80lbs to lose in Scotland, normally crash diets but not this

Hi, I'm new to fitness pal (nearing the end of my second week using the iphone app) but I'm in no way new to dieting - but I never manage to keep it off. I turn 30 this year and have to stop the yo-yoing! Normally I crash diet so see quick results - but then I go back up just as quick and end up putting on more. So this time I'm doing it properly in an attempt to change for good, but I could really do with adding some friends to help me stay motivated, I'm worried that with slower weight loss I might not manage to stick to it! Any one in the same position?
