I know it has lots of fat in it, but other than that... is it bad for you? Does it have many nutrients or is it better not consuming it?

if you get the short cut bacon without the fat it should be fine, but yes chicken and turkey are better meat options.

If you're going to have it, I recommend getting uncured bacon, because it tends to have a LOT of sodium otherwise.

Don't sweat things because they contain fat. Try to avoid the trans fats and don't eat too many saturated fats. You certainly can lose weight and be healthy while having a good healthy amount of fat in your diet, too little is not healthy.

Yep those are some of the best along with olive oil, for sure. But if a person really loves bacon like many do, uncured bacon is about the best choice you can make, and as long you as don't over do it, it's fine. :smokin:
  • I get the Oscar Meyer Fully Cooked Bacon. 4 slices (microwave for 20-30 seconds) is just *70* calories, with 320 mg. sodium. And it comes out perfect every single time! And did I mention that it was delicious?
  • i like turkey bacon, not because its "healthier" but just because i like the way it tastes

any processed pork/meat product is particularly bad for you and has proven to be carcinogenic, and usually quite high sodium.

having said that, it does taste good,. and youve got to die of something.

It's not good for you, I don't eat it or let my children eat it. But everyone has unhealthy things sometimes.

Microwaving bacon? Doesnt that come out all soggy? I prefer crispy edges!

    NO! Bacon is LIFE!

Ok, maybe it's not the best thing for you, but it's tied with ice cream for most delicious. :-)

I do love bacon but I limit myself to having it once a month or so. It's a treat. Center cut is the best option (as far as real bacon goes). I don't care for turkey bacon as I find it a weak substitute- too dry and leathery for me.

She's talking about pre-cooked bacon. Bacon does actually come out fairly crispy in the microwave though.

    It's pound of bacon saturday!!!!

Just had to throw that in. No, bacon is not bad for you. Fat is not bad for you (and I'm not talking about the fat that IS bad for you, but bacon is not one of them). But I understand when people say that it is, cause that's what we've been taught as a society.

Eat bacon and lots of it, with eggs. You'll be a happier, healthier person

I love bacon, i get unsmoked back bacon, it's not too high in calories for meat and it gives loads of flavour to to food. I never considered bacon processed or any more processed that chicken breasts are.

I think the main problem is the nitrates and sodium levels. Most processed meat is high in nitrates and sodium. When I first lost a big chunk of weight I only either ate diced bacon with veg or turkey with veg. I lost many many pounds this way so in regards to weightloss, it worked for me.

Nothing causes more cancer than the interwebs.

Curing is basically drying a meat out with salt, so yes...uncured is better in that regard.

I don't know if you have one near you, but the best bacon I've ever had is the apple smoked uncured bacon from Trader Joe's - it's so good!

Uncured bacon is great! And the good fats fill me up more than the same amount of calories through grains which means fewer calories overall and in a form my body can metabolize better ; ).

I love bacon!! Lol! I eat it on occasion. And I actually read that TURKEY bacon has more sodium in it. So if I want bacon, I enjoy some of the real stuff...and go about my day.

I learned what "moderation" means. I hate that term because it's so cliche..but it IS true. I learned it doesn't have to be all or nothing. I want a BLT........I have it. I just don't eat it every day. When I take my boys out for breakfast..I often get an order of bacon and we split it. They eat plenty of whole grains, fruits and veggies too. I'm not too worried.
