180 lbs. 179.2 lbs today! Over 75 lbs now!7 -

November goal - lose 3 lbs
11/1 184
11/8 182 - I upped my daily walk, and I have seen the difference 1.5 miles makes a day...
11/15
11/22
11/29
Use true grit, dig deep and pray for the virtue of mortification!
My non-scale goals:
🦃 Walk 3 miles every single day - for a week it has been 3.5 miles daily, but I would like to plan for 3 (up from 2 miles daily last month!!)
🦃 Concentrate on food as nutrition or as medicine
🦃 Declutter kitchen/garage, I don't even care which at this point - things need to get sorted!!
🦃 Be patient! and remember that increments are where it is at - every little bit really does count
🦃 Be grateful and give thanks every single day, more than once a day!
🦃 Remember: Total loss of 95 lbs!! 52 lbs till goal weight of 130 lbs!! IF I stay on track by Christmas 2022, I would be goal weight!
@SammiGirl1321 Thank you so much for the super cute beautiful pictures!!
@goal06082021 “Motivation is the reward not the impetus” So true!!! Also, I am praying for your hubby. (((hugs)))
@jeepkat1 Onederland!!! Congratulations!! You are doing great!!
@Ladybug8882021 Wow, that is so beautiful!! Thank you for sharing, have a wonderful time with your daughter!
@swimmom_1 Grats!!! Wow, you are really going the distance!! So you did farther than a half-marathon which is 13.1 miles!! A full marathon is 26.2 miles!! Oh ho!! Winner winner chicken dinner, you have done a half marathon for a weekly workout!! Consider it, you may be a marathoner with a little more time!!! Imagine, you could have one of those oval stickers on your car that says 26.2 - that could be YOU!!!
6 -
@justanotherloser007
Yeah, didn't think about it being a half marathon, just the 15 compared to 10, 12, etc. There is no way I could do that outside. The thing about the elliptical is no pounding, jarring on my knee joints! Easier for me at least.
CONGRATULATIONS on hitting 95 lbs lost! 100 is just around the corner! I just hit 75+ and so looking forward to the Big 100!!!!3 -
Hubs made it through surgery OK, the surgeon is really pleased with how it went. They got all of it, with no damage to the nerves. He's pretty sore, which is to be expected; they gave him some long-acting super-strong painkillers that should get him through the first 72 hours. They're keeping him in ICU tonight for observation and will move him to a longer-term room tomorrow, and they're fitting him with a back brace as well. Hopefully he's released to come home by the weekend, but that will depend on him. Surgeon said he'll need the brace for 4-6 weeks, should take about 6-8 weeks to fully heal. I hope we're able to get him up the stairs and into our apartment - I know he'd prefer to be up here with me and the cats (and all his media entertainment options), rather than sleeping in his sister's childhood bedroom and having to call/text me or his parents to bring him food and stuff.10
-
@goal06082021
Glad to hear the good outcome. Make sure you ask for therapy to work with him before he leaves the hospital. They should work with him/you anyway. Let the PT know how many steps you have to get up to your apartment so they can work to that goal, prior to discharge.5 -
My doctor wanted me to ride a stationary bike several times a week to strengthen my torn Achilles. So, today I joined Silver Sneakers and the local YMCA (less than a mile away, so NO excuses!). I went this evening and did 35 minutes on the bicycle. Not earth shattering, but a good start after several years of NO workouts! Hard to believe that just 5 years ago I was working out 6 days a week for 60-90 minutes at the gym, THEN playing hockey and ice skating at least 4 other times each week. How did I let myself go SO badly???7

Just the short version today. Counting calories is working and I'm so thankful for that. My right knee is really bad, I will message my doctor tomorrow and see what he recommends. The Voltaren Gel is helping just not all that much. It's time to do something else.
I'm so happy, and I am inspired by many of you to keep on track. But mostly I don't want to cheat myself, I do feel like it at times, but I suck it up and don't do it. I'm seeing the rewards of reining myself in vs the quick give me comfort food fix.
@goal06082021 I'm so happy that your husbands surgery was successful and I'm hoping for a speedy recover time.5 -

