Got serious in November when I was told I'm in diabetic range on top of my other health issues.
Have resolved diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and put AFIB into remission since that time.
Training focus is now on cardio, I have run distances of up to 10K and recently resumed powerlifting (this time without the AFIB)

For me two things happened.
The first is I was diagnosed now with diabetes, being a former nurse, I literally could see what a terrifying future I had ahead of me while I aged and something in me just said this is enough.
The other thing I did was built myself an accountability loop where I would simply measure rather then set goals. My promise to myself was this, the only way I fail is if I fail to honest and accurately log my food each day and weigh myself each morning.
I bought a food scale I still use it.
I have gone over calories many many times but always logged it anyway. And weighed each morning. Just logged and moved on.
I found this made me a lot more mindful. All other changes flowed naturally from there.
If I go off the rails a few days I continue to log food and weigh myself honestly. I have done that for over 200 days straight now. It really changes how you approach your diet mentally.29 -
Congratulations!!! You look at least 15 years younger!

This makes sense to me. If I track calories to stay under goal i struggle because I feel restricted i think. Whenever I've just measured then added up at the end of the day I'm often well under goal and always surprised. I like your post thank you am going to try the measure only method4

This is awesome. I'm hoping to replicate your success. I'm currently halfway through my own quest of losing 110 pounds at 56 lost so far. Keep it up!9

I use the mental memory trick of HACC
Honestly Accurately Count Calories
And weigh each morning and log that too.
There is no failure except a failure to log, takes a lot of pressure off and builds mindful habits instead.
For example something I do is I look up menu before I go to a restuarant and log my food at home first, then I go and order the same thing when at the table.
Removes the stress and temptation Id normally feel as by logging it I sort of already committed to it and it would be a bigger pain to remove and relog other choices anyway.
