1,700

Options
Ok, so the my diet tracker app is saying I need 1,700 calories a day. This seems insaine I eat anything I want and than some but I'm never able to get to 1,700 calories. I feel good and look good I would like to gain perhaps 10lbs but no real reason to change my ways. Do I really need 1,700 calories for good health or is this just a reflection of the US super size me culture?

Everyone has different calorie goals... 1700 is not that crazy tbh. I personally lose on 1975 calories and maintain on 2500ish.

What did you put in the settings when setting up MFP? Maintain? Gain .5 lbs per week? 1 lb per week?

I am 5' 4" and I would lose on 1700 as my maintenance calories are around 1840

That picture doesn't address GAINING weight, only setting a reasonable deficit for losing. The OP states wanting to gain.

Your calorie needs are based on your stats, activity, and goal. Why would anyone ever connect a calorie goal with culture?

I upped my calories some and I am doing fine with it not gaining too much weight actually getting lean so far. I'm probably close to 2,000 cals a day now. Protein is still iffy but I am now going for about 100 grams a day and seeing major improvements

Good news! Congratulations on the improvements, and thanks for coming back to update. It's always interesting, and I think useful to the community, to know how things turned out.
