Co-workers make me angry!!!

Let me first start off by saying my start weight was 135 and my goal weight is 110. I have lost 12 pounds in six weeks. Okay now that is out of the way!
I have three co-workers who really piss me off! Two of them are obese and constantly complain every single day about their weight. (sometimes even cry) yet every single day they come into work with mcdonalds and various nasty junk food. They buy every weight loss scam/pill/supplement. and then they talk about how diet and excersize doesn't work. This really really annoys and discourages me in my own efforts. At first I tried to help them out with MFP or a workout schedule... But their efforts only last a few days. I am so tired of them being so negative because it's really a matter of their own self control. Now, it wouldn't be so bad if that was all I had to deal with.
It seems like because they have no idea how to lose weight themselves they judge me and my decisions on diet. I had a slice of cheese pizza for lunch and they all commented on how horrible that is for me. "I thought you were supposed to be on a diet?" or "really you're eating that for lunch?"*shaming looks* even though I mention I'm consistently stay below or at my calorie goal they treat me like a complete idiot when I eat something they deem "unhealthy".
I ate a cookie last week which was 150 calories. I was upset with myself because I brought a banana and for two chocolatey bites I could have eaten a large filling banana.I said "man I shouldn't have eaten that." I got comments like "oh shut up Rain, it's just a cookie. "

Go the sweet, so-stinkingly nice route that they'll hopefully leave you alone. "Thanks Ms. Co-worker for watching my eating so closely. If it wasn't for your diligence I couldn't have lost the 12 pounds I already lost! You are wonderful! Would you like me to do the same for you? We can be diet buddies!"0 -
yep..my bf does...complains about being fat and eats mcdonals TWICE a day and doesnt understand that i NEED to go to the gym and dont want that king size candy bar he just bought me0

I work with some people like that, that can not keep their comments to their selves and it is just pure stupidity that flows from their mouths! They always say things like you need to give your body what it needs, you can't eat all those fruits and veggies and egg whites all the time your body needs stuff it is used too. I say well the stuff my body WAS used to like Mcdonald's and junk food is not healthy for me and is why I am now overweight! I just want to yell "shut the hell up"! So, do not worry you are not a lone, do what you know is right for you and your body!0

Wow that is so stupid and frustrating. I'd throw it back to em next time they bring in something "unhealthy". I feel like this. If I bring a cookie to work first of all you don't know what kind it is (could be a Kashi or homemade made w/applesauce) and second of all I could have "budgeted" my calories to eat it so get off me hoe!!
Next time they say something just say "trust me I'm fine I've already burned xxx calories today" or "don't worry I'll burn it off when I work out later".0 -
I'm sorry! That would get so annoying!
Tbh, I don't really talk to a lot of people about my efforts. I do know people who I think would act this way, so I don't share that part of my life with them much, kwim? I don't need their support, and they aren't going to offer it anyway. I do get comment that I find pretty eye roll- worthy, but I know the truth, so I have to just let those run off my back,kwim? I'm sure hats easier said than done with people you work with though!

Worry about and focus on yourself.
For years I have listened to a variety of people try and tell me how to be thinner, smarter, better, etc.
The reality is that only my efforts will bring about any changes in my life. For those who offer support, thanks. For those who have only negativity to pass around, sorry, I cannot hear you!

I don't really let other people's lifestyles get to me. You can't save them all, especially the ones that don't want saving. Some people just would rather have something to ***** about, and that's their thing not mine. I encourage, stopped preaching, and just live my life and hope maybe some of it rubs off. I don't fret over 150 c cookie every once in a while (but occassionally do fret about an explosive weekend), and I think that makes a big difference. I've don't really have people look at my food unapprovingly, and on the occiassion that someone has something to say about what I'm eating I reply "skinny girls don't eat salad." It's hard for people who aren't living it to understand that this isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle, which means that everything fits into it in moderation . . . even the fatty salad dressing they're heaping on their "healthy" salads.0

understand 100% but what they dont understand is how bodies work. like you said, they only know scams, pills, quick fixes...see we and most of people here on mfp can eat a cookie, or a slice of pizza, but it's not over board, we know what we are putting into our bodies and what it takes to burn it off, or not. You have a power honey, of knowing how the body works, them they only know the menu to mcdonalds, let them be. If you want to get snippy when they do, just say, well, yea i am eating a cookie, the difference is i'll eat only one, not half a box...cheer up girl!!! and also cheers to you on trying to help them, but hey they will get their wake up call one day and look back and think of you...0

I find it best not to tell people I"m trying to lose weight. This way they can't judge. I've lost 15 lbs so far and I get lots of compliments on how good I look, but no one would say anything to me about what I eat b/c clearly what I'm doing is working for me. As far as their complaining about their own weight and eating habits...resist the urge to smack them upside the head....there's nothing you can do about it. Some people find it easier to complain than to put in the work and get results.0

Congrats on your weightloss and for making your health your priority! Your co-workers are probably not capable of supporting you or celebrating your successes. You really can't help people when they don't want it, and the issue your co-workers have with their own weight and your weight is just that: THEIR issues. I think you've stumbled onto a taboo topic with your co-workers and it's probably best that when it comes to eating/dieting/splurges you find more supportive, confident people to talk over those issues with...like us!0

You just need to find your way of cooping with it. This is just another part of your weightloss journey that you need the learn how to handle. You need to build up the strenght and courage to not only ignore them but also confront them. You doing this makes them feel weak and thats why they pick on you, dont give them the satisfaction of allowing them to break your state!0

