Popcorn Ideas

Options
Hi everyone

I have just purchased a popcorn machine and I'm loving it, I'd read a lot about the use of popcorn as a great snack and making it myself takes away a lot of the unhealthy gunk that is usually put in it.

That said, I am looking for ideas as to flavourings or ideas as to ways to give it a bit more taste. At the moment I'm just using a sprinkling of Candarel but love to get some more ideas, both sweet and savoury??

Anyone?

absolute favorite on plain popped corn in chalula hot sauce...but thats if you like spicy! Or a 1/2 tsp of garlic powder mixed with a couple sprays of spray butter is soooo good!

wasabi powder!! or curry powder, if you like spicy. if you are in the mood for sweet, cinnamon sugar (more cinnamon than sugar). heck, experiment! Popcorn is still cheap :)

Some great ideas everyone, many thanks.

When you suggest things like chilli powder, is that just sprinkled on dry or do I need any liquid to make it stick?

I actually have a popcorn cookbook LOL

    "nice sugar and spice"

    4 quarts popcorn popped
    1 vanilla bean
    2tsp sugar
    1tsp ground cinnamon
    1/4tsp nutmeg
    1/4tsp salt
    1T canola oil
    1/4tsp vanilla extract

    Popcorn in a bag...
slice the bean and put the seeds in the bag....
    stir spices + salt in
whisk vanilla and oil, and drizzle over, then shake!

    "wasabi and ginger popcorn"

    4 quarts popcorn popped
    1/2tsp salt
    1/2tsp sugar
    1T black sesame seeds
    3T melted butter
    2tsps wasabi paste
    1/4c candied ginger, finely chopped
    1/2c wasabi flavored dried peas

combine sugar, salt, and seeds. in another bowl whisk butter and paste until totally combined. stir in the ginger/ peas.
in a bag, drizzle butter mix over popcorn. shake. Sprinkle seasonings over. re shake.

    "lemon pepper popcorn"

    4 quarts popped popcorn
    1/2Tb lemon zest
    2tsp finely ground black pepper
    1/4tsp salt
    2tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice
    2T olive oil

whisk lemon juice and oil. in separate bowl combine zest pepper and salt.
put popcorn in bag, drizzle lemon juice mix over, and shake. sprinkle seasonings and re shake.

There's a billion more, but a lot of typing LOL

If it's hot air popcorn - you definitely need a little moisture. I typically use butter (honey is good for cinnamon) - but you don't need a lot.

If it's oil popped corn, the spices will stick pretty well.