Hi everyone! I'm just joining this thread today. I love reading through the posts and seeing everyone's goals and wins. Here's mine:
SW: 283
CW: 262
Current Goal: 250
I lost 75lbs about 3 years ago, then had a baby and gained it all back plus a few extra. Recently, I've decided I want to lose weight but I'm going about it differently. Last time I was a gym rat and tracked every calorie but look how well that turned out. This time I'm trying to be mindful of my eating (only eat when hungry) and making better food choices. Now that I have a toddler I think "would I want him eating this?" before eating junk and it helps a lot.
Wishing everyone good luck and a happy Wednesday!8 -
I had a win today!
Made chocolate chip cookies. Stayed out of the dough, and out of the cookies that didn't fall evenly into a dozen. I put the dozens into the freezer/up and away (part are for Son's work lunches, part are for the Thanksgiving cookie plate, part will be for work lunches next week) and the four that are left out are going to be had by the three of us (Girlfriend will get two) as a sensible part of our lunches.
I'm pretty proud of myself, as I've often said I can't resist my own baking.10 -

Goal for this month is to finally see 199. Anything beyond that is gravy!
My plan:
<90g net carbs daily
10,000 steps daily
Peloton 3x/week
Strength workout 3x/week
I’d been hovering around 206 for two weeks before I finally saw something lower just yesterday. It seems that 1 in the front of the number is playing hard to get! I will see it though! I’m so determined.
11/10: 200.8 My scale counts by 0.2, so only one more pound until I see that 1 in place of the 2!! EEK!

@goal06082021 I’m so glad things went well for your hubby! ❤️
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 I can’t resist my own baking either so I try to avoid baking now.🤣2 -
I avoided doing much if any baking for a year, but.... I miss it, and I don't want to go without it forever, so since I'm in maintenance for now (thanks, thyroid) I want to learn how to eat sensibly and include the occasional cranberry-orange muffin or chocolate chip cookie. It's still a work in progress.

@Making_Impossible_Possible 12.6 pounds! whoo! you're doing great!
@goal06082021 you're in inspiration. so glad the hub's surgery went well. So in awe at how well you stuck to your plan through such stress. YAY for pumpkin crushing!
@jazzadesigns yay for loss! It's all relative, isn't it? When you know that by rights you probably should have gone up, but you went down, even a tiny bit is worth celebrating. I remind myself "it's all relative" every time my number bounces. If it's not bouncing as high as last month, then I'm doing fine!
@lmgoff232 you're doing amazing. you just keep going, and look where you get!
@Wanderingin98198 68 pounds! that's fantastic! Go, you!
@JNettie73 always good to "see" you.
@drj63 we're here! We're in the same fight! And I think I can safely say, we're all cheering for you!
@Deanner03 wise words! I know I needed to read that too.
@patriciafoley1 I'm glad you'll stay with us! aside from being your awesome self, you are an inspiration!
@danikat15 great job sticking to your new habits! I'm sorry about your loss.
@justanotherloser007 you're doing awesome! Do remember that 95 pounds gone, because that's FANTASTIC.
@jeepkat1 you deserve to take care you yourself! I do that too--I get that little urge to cheat, no one will ever know--and I have to confront it. I will know. And my butt will know! And why would I want to sabotage myself anyway?
@swanjun right? How do I "discover" that exercise helps you lose weight about every other week?
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 that's really awesome, that you resisted. I wish you great luck in your efforts to bring baking back into your life in a way that works for you! My roommate (who does not have weight issues) loves to bake. I've felt bad the last month or so as I've realized that she's not baking because she doesn't want to undermine me. I never asked her to do that! Yesterday I told her that if she wants to bake, I can fit a few items into my calories and take the rest to work. She likes the idea of people she's never met praising her name. 😎
@Nicoles0305 WHOO! You're so close!
@swimmom_1 @holdthefries @kenziestabes @seltzer_lover hang in there! it's consistency that's going to get us through.
@barbarjojo @Cyncia85 @joanhamburger welcome! this is a great group.
I want to respond to people, because I know the more engaged I am (and probably a lot of you) the better I'll do. But I'm going to try to respond more often, because these postzillas are hard work!

