    Hi Shelley 👋🏼
Welcome. I'm still kind of new ish. As for results, I think it's different for everyone. But usually you do see some results within the first week (I have!) or month, just be happy with any little victory. They all add up🐣

Hi, Shelley! It varies: If someone starts new exercise, that can add some water retention (for muscle repair) and hide reasonable fat loss on the scale for several weeks. Also, for adult women not yet in menopause, there can be perfectly normal, healthy hormone-related water weight changes that hide fat loss on the scale temporarily. (A few women only see a new low weight once a month. That's not the most common pattern, but it's hard to know if it's your personal pattern until you've been through at least one full menstrual cycle.)

These things are among the challenges of getting started. You may be doing everything right, fat loss may be happening . . . and it may not show up on the scale for a month, even. Patience can be a superpower, for long-term success!

@AnnPT77 Thankyou so much for sharing the above information. I turned 50 this year and have been on the flipside of menopause for about 5 years.
I've always walked regularly and practiced yoga, but I've had a lull over the past 3 years due to a death in the family as well as the impact of Covid lockins.
I've been back on the food and fitness wagon for about 6 months and have noticed that while I feel better and certain clothes seem to fit better... The scales just don't seem to be budging. Your explanation re: water retention and allowing time for fat loss to show on scales had been helpful. 👍

I'm long in menopause myself (age 66, chemo-induced menopause in my mid-40s). Water weight fluctuations can still be confusing - bodies are weird. One of the reasons I like daily weighing - which doesn't suit everyone! - is that it's helped me, over the long haul, to understand my most-probable personal patterns under varied circumstances. YMMV.

There's also a thread about it here, where people share some of their personal experiences:
