how to enter foods

Hi guys, I'm trying to keep a food and fitness diary. When I select food diary here, then select on the meal where I want to add food, apparently there is no option except to search for it from the site? Is there no way I can just add the name of the meal I ate? I don't care about getting a calorie calculation every time, I have a general idea of the calories of things. I just want to be able to keep the food diary.

I can think of a few workarounds to achieve what I think you want but, honestly, they would be far more hassle than simply searching the database and picking a random entry that is the closest match to what you ate. If you’re not interested in the calories then you could just enter 0 servings.
The workarounds would involve using the Recipe Builder function and creating a recipe each time, naming it according to what you want - again you could just put a single item in your recipe and make it 0 calories. The other workaround is using the Meals function - I’ve never really understood how that works but I’m sure you could, again, just put an ingredient in there and set it to 0 servings.
It’s a calorie counting website/app - if you just want a record of your meals and exercise have you considered something as simple as an Excel spreadsheet?0 -
Is this just for you, or for e.g. medical means? Are you doing an elimination diet to find out allergies? If so then just writing chili con carne might not be enough as you/medical professional doesn't know what goes into it.0

As @BarbaraHelen2013 pointed out, this is a calorie counting site. Other than just ignoring the numbers, for what I'm understanding you're wanting I'd consider just making a calendar in Word and noting everything there.0

You could just add it to food notes at the bottom of the daily diary page. I’m puzzled what you’d get out of the whole process, but hey, if it works for you….!!!!

If you're using the app; you can achieve this as per the below:
Open MyFitness Pal (I know, duh! But this is just so you're in the right location)
Bottom right corner "...More"
8th Option Down "My Meals, Recipes and Foods"
2nd Header "Meals"
"Create a Meal"
Add a title i.e. "Jacket Potato and Salad"
You'll have to add at least one food item to the ingredients but this is the only work around.0 -
There are other apps that log just a picture of the meal. Or, just using the notes function if your phone for that…0
