Anyone on metformin? Did it help you be able to stay not hungry? Starting mine tomorrow and wondering if anyone has a story they would like to share and their experience

I imagine it would depend on the actual reason you're taking it for, as far as I know it's not prescribed as an appetite suppressant.2

I took it for over a year a couple of years ago. I never experienced it as an appetite suppressant. I ate a lot! All it did was give me really soft stools to the extent of it being almost diarrhea consistency. Sorry about the TMI. I stopped taking it because I had read it's bad for the liver and heart. I managed to bring my A1c down from 7.2 to 5.3 in 3 months by changing my diet without it.2

I have been on Metformin for Type 2 diabetes for a few years. It is not an appetite suppressant for me. I know they say that weight loss can be a side effect. The only way that it ever helped my weight loss is that if you over eat and eat a lot of sugary, or fatty foods, you pay the price in the bathroom. At one point I was given an excessive dose, and short drives were a gamble! I had the dose adjusted and never had an issue again. So basically, you may pay the price if you over eat. Also if you are having GI issues when you first start, that is normal. Give a couple of weeks for your body to adjust. Also, if you have one dose a day, ask your doctor if you can take it at bedtime. I did, and that helped during the adjustment period too.2

I've been taking metformin for a decade now and it's never worked as a appetite suppressor for me. I was put on a low does of Rybelsus along with my metformin and it has worked as a slight suppressor the rybelsus not metformin, but if you're an emotional eater like me you'll still eat even when suppressed. I've fought through that though to lose 50 pounds. You can do this with or without suppressors, if you're diabetic and overweight it's good to get the weight off that is why I take metformin and rybelsus not for weight loss but to control my diabetic numbers and losing weight will help some with lowering blood sugar numbers as well. And if you don't have a reason other than weight loss for taking metformin I'm not sure I'd be taking it. Talk with your doctor about this.1