i forgot to weigh in this morning because I was preoccupied with camping prep. My weight has been pretty stable this week but might go up while camping and wine tasting. Last weekend had a date night with the wife. We went to a winemaker’s dinner and enjoyed some delicious food and wine parings. I also very much enjoyed getting dressed up for the occasion.
This weekend will be much slower paced with camping, lots of fall walks and a few wine tastings.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

11/11/21-179.2 lbs again :-( Not worried though. Only 3 days and sticking to my plan. I haven't cheated, so it will drop. Did 210 minutes (3.5 hours) on my Elliptical again today. I'm moving faster because Tuesday it was 15.25 miles. Today it was 16 miles!
How kind and time consuming for you to go through and mention everybody.
I'm a baker too! I haven't baked in awhile and I miss it. But Thanksgiving and Christmas is coming so I will get back into it. I love also to give it away to friends who don't bake. And they love to get it! I'm hoping to figure out or find Keto friendly versions of my specialtys.
I had lots of labs drawn today that Dr is covering his bases with all the weight I've lost since he has seen me. Needed cholesterol levels done (for my new 6 month statin refill (and maybe won't need, but I have a bad family history though)) and mentioned my intentional weight loss to the secretary, so he ordered everything. I'm looking forward thiugh to see all the changes, chol, CBC, CMP, TSH and some levels I never had done before like B12, HA1c and haven't had my Vit D level in quite awhile.

I was slightly worried about today’s weigh day considering all the food I had yesterday. I try to stick to one heavier meal a day with the rest of the day being my protein shakes. We decided to have Chick-Fil-A chick—minis for breakfast(love those things). For dinner my husband said he wanted Mexican and we ordered California burritos. We moved from San Diego, California so our expectations were high. Needless to say we were pretty disappointed in the burrito. I had to use a fork and knife just to eat it and I accidentally bit down on the fork and now my tooth is sore! Absolutely ruined the meal for me and I didn’t finish. I already made a dentist appointment for Monday to make sure all is good. I don’t even want to eat anything now so that should help me lose weight lol. Other than that I’ve been working out a lot and taking comparison pictures from when I first started this journey. It’s all coming along!

I LOVE to bake. LOVE IT. Yesterday, I made cinnamon rolls, and promptly brought them to my husband/son at work so I didn't indulge. My house smelled amazing, but I couldn't rationalize eating so many calories for breakfast. I had a BITE of my husband's.

I saw 230 once this week, and I haven't been much ABOVE 231, so I'm hopeful I'm on the cusp of another whoosh. *tells self repeatedly "weight loss is not linear." *
Also I really need to find/make time for a bit more exercise. I'm leaning hard on the martyr thing lately ( "I have so much to do! Why do I have to do it all? WHY ME?" ) and I need to stop. Whining changes nothing, except making me less willing to tackle what needs to be done.
Last night I made An Amount of healthy food (I can eat the same meal every breakfast, a different meal every lunch, a third meal every dinner for a week, easy, without minding) so at least that's out of the way for a bit.
@sandielewis2001 that looks like so much fun! enjoy!
@swimmom_1 i need to do that too. I went and found the login for the lab to look at my last blood test info, because would you believe my doctor didn't even mention my continuing pre-diabetic-ness? I've had doctors tell me I was prediabetic, but NOT ONE thought to take the time to tell me what it meant. I had a cardiologist demand (after a procedure, when he'd HAD my med records beforehand!) "did you know you were prediabetic? You didn't tell me?" Dude. I didn't know you needed to know. YOU should know that you need to know--and you should have asked if you didn't see it right there in my record! I thought it was "hey, change course or you're going to get diabetes" (which I was trying to do!) not "this is actually already affecting your health and potential procedure outcomes."
Thinking about changing to a doctor who might actually talk to me, but change is hard.
Go, @danikat15 GO!!
@SammiGirl1321 you're doing great! You know this, but hold onto that feeling for when things aren't going so well.
@Deanner03 you're struggling, but take a moment to celebrate that victory! You may not be winning all the battles, but you sure won that one! (which was a mighty feat indeed, mmm, cinnamon rolls...)

