How do you remove a food from a meal in Android?

In Android, to remove a food from the diary, you press and hold on it to get a menu with a "Delete Entry" item. I don't see any way to remove an item from a meal. Neither holding nor swiping work. Does anyone know how to do this?

Well that's needlessly rude. The chimpanzees on our dev team would be very offended by this.
To edit a meal, first add it to your diary. Then, in that diary entry, make any changes to the meal that you'd like - for example, changing a portion size, and deleting or adding food items. Finally, follow the steps for remembering a meal, but select the "Replace an Existing Meal" option. Choose the meal name you wish to overwrite, and that meal will be replaced with the meal you just edited.

I can’t find any way to delete a food in a meal other than to go to a blank meal in your diary and add it. Then delete the food and save it back to the meal with the exact name. Then delete the meal from your diary.
The lack of simple editing in the app is just so stupid. Their programmers must be monkeys at the keyboard.1
