Logging food properly

Does it matter if I juice all the fresh fruit and veggies I’m logging? Does that change calories or anything? I’ve been just logging the items individually

There might be a few calories you're discarding with the pulp, when juicing.
The bigger deal is the loss of the fiber, when fiber is good for a person.
You're also probably increasing the glycemic index of the fruit somewhat, if that matters to you.2 -
Ah thanks for the swift reply!
Great to know it’s less calories.
I’ve been adding a protein / fiber powder to my juices.
Is the glycemic index something I should be worried about?
Thanks,
Christopher0 -

I'm fascinated as to why you would juice it and remove the fibre, then add it back in with a powder.
Wouldn't it be easier just to eat it as it is?
Of course its personal preference but you might find it makes a difference as to how sated you feel.
For example, I can eat an apple as a snack and that will happily fill a hole for several hours, whereas if I drink a glass of apple juice I'll still be hungry - as I still havn't had any actual food.4 -
Wait. So, you're juicing your fruit/vegetables then adding a fiber powder?
Why don't you just eat them whole or blend them into a smoothie - fiber naturally without paying extra!2 -
I used to juice. Didn't like throwing out all the pulp. Also gave me a headache, presumably from too high a glycemic index (I was not adding protein powder or fat sources then.)
Now I make smoothies in the food processor. I am using different ingredients though - no more carrots.0 -

Only you know whether you should be concerned about glycemic index: It may affect blood sugar levels. It may affect appetite.
Let me be more explicit about what I think: You're taking useful nutrients out of your fruits, then adding some (fiber) back in with an extra-cost supplement. I don't understand that.
Sure, there might be fewer calories in juice vs. fruit, but not very many fewer . . . and having things be a tiny bit lower calories, but meaningfully less nutritious, doesn't seem like a good trade-off to me. In effect, the juice is more calorie-dense, because you removed a lot of volume of the fruit.
There's a segment of the health/fitness marketing machine that trumpets juicing as the best thing ever for health. (Many of them are selling something related, like books, videos, diet plans, supplements, etc. Funny about that, eh?)
Remarkably few well-credentialed registered dietitians - y'know, the people with years of formal education, degrees, experience - are gung-ho for juicing. Many will suggest minimizing juice intake, because it leaves out some of the nutrients, and tends to be less sating while still quite high in calories compared to alternative choices of similar nutritional value. Most RDs will be telling you to eat the whole fruit.
So, I'd suggest eating the whole fruit, or, if you like drinking your food, making smoothies with the whole fruit so you get the fiber and other goodness.1 -
Thanks for all the replies!
It was mainly because the blender I used had a lot of pulp/thickness I suppose and it was tough to drink!
The juice and adding fiber thing makes sense! I should probably stick to maybe making smoothies.
It was mainly someone’s suggestion to just juice but after reading comments here I should definitely do some research.
It’s been tough just drinking my meals in juice form everyday for weeks now!2 -

Any particular reason you're making things tough for yourself? Liquid diet prescribed by a doctor? Otherwise, I'd simply suggest not drinking your meals in liquid form, if you find it tough and you have no particular need to do so...

if you are doing this for a specific reason - you have your jaw wired after fracturing it or something - then heavens above! - start eating real food!
I get that some people like juice and/or smoothies and making their own versions of these - nothing wrong with that - but as part of your intake, not your entire intake (unless actual medical reason)0 -

Drinking all my meals was tough for me when it was a medically necessary option when I literally could not digest food (gastroparesis). I can’t imagine how hard it would be to just randomly do on purpose!

Just noticed my post above doesn't really make sense - It is suppossed to say "Unless you are doing this for a specific reason......" not "If you are "0