Just checking in, but not weighing in since I don't have my scale with me in NYC.
Anyone know how to make the font smaller for discussions? There's only a few posts per page bc the font is so large and it's driving me crazy. I'm not digging the new look...bah.
Anyway! I've only been in NYC one day and boy do I have some catching up to do exercise-wise. The walking and the stairs are kicking my butt. I love how it always takes a week or so to "catch up" to the NYC way. I get so tired just walking and hauling stuff up the subway or to our walk-up apartment. We're only on the 3rd floor but I'm really feeling it after spending the last two months on the couch!
It's going to be a real balancing act if I want to leave here under my November starting weight, which is the goal. Yes I'm walking a lot, but I'm also eating SO many more calories. Which is fine for these first few days until we get some groceries in and I can start to cook and manage my meals better.
This month's motto:
I can have anything, but I don't need to have *everything*. Meaning, I will still have the bagels with cream cheese, or a good slice of pizza, or a fabulous croissant...but I don't NEED to have everything I want, every time I want it.
My main plan for the next week is to get back into logging and to meal prep.
Plans for November:
🍁 Keep my calories in the 1250-1350 range.
🍁 Keep monitoring hunger levels.
🍁 Keep my fiber intake up.
Daily Goals:
🍂 Log everything
🍂 Stay hopeful
🍂 Incorporate daily stretching back into my routine

@sargemarcori I get that it's frustrating to see a number you like on the scale, only to have it go back up resulting in a minor pattern of gaining/losing the same pound over and over. While I KNOW that weight loss isn't linear, I sure wish it were.2
-
My husband may be released to come home from the hospital tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
I feel like I did pretty well this week, mostly sticking to the food I cooked and making good choices the couple of times I didn't. My deficit may be a little smaller than I was intending but I am in a deficit nevertheless. I also certainly got my dang steps in, visiting him every day - the hospital is huge, I was more active this week even just by that metric than I've been for the last 12 months.
Tomorrow marks exactly one year since I decided to get serious about this. I've lost almost 50 lbs, and I have about another 50 more I think, maybe 60, before I think I'll be done. But I've never been below about 169 as an adult, so anything past that point (which, at my current pace, should be in another 6 months or so) is totally uncharted territory for me. My "UGW" of 144 is purely mathematical, about where I expect to be by the end of next year if I keep up my current pace; when I get there, I may decide I'm good and shift gears into maintenance, or I may decide to keep going for another 5-10 lbs. Or maybe I'll get to 150 and be happy with that. Who knows?7 -

I was in a pretty crappy mood all week. One of those weeks when everyone annoys you and you just want to be left alone, lol. And I just wanted to eat it all. Finally starting to feel myself come out of the funk today. I still don't want to see anyone, but at least I didn't wake up pissed off 😉 As I was typing this post, I remembered last time I had a lot of sugar a few days in a row I felt similar. And I ate a lot of sugar these last two weeks.💡Apparently sugar really affects my mental health.... Thankfully all my Halloween favorites are gone now! Time to de-sugar myself and get my head back in the game.
Goals for November:
- Add at least 1 day a week weight training❌
- Min 15 min cardio 5x per week: ❌ only made 4 days
- At least 8 glasses water daily❌ I may have made this one, but didn't track it so not 100% sure
- Be thoughtful with my intake at Thanksgiving. N/A. But I have been looking at some recipes that are healthier versions of my favorites. Going to make a mini test batch of some of them this week5 -

HNNNG. I'm like 2/3 of a pound away from being down exactly 50 since I started a year ago. (Also, apparently, my streak only goes back to 11/15, not 11/13; I guess I didn't log in on the 14th last year, or something.) Whatever, I'll take it. I'm extremely pleased to see a loss this week.
In other news, hubs is finally home from the hospital! We live on his parents' property - they have an enormous house, with detached 3-car garage, and that has a little one-bedroom "MIL suite" apartment above it. We live in the MIL suite. The bedrooms in the main house are all on the first floor, so we have him set up in one of those for right now, but the surgeon said he can try stairs whenever he feels ready. He also has someone coming to the house for PT/OT in the coming weeks, so he can work on that goal with them as well. Going up is of more immediate concern than going down - once he's up in the apartment he can just stay there until he's fully healed, plus anything he might want to see or do in the main house is on the second floor, anyway.6