Congratulations! But also, don't get so down on yourself about enjoying a cookie now and then. If you make the healthier choice MOST of the time, you should be able to have a treat without feeling guilty. And in respect to calories and sugar, Bananas are the highest sugar content fruits (thats why the serving size for a banana is 1/2 medium banana). But of course, they do come with more nutrients than the cookie. But as long as you stayed within your goal, don't worry about it...enjoy...keep up the good work...and let them keep eating big macs with diet cokes and see how it works out for them...0 -
I wouldn't give it another thought.. obviously, they know nothing on the topic considering their current state. So I would just smile and say "Thanks for your insight" and continue to go on like you are. You have figured out the key to being healthier and losing weight.0

I have dealt with this almost exact same scenerio at my work...coupled with people bringing in sweets and junk food (it stares at me, I swear it!) It sounds like we are on a similar journey (I started at 130...am currently at 116 and my goal is to be at 105). What I did differently is I have made a concious effort to NOT talk to people about my life-changing journey. If someone asks me, I am more than happy to share...but I think us doing so well only makes people realize that they too need to make some pretty serious life changes and it makes them frustrated and they in turn lash out at those that are having ongoing success.
Keep at it! Nothing will feel as good as looking (and feeling) your personal best....don't let their negativity get you down!0 -
YES! So I work in a very small office with only 2 other girls and our boss. The one lady is older and LARGE but she does not seem to care about losing weight so whatever with her but the other girl is about 100 lbs overweight. So ever since I have started on my weight loss track she has been straggleing behind. I will grab a salad from chick fil a for lunch (Grilled chicken, no croutons, and I bring my own light dressing and put a dab on the plate and dip my fork in it.) she will get a fried chicken salad put 2 bags of croutons on it and the WHOLE packet of ranch dressing, then she will say something to our boss when he asks whats for lunch like "we are having salads because we are trying to lose weight"!!! Then we both joined the gym across the street from our office (well I did about 2weeks before her) but anyway I go at lunch and she has started going with me. I started out walking but now I run some days for 20 min then do 20 on the eliptical somedays the whole 40min I run/walk basically I SWEAT. Anyway she will walk on the treadmill at about 2mph for 10 min then walk around the gym looking at things. She says she does not like to sweat (even though we shower before returning to work) now she is only in her early 30s and weighs about 250 and is 5'8" so she is overweight but not like so overweight she should have a hard time working out she also has no injuries and believe me with as much as she loves attention and talking about herself we would know if she did. I guess what bugs me about all this is I am busting my *kitten* and eating clean 90% of the time. She is being lazy and not eating healthy and still tells eveyone that her and I are "workout buddies / diet buddies" and she complains all the time about how she is not losing weight and that "we" must be doind something wrong. I just want to yell "um not WE I have lost 17lbs sweetheart!) I wish she would either jump on or off because its getting old.0

Next time they comment on the slice of pizza or whatever your eating just tell them that you due to your exercise regime, a slice of pizza on occasion is not going to hurt anything whatso ever then look at them, smile and walk away if you can.0

I have a little bit of a dark side, which would probably respond to such co-workers by saying something like: "Just think. Once those Big Macs kill you, you won't have to worry about what *I'm* eating."
The healthier route would probably be to just thank them for their concern, assure them that moderation is being employed, and wish them well with their own weight loss efforts.0 -
being a bigger person as I am I relate to what they go through..
For someone who loves food as much as I do its hard to take away what I love and enjoy. But I work at it.
Its so easy to fall back into old routine then to try to fight off what it is that you crave the most. They may just need some encouragement to help them stay focused.
its frustrating because you want the weight to come off more than anything but life gets in the way.
I can't imagine you being only 135lbs can even begin to understand what a person that weights over 200lbs feels like when people look at them. Its easy to judge them when they complain about it but if only you really understood the difficulies it takes to begin a life changing routine.
Please don't patronize me! I was a competitive gymnast for a very long time. When I quit and went through a lot of hardships I started self medicating with food. I gained thirty pounds. I struggled with junk food... I started eating when bored. The difference I think is accountability. I know I put myself in this situation and I have no one to blame but myself. That being said I am POSITIVE about wanting to change and wanting to do it for myself.
To all the other posters thanks for your support. I will try and focus on myself and tune out the negative!0 -
No not quite the same problem... but I have co-workers and friends who keep telling me I am to skinny and I should stop losing weight.... Or when I talk about how I shouldn't have eaten some thing they say "For you it doesn't matter... you are good, you don't have to watch what you eat any more" or "you could stand to gain a few pounds" What they don't seam to get is it's not just a temporary "diet"... this is a life style change... if I just forget about watching what I eat and stop working out I will go straight back up to where I was.
I am roughly 5 feet 4" tall and when I started working out and changing my diet back in May 2010 I was between 155lb and 160lb I am now between 125lb and 130lb. My goal weight is to be between 120lb and 125lb... From what I have read this is a slow and healthy weight loss and a healthy weight for me to be. I just try to tune them out and keep doing what I am doing. There are some who have thanked me though for talking about health and weight loss as it has motivated them to start going to the gym again etc...0 -

Scew them! Let them wallow in their own self misery. Nothing more annoying then somone with an extreme weight problem talkin **** to you about what you choose to eat0
