I am Dawn. My ongoing goal is 16-20 AF days per month. I was a daily drinker when I began on this thread in November of 2018.
Diary style is how I keep track.
Tuesday March 08 - AF - Working a split Wednesday, may have a couple of drinks after that...in the tub watching HGTV. We'll see.
Wednesday March 09 - 2 drinks. Planned AF for Thursday
Thursday March 10 - AF - Planned drinks over the weekend.
Friday March 11 - 2 drinks - Worked late, had a couple of nice drinks in the tub : - )
Saturday March 12 - Planning drinks. Spent a big chunk of the day doing paperwork, about to go and move 1/2 of the front porch, sweep, mop, clean furniture, put the curtains back up that the wind blew down. Planning a couple of drinks after that and some HGTV.
Rolling total: 8 AF days out of 12 days2 -
DH bought ONLY 1 bottle of wine to go with the supreme pizza bowl recipe (not crust) this evening. I was so happy to see him buy 1 not 6 bottles!!!
2 glasses of wine.
March accountability: 9 days AF
Alcohol: 3 days (6 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.4 -
THANK YOU MFP for getting rid of the disagree button.
I had always thought it was a terrible idea to have a button that would not be a supportive feature in a community where people need incouragement, not negativity.
😇🥰
Same.
Such a pointless feature, and I often saw it really set people off.
Remember that “woo” button? That confused me the most. I thought it meant “woo hoo! Awesome” and it turns out… it doesn’t! 😳4 -
Finally found my login for MFP! I hate that it makes me log in every month or so, and of course I never remember my password.
I was 3 days AF this past week! First day was HARD but days two and three were much easier. I had 3 wines Friday and Saturday though, and my sleep was terrible both nights. I plan to be AF until Tuesday, when I host book club. I have to finish cleaning the house! Amazing how having people over is the motivation to actually finish the job!6 -
Just checking in. Two weeks (14 days...started a day early) AF. I don't post much but I do read all your amazing posts!7

👋 hello back to ya @ahoy_m8. So was that one of the Lyres spirits that you made your drinks with? I see since September they have new flavors. YUM.
Tonight I did indulge in two rum and root beer cocktails. Getting all crazy and wild up here on the East Coast 🤣.
I bought it at the same time as I bought the Lyres, but it is a different brand.
https://www.ritualzeroproof.com/products/ritual-tequila-alternative
I read a couple "Best AF spirits" reviews before picking what to try. I got 2 Lyres ("Compari" & vermouth), Monday gin & Ritual tequila. DH thought I lost my mind.
I like the Monday gin a lot, but it gets lost with mixers. I'm not a G&T drinker normally, but I think that is the best use for Monday gin. The Lyres are good together (like an Americano) and individually with soda as spritzes. I tried it as an AF Nigroni, and it actually is a pretty convincing Compari Nigroni stand in. (I know it is verboten, but I like a Cynar Nigroni much more than a Compari Nigroni.) Have not yet tried mixing AF/A versions in same cocktail. Maybe I'll do a little tinkering tonight. Don't know if I will re-buy any of it, but I have to give the creators credit for very inventive interesting products.5 -
Hello, everyone. It’s good to see you all again. It looks like we are all having success in our own little ways.
I had my vacation at the end of last month. We took a cruise and, as expected, I did drink more than I would at home, but not as much as I would have on vacations past. I definitely did *not* “get my money’s worth” on the drink package, I’m happy to say! It felt great to wake up each morning with no hangover.
Since my vacation ended, I have gone back to “drinking less” without any issue, however, I haven’t logged a single AF day this month. I am starting to feel like my brain is one of those puzzles where solving one riddle knocks another out of alignment. Know what I mean? I used to over-indulge. Then I abstained for weeks on end. Now I can moderate, but abstinence escapes me. I don’t even get cravings anymore, but every time I think “no wine tonight” I feel rebellious and resentful. I’m not sure what that is about.7 -
Hello to everyone, we are back from our little getaway. I did drink more than planned and payed the price. Either that or i caught a bug of some kind. You know chills, hot, sweaty, no appetite. I ether have a bug or a hang over that lasts days.
We got home about noon and I went straight to bed and have been there ever since.
BUT we saw some wonderful wine glasses that @MissMay had to fallen in love with. I may have found another outlet to try a sell a painting or two with a local high end furniture store that features local artist the first friday of each month. I told her I doubt I would drive down 2.5(150 miles interstate driving) hours on a Friday night to hang for a few hours with the locals.
Anyway back to alcohol free tonight and every night until I can at least figure out how to eat some food LOL. That has never been a problem
I am off for now, I did read the posts but just not feeling up to responding yet

March accountability: 10 days AF
Alcohol: 3 days (6 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
DH gave up alcohol for Lent and asked I support him. 6 weeks! He is skeptical that he can do it but I'm all in with him ... and said I would make the same commitment.
3/1 - 3 wine Mardi Gras / Fat Tuesday
3/2 - AF Beginning of Lent
3/3 - AF
3/4 - AF
3/5 - 1 wine w/ dinner before baseball game
3/6 - AF
3/7 - AF
3/8 - AF
3/9 - AF
3/10 - AF
3/11 - AF
3/12 - 2 wine (DH only bought 1 bottle!)
3/13 - AF
Funny conversation with DH. He asked if I wanted any wine. I basically told him if he was having it then I would have a glass or 2 but not more. I'm not going to be the one to suggest wine ... because I'm supporting him in his goal through lent. I'm perfectly happy not having any alcohol each evening. We talked about how I could have wine at bookclub when not with him but that I've learned that those evenings were my break usually from all the wine at home and that I've started not drinking when I'm out without him. I told him how rough February was with the wine most nights and not making my 12 AF days for the month. He said he was obviously the instigator. Ding Ding Ding ... I heard the bells go off in his head. He is really trying and I'm happy that he is!
AF evening!
BTW - He is waking up with a headache and dizziness in the mornings when we don't drink anything. But he is doing good ... drinking lots of diet cokes though. Another habit but not one to address right now.
Almost to my 12 AF days for the month and we are not even half way through it yet!5 -
@Lilylady3k
Quite the journey for your DH.
Sorry that he is having a headache and dizziness in the mornings, either from alcohol withdrawal or the aspartame/caffeine in the diet cokes. Either way, it seems like a wake up call for him about how alcohol was affecting his life and affecting you with your weight loss journey and desire to drink less. This step away from the nightly wine ritual seems to be opening new thoughts about where you both were at in your relationship to alcohol.
More lent weeks to go still. Congrats to you both!

It was a beautiful day yesterday, things have been really melting here.
I was very surprised to see people on the much melted ice with a kid in a sleigh!!
Lots of water on the top of the lake

I’m annoyed with myself, 5AF/8A ☹️ But I’ll try not to beat myself up to much, bc that doesn’t help. I know I’ll have drinks 2-3xthis week during planned events. March is an active social month for me, and I know this, I need to stop comparing it to last months numbers. Ok, enough of my babbling 🙃 Have a great day & week everyone!🙋🏻♀️7

Another single bottle of wine purchased when DH ran to the grocery store for a forgotten item I needed for dinner ... still not stock piling them nor drinking 2 bottles plus bourbon in the evenings. I will try to get back to more AF days this week but for now I'm going with the flow. HOWEVER I have my limit of 2 glasses of wine.

@dawnbgethealthy - That is scary seeing people on the lake as it thaws!3

Good evening to all
AF tonight and last night.
After this weekends over indulgence, I am ok being AF for awhile. However when you have a slight bug, coupled with what I can now identify as a hangover (it had been so many years since i had one-teenager really) I guess my cutting back this past year from a daily black out drinker to just a few during the week, then going overboard this weekend. Well lesson learned and 4lb gone from lack of food.
I don't recommend the diet.
@Lilylady3k I am so proud of you for the support you are showing your DH + the fact that the light bulb went off for him!....Well played and the pie looks amazing
@dawnbgethealthy , is it normal for folks to be on the lake like that?? Isn't that dangerous?

Thanks for the photos! I’ve been hoping you would post some. We had our last freeze this weekend. 77F today4

@Lilylady3k that pie looks amazing. Totally went right over my head that today is Pi day!
I wanted wine tonight, but once I had my dinner the feeling passed. One sip of my husbands drink doesn’t count! Haha! Had some mimosas at brunch yesterday, but that was it.
Hosting book club tomorrow, and am nowhere near ready! Eeek! I’m definitely planning on a glass tomorrow night!4 -

Is there a Lyre's with bourbon flavor? I am craving bourbon on vanilla gelato. Where is this coming from? Crazy because it's only 5 a.m. This is what happens when I cut calories.
@Lilylady3k and @tmbg1 you're both racking up AF days left and right! Keep going strong...you are motivating me .
I've been quiet and low-key over here. Staying AF, keeping up with daily exercise and watching what I eat. My stress I don't seem to feel compared to last month and I am not sure why. Not drinking must alter perception, I guess. Spring weather helps!
Today's day starts with egg whites, 1 hr. exercise bike watching travel videos, 15 min. stretching.5 -
@Lilylady3k I could taste your lime pie from here! I think your photo gave me the munchies!!
@dawnbgethealthy your pictures look like it's still cold...brrr...!4 -

Hello to all
AF last night, 10AF days out of 14 days. I will most likely be AF the rest of this week. Today is a rather boring day.
Has anyone had success roasting frozen veggies? Just curious. I have seen if I use a little oil, seasoning and a hot oven that would work. I am skeptical since frozen=added water molecules.4 -
Catching up......
Had my head stuck in paper work getting tax stuff ready to send out to my accountant for the past week. On top of the 31 day art challenge, on top of my 90 day fitness obligation, on top of eating well and drinking LESS.
My husband had an idea for a not to far overnight get a way. Which sounded nice right about now. He's paying 60 more dollars at a hotel to have the convenience to be able to walk to all the bars. He has hopes to do a pub crawl for St. Pattys. I told him no need to pay extra, because I am the car driver and I won't be doing any crawling anywhere.
So that now puts me in his category as old, no fun, stick in the mud, etc. I went to school for early childhood developement, and his reaction to me being responsible (while he lays on the floor kicking his feet) reminds me of teaching preschool back in the learly 80's.
This too will pass. Will update after we return Thursday night. Luck of the Irish is on my side☘

Tuesday March 15 - AF - The ides of March. I was low energy all day. The masks came off here on Friday, now my mouth area is chapped and stuff. Glad to have the mask off, except I feel like putting it on to cover what has happened to my lips since taking it off. Working a split Wednesday, I might have a couple of drinks afterward, we'll see.
